In the afternoon when the weather forecast says the day will be clear, the sky is suddenly cloudy and rain starts to fall rapidly in an instant.
Kinara got up from the bed, walking slowly towards the small glass window in her room. His sight was thrown away at the neighboring house across the street. In the window of the room that was in a straight line opposite her, a girl around the age of ten seemed to peek from the gap that the curtain part was exposed. Although vague, Kinara could see the child was staring at him with round eyes laden with purity and innocence.
Wanting to see the child more clearly, Kinara decided to open the window of her room. Instantly the rainwater carried by the wind hit his face, making him reflexively close back the glass window that had been half open.
Kinara pensively for a moment. Though what he likes most when it is raining this way is to open the window of the room to be able to breathe the smell of wet soil that makes it opium. But Kinara forgot that her room was no longer on the second floor of a mansion with a large balcony in front of her. Kinara still likes to forget when the residence is now only a small one-story house whose roof on the right and left side is not too wide so it can only protect from the hot sun. Not with rainwater.
After sighing heavily, Kinara peeked back from behind the window glass. On the terrace next to his house was filled with water and sand carried by splashing rainwater. He did not often spend time on the side terrace because there it can not be used to relax. It's just that, seeing the dirty conditions made Kinara still feel uncomfortable.
Then, Kinara returned to her original intention to see the daughter across from her house. But as he set his sights on it, the boy was no longer there. Or rather, Kinara could not see it because the window blinds in the house had been re-covered.
"Yahhh, I still want to see." Kinara looked disappointed. But in the end he only sighed at not being able to do anything about it.
Feeling that nothing else caught his attention, Kinara twisted her body with the intention to go back up onto the bed. This rainy afternoon is indeed better to use for lying while watching his favorite series. Although there was no longer a smart television in her room like it used to be, Kinara could still use her phone.
But not until his feet next to the mattress, his attention was stolen because the room door was knocked several times. His taping was faint, almost as if it had no intention.
Of course Kinara was wondering about who was knocking on her bedroom door right now. Because if it was Mama, the door would have opened after the third knock was broken.
Since there were only three people in this house and Kinara was sure it wasn't Mama who knocked on the door, then Kinara walked hurriedly to open it. Rarely Papa wants to visit his room because he thinks the room is the most private room owned by someone and not just anyone can be entered even by his own family members. That's why Kinara is also not used to entering the second room of her parents if not Mama or Papa who invited her directly to enter.
Looking at Papa who was standing at the door while glancing at a gaze that was too difficult to translate made Kinara's head come back full of various questions.
"Why, Pa?" that question was the first time Kinara presented it to Papa.
"Can we talk for a minute?" papa's voice sounded slower than usual. It was as if from there alone Kinara could feel Papa had lost a lot of his confidence.
"Can." Kinara replied after being silent for quite a while. "Where are you talking?"
"Here is. Can you?"
Kinara was a bit hesitant to nod her head. But in the end he still let Papa in by shifting his body slightly to the right side.
Papa was also the same ragu when he stepped foot into his daughter's room. He remained silent for a long time before sitting on the edge of the bed.
Kinara followed shortly after Papa sat down. He pulled a chair from the study table and sat down in front of Papa. His back was held up, his ears were prepared to hear whatever Papa would say next.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" ask Kinara after a long period of time.
Papa seemed to catch his breath and exhale a few times. Then, he took out an object from inside his jacket pocket and directly extended it to Kinara. After investigation, it turned out that it was a savings book from one of the largest private banks in Indonesia.
"This what?" tanya Kinara, did not reach the savings book from Papa's hand.
"Your education fund."
Kinara immediately raised his gaze. The gazes they met and all Kinara could see from Papa's two eyeballs was a gaze that was too difficult for him to guess what the meaning behind it was.
"Papa has prepared an education fund for you. At least, you can still continue to go to college even though now we already have nothing else." Because Kinara did not reach for the passbook, Papa finally grabbed Kinara's hand and placed the passbook in his daughter's palm. "You keep it good, yeah."
Kinara's gaze fell on the savings book. Be glued for long enough with the mind hovering in the air. If this is an education fund that has been prepared by Papa for him, then the amount is definitely not small. This was evident when Kinara peeked into the savings book. The nominal listed there is quite a lot.
That fact managed to make Kinara became worried. This much money could be used to help them restart everything. Only, if this money is used for other things, then he will get money from where to finance college which is still two years away?
"Nara? How come you're dumb?" ask Papa who realizes that Kinara is daydreaming.
Papa's voice managed to bring Kinara back to her consciousness. In reality, the commotion was still lodged in his head.
Finally, Kinara let out a heavy sigh in order to throw down the burden that filled her chest cavity. With a slow movement and seemed hesitant, Kinara returned the savings book to Papa's hands, making Papa frown at confusion.
"Well, how's it turned?"
"Nara doesn't want to wear that." Say Nara in the loudest voice possible. He is trying to strengthen his heart to let the money be used for more urgent needs.
"But this is money for you, Nara. For your tuition until graduation. Papa has not worked anymore, even still have to pay some arrears left behind. Papa"
"Nara can make her own money." Kinara Sela. The second after he said that, Kinara berated herself inwardly.
Where does that confidence come from? Does he think finding a job is easy? Even those who already have a college degree are still many who are unemployed and end up being a burden on the family.
Then, a fourth semester student like himself who is still minimal experience is hoping what? Can a desperate capital help?
"Don't, Ra. Your education is Papa's responsibility." Papa tried to develop the passbook into his hands, but Kinara hurriedly pulled his hand and hid it behind the body.
"Bye,"
"We can use that money for more pressing matters." Kinara said with a heart still shrouded in doubt about her own abilities.
"But, Ra-"
"Pa," interrupted Kinara again. "Please listen to what Kinara said. This once."
After that, the breath escaped from the side of Papa's lips, followed by a drop of tears that suddenly fell and Papa hurriedly lowered his head.
Seeing such a scene certainly made Kinara day grieve. For as long as she lived, never once had Kinara seen Papa cry.
"It's okay, cry." Kinara said as she patted Papa's back. "Keep out everyone so Papa's relieved."
That afternoon, along with the falling rain drops. Kinara accompanied Papa to let out a cry that had been buried until it spilled unceremoniously.
