Knowing his prince's anger was almost unbearable by a thread and that this might end if he did not speak, Elias could only answer him.
He should have known for a long time that this stubborn prince would never agree to take the concubine.
Why would he allow himself to believe the rumors without consulting the prince first?
"So, you mean ... My wife knows about these women?" he choked, unsure if he would just explode with the anger he was holding back.
"Yes .. yes, Your Majesty. The Duchess is the one who tells her that you agreed to .. finally have a concubine. He had also added that if it wasn't for your approval, the Duke and the other officials wouldn't have dared to arrange these women for you." Elias decides that he will not go wrong by telling Prince Gavriel everything that was talked about between the nobleman and Evie yesterday, just in case.
Gavriel was so shocked that he was speechless. How could something like this happen with just him leaving the castle for a day?
Gritting his teeth and growling softly, Gavriel threw a deadly gaze at Elias, for he already knew that the butler also trusted every word of the nobleman.
"Tell the Duke and everyone involved in this matter to head for the throne hall. NOW!" The prince ordered ferociously before he turned around and returned to the room he was staying in with his wife.
He had to correct this misunderstanding with her first!
Elias stood frozen in fear for a moment before he finally managed to move his trembling legs like a stiff branch in winter.
He could only pray inwardly so that the prince could fix this matter, and everything would be fine between the couple before he came to the throne hall and dealt with others. If things could not be smoothed out with the princess, with the look on her face and the way she behaved, there would definitely be bloodshed.
Heaven! What have they done? Unfortunately, he was part of this misunderstanding as well. This is a big deal!!!
As Gavriel entered their room, he was greeted by the sight of his wife standing still like a statue by the window, facing outside.
Her white evening dress and silvery key danced around in the cold wind blowing towards her and into their room.
In her eyes, she was like a sad and lonely goddess –.
Knowing that he had not felt his presence, Gavriel advanced towards him.
And as expected, once he realized his presence, he stiffened. He stopped just to touch her.
Scoundrel.
His heart ached at the thought of how he had hurt her so badly.
But he could not help but feel happiness deep down in his heart. If she acted this way towards him again due to such a misunderstanding, this only meant that she wanted it for herself, right? It astonished him how his burning rage disappeared like mist in front of the sun just by thinking about it.
He wondered how he could make her feel all this spectrum of powerful and diverse emotions at once. The miracle this woman had on her ...
Against the urge to go ahead and grab her in his arms, Gavriel called out her name gently as she took small steps to get closer to him.
"Evie. forgive me," her voice soft and warm, indicating that she came in peace.
Evi did not answer.
"It's a misunderstanding, wife. Look at me.." insisted, but Evie remained motionless. When his gaze fell on his hands hanging loosely on his sides and saw his pale fists clenching and goosebumps all over his skin, Gavriel realized how cold the wind was blowing for him.
Worried, Gavriel quickly reached out to grab his shoulder to face him and kept him away from the window to close it.
But when he saw her face, he froze.
Seeing her crystal tears continue to flow down her cold cheeks and her beautiful, clear and sorrowful eyes made her mind freeze and numb from shock.
Not knowing what to do, Gavriel slowly raised her hand and respectfully touched her face, putting it under her ear.
Her icy cheeks made her heart even more painful, but what struck her the most were her tears.
"Sorry.." her voice broke slightly and she then inched forward, wiping the distance between them, she buried her face in her hair and hugged him, almost in despair.
"I'm sorry, this is a misunderstanding. Those ladies. I never allowed it. I never agreed. I didn't even know Duke called them here." He explained as quickly as he could.
"Please. No cry. I have been outside the castle since yesterday, observing the frontlines in preparation for the war. It was very sudden when I received an urgent report informing me that the crown prince was on his way here to besiege the city."
Evie couldn't believe what she was hearing.
The warmth she had as she hugged him so tightly, a desperate tone she used, cracks appeared in her voice ... his apologies and explanations - what he felt back then could not be expressed in words and all he could do was cry even louder.
He did not even know if he was crying like this because of the pain caused by the man or because of the relief that enveloped his entire being after hearing his explanation.
When she sensed her presence just a moment ago, the emotions she was struggling to contain immediately burst out so violently that she did not even realize that she was already crying until she told her.
"I'm sorry .. I'm sorry ..." she sounded slow, confused and really apologetic, hugged her tighter and kissed her head over and over again in desperation, hoping to make him feel better.
He would do anything in this world just to make her stop crying.
That feeling could not be explained by Evie. How could this one man make her feel all that pain and then instantly melt it down so easily just by hugging her tightly and telling her that she was sorry?
And like that his nightmare ended, and he was in a dream again. And she could not help but give in to the warmth, comfort, and peace from her dreamlike embrace.
It took a whole minute before Evie could control her sobs enough to finally speak.
"Be...really?" That was the first word that came out of his mouth. His fingers were still clenched tightly onto his robe, wanting him to tell her again that he did not agree to have a concubine.
"You really... disagree?"
Gavriel withdrew to look at his face, his expression inexplicable as both of his hands cupped his face, his thumb gently wiping away his still flowing tears.
"I can call Duke here now—"
"But I saw you. with those two women..."
"You're after me?" Gavriel's eyes widened.
"O Lord Evie, that's .. I'm so sorry I made such a big mistake. I followed them without question because I was overwhelmed by my emotions and I thought they were not planning anything. But believe me, I didn't touch any of them, baby. I told you, there's no woman I want—"
He could not even finish his statement as Evie suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist and immersed herself in his arms again.
His actions made Gavriel freeze, as if something extraordinary had just happened to him.
She, hugging him of her own accord .. she could not believe what was happening. Did the sun just rise from the west today?
"Is it true ..." she uttered and when she felt she nodded her head as her grip on him tightened, as if she had no intention of letting go, relief and joy flowed within, and there was no need for him to be able to do so, swallowed whole.
He felt an inexplicable swelling in his heart so he could not help but smile.
