It felt as if at last, they were finally standing before the emperor.
As Evie looked at the emperor, she was shocked. He expected the vampire emperor to be someone so terrifying that he would probably shiver all over his body just by standing in front of him.
However, to his confusion, he did not feel any of that. Indeed, the emperor was a big man, but he actually thought inwardly after seeing it well that he was not scary.
"I'm glad you came tonight, Lady Evielyn." His voice sounded like water rushing over the bottom of the river – was really unexpected to see his large body.
Confused, Evie bowed and greeted him.
"The pleasure is mine, Your Majesty." He managed to say everything without stammering. And after a few small talk,
Gavriel took him to his designated seat.
Evie felt relieved, but as soon as they sat down, she could still feel the atmosphere somewhat tense.
He finally looked around and when his eyes caught Gavriel's men, his brows furrowed. Something's not right. This is the dance hall, why are they all armed and even look alert?
He looked at Gavriel, and he finally realized that the man had never spoken to the emperor.
Why could she not remember the emperor throwing a glance at her husband since they had approached him?
Did Gavriel even greet His Royal Father? She didn't!!
That realization surprised Evie. He looked around again and he couldn't help but think that perhaps his presence wasn't the main reason that contributed to the strange mood change in the dance hall.
She doesn't know why, but she has a hunch that the real culprit isn't her but her husband's vampire prince – Gavriel. Butwhy?
As the music continued to play in the background, Evie distracted her by looking around.
A princess named Vera had approached him some time ago and like the emperor, the woman was suddenly friendly to him.
Although he hurriedly left right after greeting Gavriel in an obviously hasty manner.
Elias, who stands behind Evie, tells her that Vera is the only vampire princess in the empire.
Evie was surprised because at home, there were at least ten princesses in their kingdom. The difference is too big! But maybe, there are more princes?
"What about the princes? How many are there?" Evie asked Elias.
Although Gavriel sat next to him, he preferred to ask Elias. Despite the fact that Elias is very easy to talk to, almost emitting the same vibe he got from Fray and Gina, Evie also thinks that this way, too, he can avoid approaching Gavriel – especially avoiding his bewitching eyes.
"There are only two, Madam." Said the butler. "The Crown Prince and His Majesty Gavriel."
Evi's eyes widened. Really true? Just two?! It seems that it is true that the ability of vampires to reproduce offspring is indeed very low compared to humans. Now he somewhat has an understanding of why vampires finally agree to a truce.
As his mind was preoccupied with his own thoughts, he did not see how Gavriel threw a threatening look towards the poor butler.
Evie was deeply unaware that the butler behind her had taken a few steps away from her after receiving a cold stare until she turned around to ask more questions.
Evie's brain shouts at her to take her eyes off and luckily she manages to turn her face away before she loses herself in those seemingly hypnotic eyes. Dancing off? Withhim? Nah! He tried very hard to keep his distance from her so why would he agree to dance with her? He only agreed to come to this party because he did not give her the chance to refuse.
And he thought that this would be a great opportunity to understand this place and even meet with the emperor so when the time comes, he might be able to use the information he gathered during this trip to help the – humans once his father came to the rescue.
"I'm sorry but I.." he bit his lip as his shoulder stiffened.
"I still am"
"It's okay if you're not ready." Her pleasant voice pulled her eyes back at him and then, she smiled at him. It was a slow and beautiful smile, Evie had to remind herself to breathe. My god! Did this guy do it on purpose? He must have seduced her, right?!
Quickly dropping her gaze before she lost control and finally gaping at him, Evie pressed her lips tightly as she focused her attention on the couple on the dance floor. He did the right thing.
He should do his best to refuse and keep his distance from her. He cannot dig his own grave by agreeing to everything he asks.
Gavriel fell silent afterwards and the two of them just sat still as a beautiful and voluptuous woman in a low-cut black dress approached them. The woman had long, luxurious looking dark brown hair and her eyes were forest-colored. It could be said Evie, she was probably the prettiest woman at the party, even prettier than a blonde-haired princess.
"Good night, Your Majesty." He greeted and for the first time that night, someone greeted Gavriel with a sincere smile instead of a forced and tense smile. Unlike the others, even emperors and princesses, this woman stared straight into Gavriel's eyes.
He behaved as if he knew her and was more of a close acquaintance. Moreover, unlike others who had greeted her warmly first before her husband, the woman had yet to glance at him.
"I'm surprised that you actually attended the dance, Your Majesty. And since it's so rare for you to attend an event like this, will you dance with me?" he offered his hand in front of Gavriel, causing Evie's eyes to widen for a moment.
Evie suddenly felt something inexplicable inside her and she failed to hold back from looking at Gavriel with questions in her eyes.
He regretted his impulse because as soon as he saw, Gavriel also looked at him and just like him, he seemed to ask as well. Even though their questions were completely different, he might ask her permission and she asked who the woman was.
He bit the inside of his lips. For some reason, his brain was left behind and while he was stunned for a moment, Gavriel looked at the woman and spoke.
"This is my wife" Gavriel introduced and finally, the woman turned to face him.
"Evielyn," Evie managed to say.
The woman blinked and then smiled at him.
"It's good to see you, Lady Evielyn. I'm Thea. I'm His Majesty's fiance."
Evie tried hard to maintain her calm expression. A fiancee? So that's why they're so relaxed with each other. Before Evie could answer, Thea spoke again.
"I'm sure it won't be a problem for you if I dance with Your Majesty, right?" he asked, and Evie had no idea why she suddenly had the urge to clench her fists tightly.
"Of course not, Miss Thea." He said without glancing at Gavriel.
He did not see how the man's face became several levels darker with his approval.
Thea smiled and the next moment, Evie noticed Gavriel's back as she followed Thea to the dance floor. The dancing couples even provided a spacious place for them in the middle of the spacious ballroom.
