Evie ends up spending all the time waiting for Gavriel in their room, sometimes pacing around, sometimes sitting on the bed in a daze – but she never shows up.
He eventually falls into a troubled and restless sleep, plagued with a painful and heavy heart.
When he finally woke up, his gaze immediately fell onto the empty side of their bed before he turned his head towards the window. It's already night.
Even though he was sleeping, it felt as if he was not resting but suffering greater mental torment if it was possible.
A bitter smile fell on Evie's lips. Her resigned heart could only conclude that she must have gone first and slept with her beautiful concubines.
No matter how he tried to deny her feelings or ignore her, the reality was that he hated how his heart was squeezing in pain. A soft bitter laugh came out from his lips as he buried his face in his palm.
She couldn't help but laugh because now her husband had finally done what she expected him to do from the start .. she was so desperate ... why for God's sake was it so painful? He wasn't prepared for something like this, for this kind of pain.
This was clearly not part of his plan. Things have really taken a detour - and the main one at that!
Throughout the night, Evie did not bother to leave her room. Elias had brought food for him and he ate it in silence, not even bothering to talk to Elias.
The butler couldn't help but worry as he acted indifferently again. Although he was not as stubborn as last time in the capital, he was worried about him this time because of his silence.
And just like that, morning came and it was time for her to sleep again. She had just walked out of the dressing room, wearing an evening gown and a robe, when she froze at the sight that greeted her.
The man she had been waiting for since yesterday finally returned to their room, wearing a white robe. Wet black hair, signifying he had just finished his bath.
Evie's throat suddenly became extremely tight. All the thoughts that almost made him cry now hit him like painful waves as he stood there silently like a statue, silently and sadly looking into the common area where he stood.
He certainly did not notice the longing look in Gavriel's eyes as he looked at her as if he had finally seen someone he had long wanted to meet.
Although it was only a day and a night that had passed since the last time they met.
With a gentle smile, Gavriel took a few steps towards him.
He nodded and he stopped. His eyes narrowed as his gentle smile suddenly faded.
Confusion in his eyes but a moment later, he smiled again. He remembered how his wife had responded to his kiss the last time they were together. He could still clearly visualize in the eyes of his mind, his exact expression when he promised her that he would come back and continue where they left off. So, even though he suddenly flinched again, Gavriel's mind was still positive.
"Are you mad at me, my wife?" he asked, a little something naughty mixed with his deep and resolute voice. Her eyes never deviated from her, holding her gaze, and never blinking that Evie was forced to sever her eye contact with her.
"No, I'm not mad at you." His words came out, sounding hollow and seemingly draining all of the emotions that made Gavriel's smile fade suddenly and made him freeze in his tracks with narrowed eyes.
His gaze became serious as he approached her. He could tell something was wrong.
Evie steps back but Gavriel doesn't stop until she corners him and Evie's back hits the edge of the table.
"I think you're mad, Evie. Is it because I failed to accompany you to dinner?" he decided to test the water.
His gaze wavered again, disliking his voice and the way he refused to look at her.
"Stop lying to me like that wife, you're obviously upset." He said, his lips touching his ears and Evie jerked again. He attempts to sneak away but Gavriel's hands and arms have effectively locked him away, trapping him between him and the table and Gavriel's powerful hands on both sides.
"I told you I didn't. Please let me go." His voice was cut off, and short. There was absolutely no shame and the warmth he clearly remembered was still there the last time they had their last conversation.
He looked at her for a moment, his eyes darkened with displeasure.
"Stop being stubborn like this Evie.it makes me want to torture you."
His eyes widened as he finally looked at her. The shock and accusation in his eyes made him bite his lower lip hard.
Did he really think he was going to hurt her? That he was even able to force himself to do so? Gavriel could not help but laugh half-heartedly thinking that.
"Don't be surprised Evie... I'm talking about a sweet and pleasant torment, I'm sure you'll like it." He said, his eyes glittering dazzlingly as he flashed a smile more deadly than anything else in his dictionary. Such a seductive smile was enough to make him forget his predicament for a moment.
But she shook herself inwardly, determined not to let him persuade her further than he already did.
What he went through all day and night had injured him internally too much. Accepting his progress was akin to digging a hole for his inevitable death in the end.
What he had already experienced was enough to wake him from this beautiful but deadly dream. It was time for him to face reality before it was too late. He must stop dreaming now and remember and focus on keeping his vow. One day, he will find himself devastated and helpless, long before any rescue will reach him.
"I said I wasn't lying. Why am I angry just because you don't eat with me?"
"Then tell me, why are you .. Could it be because you are waiting for me?" He blinked, astonished at the furrowing of his brows.
"You ... You're wrong." His voice faltered and it was enough for Gavriel to realize that he was on the right track. And just like that, the sour look on his face disappeared. He was so happy that he was really waiting for him.
"Oh my God, Evie ..." His breathing panted as he approached, his cold breath touching his lips.
"I'm just warning you not to lie to me like that... Could it be that you did this on purpose because you wanted to experience the torment I was talking about?"
Her sensual heavy voice and the way her breath stroked her face almost made Evie succumb to her inner temptation. But he bravely persevered with his willpower, reminding himself of the heartache he had just experienced.
"There is no such thing as sweet torment. At least I know it's a joke."
"Oh no, Evie. I can show it to you now—"
"Please let me go." He cut. His voice dropped a few degrees and was colder as he placed his hand on his chest to push him away.
He looked at her, his facial lines forming a hard ridge, not expecting his cold response. His confusion returned again, and his patience was running low. And then, his eyes narrowed as if something had appeared in his mind.
"Tell me, Evie.. Did something happen? Did anything upset you? Who's that?"
