The After The Rain

The After The Rain
Brand New Day's

Kinara awoke when the dawn of the Adhan reverberated. With her eyes half closed, she got off the bed and walked out of the room to head to the bathroom.

In the dark, he sees Papa asleep again on the living room couch. Last night, Papa didn't really sleep together in his room. After Kinara closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, Papa covered the room with a grimacing path. At first, Kinara thought Papa would return to the room to sleep with Mama. He never thought he would find Papa sleeping on the couch again.

Kinara briefly covered Papa, only to check on his father's condition. After making sure there was nothing strange and Papa seemed to be soundly asleep, Kinara continued her steps towards the bathroom.

The water flowing from the tap managed to channel the refreshing cold when the grains reached the surface of the Kinara skin. She solemnly washed from the face to the tips of her toes and recited the prayer before walking out and returning to the room.

Mukena who was draped behind the bedroom door was immediately taken and worn. At dawn, Kinara faced God the owner of life with a feeling much lighter than before.

After praying, as usual, Kinara took the time to read some holy verses of the Qur'an. Although not as fluent as the santri and santriwati who live in the cottage, but Kinara can still recite each reading well and correctly.

Afterwards, Kinara closed the Qur'an and put it back in the nightstand drawer. Mukena was removed and placed back in place and Kinara walked slowly to her study table.

Kinara sat on a chair, turned on the study light and opened her laptop to check her college schedule for the next week. Then, in the midst of his activities, Kinara again remembered the cafe targetnya who until now has not given news. Kinara was hung, just like a clothesline.

But Kinara didn't want to be so bad. The young man he met at the cafe said he would be contacted if the owner had returned, then Kinara will think that the owner is still struggling with his other activities so that he has not had time to visit his cafe.

Check the lecture schedule already, instill positive thoughts as well already. Now is the time for Kinara to start her day off with something useful.

If usually he would go out of the house to run in the morning after the dawn prayer, today Kinara has another idea that is more interesting and seems fun to do.

Armed with a spirit and positive thoughts that had started to spread throughout the cells in her body, Kinara walked out of the room. He looked around for a while to check if Papa was still on the living room couch, and it turned out that the man was gone. Mama must have woken him to be invited to pray.

Then Kinara continued on her way to the kitchen. He looked into the refrigerator to look for ingredients he could cook to make breakfast. But unfortunately, there is only a bunch of green mustard that has been somewhat withered, a pack of white tofu, eggs and mushrooms. None of the ingredients fit what was in Kinara's head for breakfast.

So, Kinara returned to the room. He immediately changed his clothes and grabbed the wallet from the study table and then stepped out of the room excitedly.

Kinara smiled to herself as she passed through Mama and Papa's room, then her steps grew lighter as she managed to reach the living room and finally darted out of the house.

This morning the air was cooler than usual. Kinara slightly shivered and grabbed the jacket wrapped around her body then sped up the pace so that she would not freeze to death before reaching the destination.

A few meters from his house, there is a traditional market that is only active from night until early morning. Kinara passed by a few times, but only this time tried to shop by himself. Because usually, the kitchen shopping has been entirely the responsibility of Mama.

The market is not too crowded. There were only a few people who seemed to be shrouding a single butcher's stall, though, some more crowded in the kitchen spices and some like himself queue to choose vegetables to put in the grocery bags that have been provided.

Although this was the first time he set foot in a traditional market, but Kinara did not feel uncomfortable because the market conditions were completely clean. Trash is collected in the dump that is far enough away so as not to invite the crowd of flies and the market floor has been cemented so as not to cause mishaps despite the rain.

While putting some vegetables into her shopping bag, Kinara glanced at one stall that looked quite quiet compared to the other stalls.

The kiosk was guarded by a woman and one girl who were seen sitting drowsily beside it. After Kinara took a closer look, the girl turned out to be the next-door neighbor's child whom she often peeked through the window of her room when it was raining.

For some reason, Kinara smiled. After paying for all the groceries, Kinara walked over to the stall, which turned out to be selling coconuts, both shredded and intact.

"The price is seven thousand, Neng. Want to get shredded?"

Kinara nodded. He immediately took out fifty thousand bills and extended them to the mother in exchange for a shredded coconut.

"Back forty-three thousand, yes, Neng." Said the mother while looking for change from a small black waist bag wrapped around her waist.

"Not come back, Mom. Make the adek jajan." Kinara said as she stared at the girl who was now looking at her with cute little eyes.

"Loh, no, Neng."

"It's okay, Mother. As a sign of my introduction." Kinara said to the Mother accompanied by a friendly smile. "I'm a neighbor next door to Mom's house, just moved in a few weeks ago. I often see adek when going to school, but there is no time to invite acquaintances." Obviously Kinara was somewhat giving too much information.

This is a rare thing, because he usually does not like to talk to new people, especially if he has to start a conversation first.

But Kinara felt so interested in the girl in front of him, that she was willing to walk first to him.

"Oh, so this is Ma'am who's got a car across, huh? Lestari likes the story that Mbak often ngintipin him from the window of the room." The mother said ending the lightheartedness.

Kinara chuckled because it turned out that the act of peeping on this boy had been discovered. But it was actually good, so he did not need to sneak peek anymore.

"So you know that I like your taste?" ask Kinara to the little boy named Lestari.

Lestari gave a funny nod, making Kinara anxious and powerless to hold back from rubbing her head slowly. "Why not take a peek back? Why even run away? Scared, huh?"

This time, Lestari shook her head. "Shame." Said the boy in a soft voice.

Kinara again chuckled and ruffled the boy's hair which felt smooth touching the surface of his palm. Very smooth, like a newborn's hair.

"From now on, don't be ashamed. We're friends, okay?" kinara said as she extended her hand.

At first Lestari seemed hesitant, but after a brief encounter with her mother, the boy nodded and welcomed Kinara's hand.

Kinara smiled. Then after the link of their hands came off, Kinara re-enforced herself. Actually he still wanted to chat more with Lestari, but he remembered that he had to cook for breakfast and that work had to be done before the sun rose.

So, Kinara said goodbye to Lestari and her mother and immediately walked away from the stall.

Before returning home, Kinara paused briefly at a stall selling chickens to buy one whole chicken. He asked the merchant to cut the chicken into small pieces.

Afterwards, Kinara walked home with a carefree heart.
