Elias could not deny the reason, but he also disagreed with his master's offer to help his wife like a servant!
"You may be right, but you can't just offer to take over a waiter's job like that. You are not a servant, Your Majesty! Please think of your position."
"I'm her husband. And it's not a problem. Helping my wife is my responsibility." His gaze sharpened, causing Elias to sigh, knowing that it was not a good idea for him to say more. 'Oh my God, ' he can only think in himself.
"Prepare something for him to eat." He ordered and Elias moved immediately.
An ******* was in the out of Gavriel's lips as soon as Elias left. Crossing his arms in front of him, he leaned his head against the door.
"Evi?" he called a while later when he thought that his wife had been too long.
"Yes. I'm almost done." He heard her soft voice and he finally pushed himself away from the door. He walked towards the foot of the bed and sat there as he waited for her to come out.
Evie was already wearing a royal blue dress when she emerged from the door. She remained as beautiful as ever, the color of her dress contrasted with her porcelain skin. And she .. and her long silvery blonde hair became dark, wet and tangled. His cheeks flushed as their eyes met before he immediately threw his face away.
"I told you, I can shower and dress myself." He said a little proudly, his eyes wandering around the room and then stopped in the mirror.
He moved a little awkwardly, clearly well aware of his presence and sat on a small bench in front of the mirror.
He picked up the brush and when he gathered his wet hair to the side, his back was visible.
Gavriel stood up, approached him.
Evie saw him approaching through the reflection in the mirror and he straightened his body. Flashing, he saw her bowing behind him.
"Let me," came her pleasant voice and she felt her fingers buttoning the fingers she missed in her dress.
She flinched almost at the same time her brush got stuck in her hair.
He deliberately pulled harder to free her and also to draw her attention away from him. As he did that, he grimaced with a slight pain in his scalp.
But suddenly, Gavriel's hand covered his.
"Let me," he said again as he looked into his eyes through the mirror. Before his mind could work, his body reacted first by releasing the brush and he dropped his hand.
As Gavriel palpated a strand of her hair, Evie's heart pounded.
Her body stiffened as she bit the inside of her lower lip and told herself she had to protest. He is not his assistant .. he is a prince .. he is him ...
Gently, he pulled his brush, very carefully, as if his hair was a precious and fragile thread that he was afraid of damaging it.
The protesting voice in his head was pushed into the darkness as his eyes fell into the mirror and watched him take his duties very seriously.
He could see her long, thick eyelashes curling from the currently hidden smoldering eyes and the strands of black hair of her velvet touching her forehead.
And he found that he couldn't take his eyes off her – not because he wanted it. And that thought surprised him more than his inability to stop looking at him.
The little demons on her shoulders whispered her to just sit and enjoy the touch of her husband's fingers in her hair, her scalp, and on her nape.
The feeling was unusually soothing, he felt like he was dreaming. She never thought she would feel this way with just her brushing her hair.
Before he realized it, every thought and unwillingness was discarded and he actually sighed and relaxed. This was probably the most relaxing moment she had ever experienced since they met.
"Why ... are humans not allowed in this place?" he heard himself ask.
When Gavriel raised her gaze, a thin smile curved across her lips as she looked at her relaxed face.
He closed his eyes and he seemed to like what he was doing. It made him happy, it was incredible.
"Because the vampires here swear never to treat humans as food or their slaves." He started.
"From the beginning, this place was secluded for that reason. Vampires here never eat human blood. And they have even passed laws long ago to prohibit humans from entering this city. So even with the rampant slavery that's going on all over the empire, there would be no reason for the vampires here to succumb to the temptation of drinking human blood."
That explanation surprised Evie in a good way. In all the possible reasons that he, his father, and their colleagues thought of, this was not one of the possibilities that they considered.
"really? So that was the reason why.." he looked at her and their eyes met.
"Yes. Human blood is addictive to vampires. It only takes one taste and desire for it cannot be removed. Here, human blood is treated as dangerous as addictive drugs. That is why it is forbidden and illegal. And that's why you're 'safe here, Evie." He's convincing.
"But..did not my existence here be a temptation for them?"
His hands in his hair stopped and a slow smile curved on his lips. She pinched her lower lip between her perfect white teeth, and something sparkled in her eyes that made her even more magnetic and even more seductive for Evie.
"Yes. That's why I have no choice but to send the waiter away and stay with you at all times."
"But you're also a vampire. Aren't you tempted to..." Evie was speechless, speechless by her own words and silenced by the look in the man's eyes.
Gavriel leaned closer, her lips near her ears as her gaze locked onto her lips through the mirror.
"Yes, you will be the greatest temptation for me .. but it is not your blood, Evie .. it is just you.." she whispered, disappearing, evokes a small vibration that starts at his neck and goes down to his back, leaving a pleasant tingling feeling.
"Mrs' meal is ready, Your Majesty." A knock rang out from the door followed by a voice, breaking the silence that followed Gavriel's intense words.
He retreated and looked at her hair before giving a satisfied nod and finally letting her strands slide smoothly over her fingers - losing their texture as soon as they slipped out of her grasp.
When he lifted his gaze into the mirror, he saw his wife's face burning red . She found her reaction absolutely adorable, and her lips were finally pink again.
Since he had woken her before dawn, Gavriel knew that she must be starving.
He had suspected his weakness from the past until now was mostly caused by starvation.
The reason was, last night, as soon as he got home, he had been digging from his servant and Elias that he had not eaten well since he left, and he even missed his dinner before going to bed last night.
He had planned to feed her but with all the chaos going on, he had no chance.
"You should have breakfast now, wife." She reached out her hand and as soon as Evie picked it up, she took it out of the room.
"Your Majesty, the officials are waiting for you in the main hall." Samuel reported respectfully, after greeting the couple with a formal bow.
"They've been waiting for an hour now, Your Majesty." Elias interjected, his face somewhat grim.
"I'll take Your Majesty to the dining room."
Gavriel sighed but as she looked at him, she,
"It's okay, please go," written all over her face, with a small smile to make sure she's okay with it.
"Alright," he finally relented but before leaving, he bowed nearby without warning, he whispered in his ear.
"Make sure to eat A LOT, Evie. Otherwise, I'll come and feed you myself."
His stern gaze then fell upon Elias. 'I'm handing him over to you. Make sure she eats a lot and don't let anyone near her.' He warned firmly through their silent communication and when the butler nodded, the prince finally left.
Elias immediately took Evie to the dining room. He watched Levy watching and following them from a distance.
Elias was not even surprised at all by the excessive precautions. He could only mentally roll his eyes and grin in his mind at His Majesty's clear and overwhelming concern for His Majesty's well-being.
The woman did not know but on the day she was almost killed by a wild beast in a small forest, Gavriel almost turns his castle upside down and becomes terrified thinking he almost lost it while his wife was sleeping.
From that day on, they all realized how serious their prince was towards his wife. He was someone they had to protect at all costs or else ... Elias did not even want to think about what the prince would do.
Looking back to his attention and relief, Elias casually sees that the woman is finally eating well.
He had been worried the past few days and he was starting to get a little annoyed with his attitude.
But it seemed like she was fine now, and she even ate so enthusiastically like a starving little kitten.
