When Evie finally regained consciousness, it was morning and there was a bright beam of sunlight streaming down from the small gap in the curtains.
Gavriel was already in the room when he came out of the dressing room.
However, he only glanced at her and refused to look at her after politely thanking her for saving him.
She had put on a mask of impeccable calmness and went on to inform her husband very formally that she wanted to be left alone when the man tried to strike up a conversation with her.
Still, he never glared at her, nor was he angry at her sudden coldness towards him.
But one could see the sour look in his eyes as he looked at his wife longingly.
Even while eating, Evie continues to be indifferent to Gavriel.
His gaze never lasted more than a second and he answered all his questions briefly and monotonously perhaps until Gavriel stopped talking to him as well.
When she told him to leave her alone for the third time, her husband never came to their room again.
And then, three days passed so quickly. It was probably the most excruciating day of his life.
He had blamed himself and his heart for being so easily and quickly fascinated by it. He had put himself into that nightmare event and was about to die from being so jealous.
He believed that it was all his fault for being so stupid. And she even thought that it might be a warning sign to her that falling in love with her would only bring disaster to her.
He's known it all along. Right, legally she was her husband, but at the same time, she was also her enemy.
When that day comes and her father will save her and invade the vampire kingdom with his dragon, she and her husband will be forced to fight each other.
He could not imagine what would happen if that day came, and he had already fallen deeply and madly in love with her.
Falling in love with her will result in nothing but a broken heart and hell and a curse in the end.
Because there was no way he could betray or turn his back on his family and the rest of humanity for him. So, all he could do now was lock himself inside his own wall and harden his heart, if that was all it took – even if it ended up killing him.
"Good night, Madam." Fray and Gina bowed, and she nodded lethargicly at them.
He had turned his gaze to the window and sighed so deeply as they left.
Wearing a clean white nightgown, Evie got up and was about to walk towards the window to get a better view of the moon when she felt rather than hear the door open.
He thought his servant had forgotten something but when he turned to look, a pair of silvery eyes illuminated by moonlight met his eyes.
He stood frozen, as if just looking at it would paralyze him.
He was wearing all-black clothes and his hair was ruffled with great interest.
He could not help but recall the scene as he stood amidst the pile of dead beasts as they crossed the Valley of Darkness.
The only difference this time was that his clothes were not splattered with that unknown black and green liquid and his eyes were not blood red.
The worse thing for him was that the roughness of his appearance made him look even more amazing in his eyes. There was curiosity tickling in his mind, wondering where he had been for the past three days so he didn't see it.
Evie had to clench her fists and inconspicuously press her nails into her palms to distract herself from thinking useless thoughts as she began to think that she must have spent her days with her fiance and busy with whatever arrangements they have agreed with his fiancee.
"I'm back," he said. Her voice was soft and gentle compared to her disheveled and mischievous appearance.
She takes a step closer to him, but Evie stays glued to his place, not moving and just follows him with her eyes.
Taking off his coat, his eyes watched him for a moment.
"Are you okay now, wife?" he asked softly, a sincere glimmer of attention flashed in his eyes.
He clenched his fists tighter.
Why is she so nice to him?
How could he…
Gritting her teeth, Evie frantically thought about what she should do. He could not help himself if this continued.
The kindness of her husband and the betrayal of her heart would erode her desire to stand firm in her decision not to have feelings for him.
"Yes...Yeah, I'm fine. But I still want to be left alone."
A deafening silence followed as Evie begged him inwardly for him to quietly leave the room again.
But this time, he didn't. A deep and long breath came out of his lips.
"I'm sorry, but I won't listen to you this time, my wife. I never believed that leaving you alone was a good idea. Let's talk, Evie." His voice softened as he bowed closer to her while he took a step back.
However, his reaction no longer stopped Gavriel as before. He stepped forward, keeping their close distance as he continued speaking in a hoarse but gentle tone.
"Tell me what's up. Did I make a mistake? Tell me, Evie."
Evi gulped with great difficulty. He could feel the heatstroke of tears right behind his eyes, threatening to spill at the first sign of more attention and attention on his part.
The aroma and warmth of his breath pierced through him like the most delicious wine and it took everything he had to retreat and retreat.
Warning bells began to ring in his ears, and the walls he had built around his heart with great difficulty with blood, sweat, and tears were already threatening to collapse.
He knew it would only require a little more thrust and his defense would collapse like a deck of cards dropped by a gust of air.
Fear, reckoning, promise, thought, and determination all began to tremble like dandelion seeds that would be scattered by the wind, threatening to leave nothing but the full burden this man had on his senses.
The panic of giving up forces Evie to explode.
"There's nothing wrong Gavriel! Just ignore me and go to your fiancee and spend the days there with her as you please!"
Gavriel was speechless, clearly shocked by his words.
"You think.." he stopped.
"You think I've been with Thea for the last three days?"
"Yes! Didn't you? Don't tell me you're so embarrassed to deny it after being able to do it? Don't try it because I already know she's the one you really want to be your wife for!" he sneered as his words came out of his mouth, pouring out the pain stored in his heart for days.
He knew he had exceeded the limit, but he could not hold anything back after his dam burst.
"What makes you think" Gavriel is shocked by the pain reflected in Evie's eyes and the apparent sadness she hears in her voice so she can't continue her thoughts.
"While I was in the forest alone – homesick and injured – what are you doing? You cheerfully sat there with her and the general, talking and planning your beautiful wedding! But it's okay. I don't give a shit! You can go back to her now and marry her soon. Because she is the woman you love and need! So leave me alone. I'm sure three days isn't enough for you."
His outburst of anger remained in the air, like a stark thing, waiting to be dealt with.
He had just thought of provoking her so that he would leave her alone again. That, and also to stop him moving closer to save his wall from collapsing.
He did not expect himself to finally reveal all the pain and distress that was welling up in his heart and utter all of it with real hatred. It all came out before it was even recorded in his mind.
Evie herself, shocked by the depth of her own feelings and grudges so much that she did not expect the things she said would reverberate so deeply within her.
A heavy silence prevailed among them. Evie was speechless as she looked at her eyes and her offended expression.
His eyes suddenly looked like they were frozen, and this was the first time he had allowed his eyes to turn that cold while looking at him.
