Ch. 8 - Start an Adventure
Although suspicious yet the city guards themselves had no right to coerce Xin Chen. The boy was famous for being so hard to command, stubborn beyond a rock indeed. The difference in the attitude of Xin Chen and Xin Zhan seemed to be a stark contrast from the attitude of the two.
Xin Chen stopped at the end of the passageway and was unable to find anyone. Though previously he was sure of the cloaked figure through this place. Until finally he was pulled tight into a narrow dead-end alley. Xin Chen could not scream as his mouth was smothered in such a way.
"Who are you?" there was a voice behind him, Xin Chen was unable to see due to the lack of illumination. At a glance he could feel this figure holding him back was not human. No human has hairy hands like this.
"I should have asked that. Can you let me go?"
Despite the doubt the figure was willing to let go but it actually happened, Xin Chen was sure he had no ill intentions towards her.
Without any warning the figure struck as well as holding his hand on Xin Chen's chest, making the child protest. "What the fuck?"
"The blood of the devil flows within you..."
"Y-yes? I'm the son of the Demon Sword, you must know him. My name is Xin Chen. And I hope you don't scorn me for my strength in this anchovy class." Without being asked, he immediately introduced himself.
"You have the power of your father."
Xin Chen snorted, although he could not see anything he still had a careless expression. "And you obviously want to cheer me up. Compared to that, can you tell me who?"
Slowly but surely the figure began to appear. A silvery light shone in the darkness, revealing the form of a fox with burning silver eyes. "You can call me the Thunder Fox."
"Whoaa cool seka–"
Xin Chen's mouth was smothered again, not far from them there was the sound of the footsteps of horses in the entourage. It seemed that they were looking for the Lightning Fox that was infiltrating Renwu City.
When the horse party was far away, the Thunder Fox took him to a safer place. Xin Chen was inexhaustibly stunned to see the Lightning Fox-class demon, from the aura he emitted alone he was sure that it was definitely the Lightning Fox not an ordinary demon.
"You're secretly entering human territory, what's it for?" xin Chen asked as they arrived at a meadow. The Lightning Fox stopped its steps and walked normally like a common four-legged beast.
To infiltrate among the humans the Lightning Fox was forced to walk on only two legs, in fact once he had often disguised himself like this. It's just that it's been too long and he's not used to it.
"I feel like there's something wrong with the strange aura around here, so I'm leaving the Mist Forest and looking for it directly."
"The Fog Forest, huh?" Xin Chen recalled for a moment. "Tu-wait, wait. You-you're from that forest?" Suddenly he stuttered when he realized who he was now. "You're what Dad meant by the Lightning Fox?"
"Don't I introduce myself?" The Lightning Fox put on a sour face, she knew Xin Fai's descendants would indeed not be far from her own father but did not expect it to be any more stupid than her. "You've been thinking for a while, if one day you're faced with a precarious situation I'm sure you'll make the wrong decision."
"Hahahaha, it won't. Besides, if that happens, I'm sure the one who's going to handle it is my brother. He's pretty good. Without me, he can be alone."
The Lightning Fox slightly nodded its head. "You guys are brothers."
Plakk!
"Ouch! Forgive me!" Xin Chen screamed as he felt a great throbbing run through his head, like he had been pounded with a hammer.
Xin Chen seemed to have no hope of becoming the strongest. Saving humans to fight against the demon gods. Just to make sure no more bloodshed happens in front of him.
"That's... I've been underestimated too often. Want to practice until my bones are broken and my ability is only this limited. According to them, only Zhan Gege deserves to be the next successor to Dad."
The lyrics of the Lightning Fox's eyes changed when he heard Xin Chen's voice, despair and disappointment rang out clearly as he revealed it. I don't know what he's been through.
"You don't know if you're failing or not just complaining. Until you manage to keep the people who demean you quiet. That's where you can judge whether you really failed or not."
Xin Chen pensively heard it, then replied in the next seconds. "Your words are cool too. Then can I study with you?" The boy looked down respectfully.
"What?"
"Please accept me as your disciple, Thunder Fox. I want to get stronger like you said and find a way to cure Zhan Gege!"
"Cure your brother? What happened to her?" Clearly the Lightning Fox was interested in this, she started to get curious when Xin Chen took out a small knife from the pocket of his robe. Produce carefully while saying slowly.
"I got this just now, it's very likely that this will lead us to the perpetrator who poisoned my brother. And also..." Xin Chen fumbled his clothes, supposedly the Blue Gems of Light were in the circle of his neck.
"I must reclaim Father's Blue Jewel of Light. I'm sure it's precious to him."
"The blue light has been stolen?"
Xin Chen blinked his eyes. "You know something? I never told you anything about the gem, I think it had something to do with something..."
"We have to take it back immediately, you know, with the Blue Jewel of Light, the Water Dragon will come out of its resting place."
"Water Dragon? I've heard it too!"
"Right, if only the people who stole it knew where the Water Dragon was and they took the opportunity to capture it. It was not impossible with the black magic the Water Dragon would turn ferocious. He'll put many people's lives at risk."
"We have to stop him. Anyways... You seem to know a lot about all this, why do you intend to save the humans? I mean, a demon like you doesn't have to interfere with our business, either."
The Lightning Fox smiled slightly, revealing a life stone on its head. "Your father managed to reclaim this thing, my life can last even millions of years thanks to him." When answering her the Lightning Fox had something she was about to say but she knew the discussion was very difficult for Xin Chen to understand later on.
"so... If so, what about my request? Do you want to accept me as your student?"
The Lightning Fox herself did not know what to respond to, she watched the star-studded night sky. Watching him think hard.
If it was true that he had expected for the past year or so, Xin Fai might not have stayed where he was. But this in itself is too risky, facing it alone is not the right choice whereas in this world there are almost no humans whose strength is equivalent to Xin Fai himself.
"I'm sure something that came this time even your own father couldn't help it. What about yourself? Are you willing to become the second Demon Sword? It's not about keeping your Empire peaceful anymore, it's about keeping our world whole. Where humans, animals, demons and others live. You have to guarantee it all with your own life."
