Dacria, the northernmost city of the vampire kingdom is no stranger to Evie.
A few months ago, Evie had seen a map of the Northern Empire and this place called Dacria had attracted her interest.
That was because it was the only place in the entire empire that seemed to have nothing there, but was an ice-covered wasteland.
When Evie asks her father if anyone lives in the place, he is shocked when his father tells her that it may be the most formidable place in the entire vampire kingdom.
He had told her back then that they had no other detailed information about this place since no human had ever set foot there.
He then understood that the reason why the estate had become a blank canvas on the map was due to the lack of intelligence that humans had about it.
Lucius had thought of some worst-case scenarios and considered Dacria a place they needed to take seriously, perhaps more so than the capital of the vampire empire, he said, because he has a sneak suspicion that it will be the last area they must visit.conquer to destroy the vampire kingdom.
Hearing Gavriel mention Dacria as a safe place makes Evie swallow.
He remembered what one of the human generals had said about the place. He had mentioned that vampires could hide something in them.
Something they could only call a terrible secret and that was why all this time, no human had ever set foot on that land.
He also heard that no spies tried to infiltrate the city of Dacria hundreds of years ago and even until now have ever returned alive.
Recalling that made Evie involuntarily tense up and her heartbeat suddenly increased.
He wondered what made him call a place that no human had ever seen a safe place for him.
What's hidden there?
Gavriel seemed to feel a slight change in him and he stopped.
Carefully, he dropped it off and he found himself sitting on something hard.
He pulled his hood to see more clearly his face.
Her hair was wet, and it seemed like she had just wiped her face with the tip of her sleeve.
Her wavy hair and the velvet coat she wore provided a clear contrast to the snow-white background, making her look extremely beautiful and not like a divine being.
"What's wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" he asked, looking for something on his face to give him a clue.
Evi gnashing. He struggled to turn away from her and look around.
"I'm fine. I just don't understand why we go, no... why do we like running away from something.... or someone?”.
Gavriel ruffled her hair as if to dry it. He then showed a crushing smile to her.
"Yes. We're running away."
He leaned forward, narrowing the distance until their faces were only a few inches apart from each other.
"My castle in the capital is no longer safe for you, so I have to take you away."
"W-why?"
Reaching out, he held onto his hood as he looked into his eyes.
"Be nice. I'll explain everything to you once we get there, Evie." He said before pulling his hood down again to cover his head and face completely before quickly lifting him up.
He then started to jump, a little slower than before.
"Don't worry, Dacria is a safe place. Much safer than the capital." He added but Evie was still not convinced.
"But I hear humans aren't allowed there." He muttered and Gavriel paused for a moment but then jumped again.
"Yes. Humans are not welcome there." He raised it higher until his lips seemed to be stuck near his ears.
"But you're the exception, Evie."
He flinched away, no matter that they were currently in the air. His eyes were round and wide with questions.
"Why?" Gavriel tilted his head slightly as he landed on the ground.
"Because you're my wife." She answered the truth before continuing to jump forward again, leaving Evie speechless.
And then, he felt like they were going through another storm again.
As Gavriel stopped, Evie shivered in the relentless cold.
It seemed that this place was colder than the Dark Valley because the same thick clothes he had worn before around him were now not quite able to protect him from the cold, either, in addition to protecting it from direct contact ice and snow around them.
"We're up." He heard her say. He had lowered it, but his hands remained firmly on his back.
Evie raised her face and what greeted her was a gigantic fortress that seemed to be made of black stone. It was so tall and huge that he could not even see its peak.
While he was amazed at what he saw, the thud coming from behind them caught his attention.
When he turned to look back, Gavriel's men were there too.
They look messy. It was as if they had just returned from a bloody battle.
The only thing was that they had no injuries to them.
Gavriel stared into their eyes in silent communication before the gate opened for them.
The vampires who welcomed them had the same atmosphere around them as Samuel.
They all emitted powerful and terrifying auras that could be felt very clearly. They all seemed to be the guards of the fortress.
Any human who tried to infiltrate this fortress would definitely be cut down or destroyed within seconds at the hands of this powerful being.
It seems that Gavriel came unannounced and that's why the vampires were a little panicked.
But Gavriel calmed them down and told them that there was no need to call the authorities to report his arrival.
"I have to get my wife into the castle now. Samuel, I leave the rest to you." He said and with that he gathered Evie and jumped again. It didn't take long before he let her stand.
"Elias, tell the waiter to prepare a hot bath for my wife." She heard him say and then she pulled back her hood.
Evie would flinch in shock at the sight of the luxurious room she was carrying, but she was too cold to notice her surroundings at this moment.
As Gavriel helped her remove the thick coat, there seemed to be a commotion behind her.
The servants moved very quickly, and he realized that they were not human.
Gavriel also took off her gloves and held her hands between her gloves.
Her large palm felt warm in the cold hands of the woman.
"Let me warm your hands while you wait for your baths to be ready," her large, warm hands rubbed her hands, trying to create more friction.
When he blew his hand, Evie almost flinched. He stared at her through her long, dark eyelashes.
"Is it warmer?" his voice suddenly sounded deeper than usual. And Evie couldn't answer.
He blew his hands while looking at her, rubbing his hands at the same time carefully. And he felt the ice melt.
"Everything is ready, Your Majesty." A voice broke the silence and Gavriel innocently stopped, but still did not let go. He nodded at the waiter and then looked at Evie.
"Evie.." her voice was soft.
"There are no human servants here to serve you." His gaze at her probed, as if trying to understand what she was feeling through her facial expressions and body language.
When Evie tensed up, she seemed to immediately understand and after glancing at the servants, they all left the room.
The thought that the vampire waitress would take care of him was ..it was something that even Evie could not have imagined.
"It's okay." He persuaded.
"I know you won't be comfortable with them. Don't worry, I'm here."
Evie blinked her eyes, feeling the tempo of her heartbeat increase. 'He couldn't possibly mean as I thought he said, right...?' his mind was screaming inside.
"Because there is no choice" he said as he began to take off his coat.
"I'm the only one left to help you."
