Marrying the Vampire Prince

Marrying the Vampire Prince
chapter 5's

By the time Evie opened her eyes again, the sun was already peering over the horizon, it was morning . He flickered groggyly and then a second later, realizing that he was lying in someone's arms.

Turning around, she looked up and a beautiful face greeted her good morning.

His eyes turned as he looked at the man and immediately, he pushed himself away from him so hard that his back hit the wall on the other side of the carriage.

Deep lines formed on the man's delicate forehead, but, "Good morning, Evielyn," he still greeted.

He seemed unhappy with his reaction. Regardless of his expression, Evie could only stare at him. His legs were still open, one resting on a chair and the other hanging onto the floor.

Evie knew that she was in that position because she had carried him in her sleep.

And more importantly, she. oh god. Gavriel, her vampire husband, in the morning unlike the angel of darkness who appeared last night, she now looks approachable and almost harmless. . It was as if the morning had turned him into an angel of light or something. Evie could even stare at him longer now without flinching.

He closed his eyes and then blinked quickly, as if he was trying to wake himself up from the hallucinations, but when he saw him again, his shoulders dropped, disappointed that he was not hallucinating at all. Inevitably Evie felt an unpleasant feeling in his heart. This wasn't supposed to happen. She should not have admired the beauty of any vampire. He should hate them all.

"Good morning, you .. I mean ... G-gavriel," Evie tried to answer calmly.

"We will stay in this inn until you are ready to continue the journey," he said as he opened the carriage door and then he jumped down and extended his hand towards her.

Hesitating, Evie put her hand in her hand and she gently helped him down. Ever since she held her hand at the altar, this man, she noticed, had always held it with almost excessive tenderness - something she never expected from her vampire husband.

"Make sure to take your time and rest well," he said, making Evie look into the inn in front of them before she looked around.

"Have we crossed the border yet?" she asked. He was happy that the rain had stopped and the weather looked fine again.

“Yes. This inn is the last place where you can rest comfortably. It will be a long journey after this. It will take longer for us to cross the Dark Valley and reach the next village .the journey is still a long way off, so make sure to get enough rest. We can stay here for at least three hours" he said as he guided her into the inn.

Evie eats in her private room alone. Her husband didn't come back to check on her - or maybe he did but he missed it because he might have already fallen asleep in bed.

Before the wedding day, Evie had actually traveled for days to reach Rennox Castle where their wedding took place.

The Ylvia family was in the Southern Empire and the human emperor could not let the vampires set foot in the South so they brought Evie to the Eastern empire, to the fortress closest to the northern border. It was a long journey. Although she rested for a few days before the vampires arrived, Evie's exhaustion from her last unpleasant journey still hasn't fully recovered. And now, he's making another new journey. A journey he will never forget.

After taking a nap for about two hours, Evie wakes up and prepares for the long journey ahead. He had a small chat with the old innkeeper when the old woman brought him her food and he told her that they had to cross the Dark Valley before the day ended because the place was so dangerous. He said that the Valley of Darkness was a strange dark forest.

Evie had also heard before from one of their soldiers that the Valley of Darkness was where vampires liked to ambush human warriors in every war. It is said to be the first and hardest obstacle for humans to cross every time they invade the land of vampires. The innkeeper also told him that at night, the place would be filled with famous beasts coming from Middle Land.

Evie didn't want to meet any animals. The vampire had already killed him with such fear that he did not want to see any of the creatures either! He already had enough 'joy' in the last twenty-four hours to last a lifetime without adding that to the list! If that was really the case, he did not know if he would reach the vampire imperial palace without fainting from fear! Worse, he might not even reach the land of vampires alive if the beasts attacked them! The vampires present at their wedding were all gone.

The only ones left at their party are himself, the vampire prince and the vampire coachman. Why did everyone leave them? Wasn't her husband a prince?

Human princesses and princes, even her, noble princesses, had knights or guards appointed to stay by their side whenever they traveled anywhere. Although he sometimes disliked it, he knew it was a safety precaution. But with this vampire prince - they all left him just like that! Is it because they think he doesn't need protection?

Evie could not come up with a reasonable conclusion. But then, he thought that vampires might have a different system or perhaps the prince he married might be so helpless that his emperor did not even bother to give him guards. Evie had heard of such a helpless prince, especially one born from concubines and servants. This thought made Evie even more worried. They really had to cross the border before daylight faded to avoid those dangerous beasts!

"Are you sure you don't want to stay longer? We can continue the journey this afternoon or even at night," a deep and pleasant voice echoed within the room and as Evie looked over her shoulder, she saw a very beautiful creature, which she was, her husband was a vampire, looking at her as she leaned against the door frame. He did not notice his arrival or his presence at all.

"I-it's okay. I prefer to travel during the day" he said, taking his eyes off her. "I'm ready."

His resolute answer made his right eyebrow twitch slightly as he watched her, but eventually, he sighed softly before finally succumbing.

As the two of them left the inn, Evie looked back and saw the old human couple coming out as well to escort them away. Evie waves at the human couple before she enters the carriage, wondering if they will be the last humans she sees on this journey. But then he remembered that vampires agreed to give human servants because vampires had many human slaves on their land. The thought somehow made him feel less worried.
