Evie felt a sharp pinch in her hand and realized that she was clenching her fists tightly.
He not only averted his gaze from them but also turned from looking at the sight.
Something's wrong with him. Why did he suddenly feel so bad? He did the right thing.
She refused his offer to dance with him, so of course she had no right to hold him by her side when a beautiful woman wanted to dance with him.
He was very educated when faced with this kind of situation. Even in the human kingdom, any woman can ask a prince or emperor to dance if they are brave and noble enough. It was something normal, and he assumed it would be the same in this country? If that woman was the fiancee of the prince, she must be a noblewoman. He had the right to ask Gavriel to dance so why did he feel this way? This is not true.
Evie shook her head slightly and then took a deep breath. He scolded himself inside his head and somehow, he managed to feel a little better.
But as his eyes caught them on the dance floor, swinging so gracefully, looking into each other's eyes, and looking so perfect as if they were a pair made in heaven, he said, something strange and terrifying bloomed in Evie's heart.
Despite his struggles, he seemed to be unable to resist this unwanted feeling of eating him. He tried to push her away, knowing that it was ridiculous for her to suddenly sense something like this, but why was it so difficult for her to control this overwhelming response? Wh why?
"Good night, Madam." A friendly voice drew his attention from the turmoil within him. When he raised his face, a tall and skinny man stood in front of him.
He had intense sapphire blue eyes that seemed to be able to pierce through one's soul. Her hair was blonde and beautiful like princesses and emperors.
"I think I should introduce myself first." Her smile was pleasant and sweet.
"I am Caius, brother of Gavriel."
Evie almost chokes in surprise, but somehow, she manages to keep her reaction on herself and outwardly stay graceful.
"It is nice to meet you, Crown Prince Caius. My name—"
"Evielyn." He took the word out of his mouth with a smile before offering his hand.
"May I dance with Madam?"
Evie had no idea what possessed her but before she could contain herself, she found herself accepting the crown prince's hand.
He did that right after glancing at Gavriel who seemed unable to take his eyes off the woman's face.
As he followed the crown prince to the dance floor, Evie's heart was pounding.
His mind was currently in chaos, arguing with himself about what he was doing while a bad feeling still gripped his heart violently.
She had rejected her husband but accepted the crown prince's offer? Just what happened to him?
"You nervous?" The heavy voice of the prince almost made him flinch. She finally realized her hands were already on her waist and they were already dancing.
"Uhm. bit, Your Majesty." She said while looking at him, momentarily putting her predicament in the background.
"Don't worry. I'm me," he assured her. As Evie looked at him, she couldn't help but admire his good looks.
He was not as otherworldly as Gavriel but he still had an appearance that could break many women's hearts.
But wait. isn't he Gavriel's brother? Now that he's looking closely, Evie realizes that Gavriel has nothing in common with this man.
Why does only Gavriel look so different from the three of them – the three of them he calls family?
"I hope Gavriel treats you well, Lady Evielyn. I'm afraid he doesn't know how to be gentle to a woman like you." The crown prince said in a low voice. Evie almost frowned but luckily she managed to keep her face cool and calm.
He thought maybe the man didn't say these words to mock Gavriel because he seemed to really care about her. Why should he be worried from the start?
"His Majesty Gavriel treated me well. She's actually..." Evie remembers how gentle Gavriel was to her since she met her at the altar on the night of their wedding.
"He's very gentle with me, Your Majesty."
"I see.it's a relief then. Nonetheless, I believe I should warn you, Miss. My brother may look harmless but he's a dangerous man. I'd like you to remember that and never try to provoke him."
Evie could no longer keep her face straight. He did not understand why this Prince had said something like this to him.
Wasn't this the first time they had met, let alone spoken to one of the parties? He would understand a little if he tried to destroy Gavriel's image in his eyes but that didn't seem to be his goal.
What exactly was he aiming for by raising this matter? Is he trying to scare her?
"I... I appreciate your concern, Your Majesty but please do not worry... I am well aware that vampires are as dangerous to ordinary humans as I am. I wouldn't dare provoke him or anyone in this country." Evie tried to answer as calmly as possible.
The Prince's sapphire eyes seemed to be getting deeper in color as he moved a little closer.
"It seems you still know nothing about your husband, Lady Evielyn. I know he swore he would never hurt you, but there were times when my brother lost control of himself. It looked as if he was scanning his surroundings before he continued.
"Stay away from him and never dream of provoking him."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I don't want war to suddenly break out if something happens to you." He calmly responded.
Evie tries to look for signs of lies in her striking blue eyes, but all her face just shows that she really cares about her well-being.
"My brother's been gone for years. He just got back from a long .. journey." Evie felt as if she had just omitted something from her previous sentence.
"We thought he was long dead, but he came back to life. A lot has changed in him since then. So, I tried to warn you in advance because I knew my brother wouldn't tell you about this."
"You mean... about his journey and the change in him?"
"Yes. He never talked about anything related to his journey. So as the crown prince and his elder brother, I believe it is better for me to tell you about this. I believe this is important. For your sake, Madam."
Evie blinked and all she could do was nod.
"I understand. I'll remember it, Your Majesty."
He gave her a friendly smile and Evie could only return her smile. Curiosity flooded his mind. He wants to know more about Gavriel.
She turned to look for her husband and how shocked she was, those beautiful but sharp eyes were on him.
Evie involuntarily gulped because for a moment, she thought she was angry. However, when the woman touched Gavriel's face to look at her, the uneasy feeling in her stomach that momentarily disappeared returned – and this time, wholeheartedly.
