He looked at her and then suddenly, his body swayed as if he was about to faint.
Gavriel caught his shoulder as he began to sway and he held it steadily. He placed himself next to where he was sitting and then lifted him up and placed him on his lap. He took off his robe and blanket before he pressed it against his chest.
He realized how cold his body was as he wrapped his arms around him and rubbed his back quickly to get the heat into him. He was warm and fine when he left. His forehead wrinkled with worry as he quickly wrapped it in a blanket and then his robe.
He grabbed her hand, which had become ice-cold, and began rubbing it in an attempt to warm it up.
He never thought he would easily become this cold in such a short time.
He knew humans, especially women, were weak creatures but it seemed like this rabbit was much weaker than he had expected so weak that it seemed that a brief exposure to the cold temperature was enough to beat him up.
After some time, the girl in his arms finally started to warm up again. He lost consciousness shortly after he placed it on his lap and he did not know if it was due to cold or shock or both. He felt his steady breathing and he heaved a sigh of relief but then, his eyes became as sharp as his sword as the carriage door opened.
A long-haired big man, wearing a black robe identical to his, was standing by the door. He looked like he was about to speak but was soon silenced by Gavriel's deadly gaze.
"You're late, Samuel," said Gavriel in a low, calm voice that made not only the great man named Samuel, but the four other men outside the carriage, gasp in obvious fear.
"Sorry, Your Majesty." The big man bowed apologetically as someone interjected from behind Samuel.
"Please don't blame Samuel, Your Majesty. I was the one who insisted that the human woman would still rest in the inn. But it turned out that my prediction was wrong" said the thin, brunette, and intelligent-looking man, named Zolan.
Gavril sighed. He understood why his men would think that way because he was even surprised when Evielyn insisted on continuing the journey after only a few hours of rest.
He thought his wife would delay the trip as much as she could because it was pretty obvious that she was afraid. But, he did the opposite of what he expected.
"Enough." Gavriel raised his free hand, ignoring the curious and surprised look in his men's eyes as they watched him carry his wife.
"Do you think this train can still cross the valley?"
Samuel shook his head. "I'm afraid our only option right now is to carry her."
"He won't stand the cold" said Gavriel.
Looking at their prince's expression as he said those words, the men glanced at each other quickly.
"Then, should Levy and I go to the village to pick up a new train?" advice Zolan.
"No." Gavriel rejected his suggestion and then fell silent as he stared at the woman wrapped in his arms. After a while, he raised his face back to his men and gave the order.
"Take off all your robes."
"Give me," Gavriel ordered and once again, the men glanced at each other, except for Samuel who kept staring at the vampire prince.
One by one, the people approached the carriage, one file and handed over their robes that they had snapped earlier to remove the dust and dirt and all folded neatly, to their prince.
The face of the vampire prince was so serious that no one dared to question what he was going to do. Those people could only wait to see what he wanted to do with all those robes. And then, they watched him carefully and slowly wrapped the human girl in their robes.
Their eyes widened in shock, mouths agape without a word. Their prince was moving so slowly that to them, a turtle might be moving faster than him.
Vampires moved quickly and it made no difference to this prince. In fact, Prince Gavriel's speed was actually unmatched so just by looking at him now moving so slowly made them almost pant as if they were about to have a heart attack. Wh why? Why would he have to move so slowly like that?
No matter how these people tried to explain the actions of their prince, they could not understand. They knew about the weak female human being but wasn't she too exaggerated? Or is he afraid to wake her up? Why was he afraid to wake her up? They could not think of a logical answer for them.
The five able-bodied vampires were all frowning as they remained silent, watching the extremely slow-moving show in front of them. They never knew something like this would frustrate them to no end. They just watch.
After a while, the prince finally managed to put on the final robe around the human girl. The vampires quietly and together exhaled their bated breaths, as if there was an inaudible 'finally' being released simultaneously, in their minds.
Now completely wrapped in thick, all-black clothes, Gavriel double-checked to make sure that the girl was properly covered from head to toe before she finally lifted her face. He moved out of the carriage with the girl in his arms and spoke.
"We will travel slowly" he ordered and with that, he jumped. His men followed him up close, happy to finally be able to move again.
But then, after a few minutes, his men found themselves pouting at their situation once more. They can't hold it. It was because the 'swallow' that their prince mentioned wasn't even the slow type that they or all vampires knew.but now It's very slow.
''Man .... What's wrong with His Majesty? Did he perhaps think that the girl would die if he sped up a little?'' the jolly looking man named Levy said those words to his comrades through his eyes. He would not dare to whisper because the prince would definitely hear. Vampires could talk to each other through telepathy as long as they stared at each other directly.
Levy's colleagues just shrugged but their expressions all showed that the same thoughts were also flowing in their minds. They are among the best of all vampire warriors – the elite. They never travel or move this late in their lives!
They didn't even know that something like this would actually frustrate them so much that they had seen and experienced it firsthand.
''Jeez! Zolan, tell Your Majesty that the girl will definitely not die if we speed things up a bit! For her own good. It's too much!'' Levy complained again.
"Why didn't you tell him yourself?" Zolan responded with a demonic expression on his face.
Frustrated, Levy turned her gaze to a stoic-looking fellow named Luc, who gave the same reaction.
''Ugh, you can do it Reed!'' Levy said to the youngest but the man named Reed, just blinking innocently and turning his gaze away, ignoring Levy.
''Your Majesty is acting strangely! What the hell happened to him? Did the humans do anything to her? One of us should at least escort him when he sets foot on human soil!'' Levy continued to complain, jumping or bouncing backwards while facing his comrades.
