The Handcuffs

“So, you want to die? Huh!” Sahut Basri while gripping the neck of Winsi is very strong.

“Pak! No, Sir!” Pekik Runa while trying to pull her husband's hand from her son's neck. But there was more to the man than he had until he failed.

“Mas!” Said Nira patting Basri's shoulder gently and at once the man turned his head while loosening the grip of his hand on the neck of Provinsi. “I have a good way to let him kapok!” he said again while glancing at Winsi.

“Where?” Basri asked as he moved away from Winsi who was holding his neck while coughing. Runa calmed her down while hugging her.

Basri approached Nira and the girl whispered something then, Basri nodded her head, with a breath that was still hunting for holding back emotions.

“Yes, you are right, than to dirty my hand, can the length of the business later.” Basri said as he walked out after grabbing the keys to his truck, Nira followed later.

Runa and Winsi let Nira and Basri go, to a place unknown to them. The mother and son went to the back room after closing the door.

Runa continuously calmed her son, stroked his head and rubbed the neck of Winsi, who was reddened by her father's actions. Repeatedly he told her to eat because since returning home from school not a mouthful of rice entered his stomach.

After entering the prayer time, both of them perform congregational worship, asking for strength and the best way out. After that, they had dinner. But not yet finished eating, the mother and child heard the knock on the door.

How shocked Runa was when she opened the door, she saw two policemen standing straight in front of her, putting on a serious face.

“What's up, Sir?” ask Runa.

“Is it true here the home of Ibu Runa Umaya?” ask one of the police.

“Yes, myself,” replied Runa with furrowed eyebrows she felt confused, why there were two policemen looking for her because she felt she had done nothing wrong.

“We're looking for a boy named Winsi Nisria, does he exist, Mom?”

“There, He's my son why yes, Sir?”

“We will take the child to the police station right now, for questioning because we get reports that Mom's son committed theft of valuables belonging to someone named Nira.”

“What?” Runa did not believe what she heard so shocked that she even gaped, but immediately covered her mouth with both palms.

‘How could he possibly report my son to the police? That means they went to report my son and now have to be in jail just because the complaint isn't necessarily true? It's outrageous! Look out for you Nira ... Basri, I will leave you as soon as possible!’

Runa thought about a saying that said that blood is thicker than water, blood ties will not be destroyed forever then, what happens now? Is that true, but why is this bond between Basri and Winshi liquid? Why does he have this kind of heart, is he the only one who has experienced it or is there someone else?’

Runa was still glued in front of the two Policemen, when Winsi came out of curiosity. The girl was surprised to see a police officer who came to visit at night.

“What's up, Mom?” he asked without any suspicion.

“Is this a child named Winsi?” Still talking to one of the policemen at the door staring fixedly and then, took out a handcuff from his pants pocket and held it out in his hand.

“What is this Sir?” runa asked while preventing the police from handcuffing her Winsi— handcuffs. However, the policeman glared sharply at him and continued to lock.

“Mother ...!” wininsi's face reddened, staring at Runa with tears already rushing down her cheeks, a strong desire to keep her from flowing turned out to be in vain

This time the estranged and excluded are different whack in his heart, not the same as when facing his father's belt. However, the fear of facing the two policemen, with his hands tied was like being in a dark cave and he was alone surrounded by various poisonous snakes. How horrifying.

‘I'm innocent!’ his screams were deep in heart, but his lips were tightly locked. While his entire joints were shaking as if standing on a piece of rope.

“Pak! My son is not wrong! Who said he stole! That guy lied!” Runa again shouted hysterically his eyes had been flowed by a river of tears.

“I'm not stealing! I'm not stealing! Mother ...!” finally Winsi had the strength to wriggle after seeing her frail mother tear up.

While the two policemen had pulled the skinny body of Winsi to the yard of the house to be lifted into the car they were carrying.

“Pak, wait!” Call Runa to follow the steps of both the police and his son. “Actually I'm the one who stole Miss Nira's bracelet not my son!” nira said defending Provinsi, sacrificing himself for the sake of his son can live freely and uncontaminated in the eyes of the community and in the eyes of the law.

After all, his son still had a long future, let alone he had just set foot in his first advanced school. As a mother she thought it was better for her to be sacrificed, than for her teenage son to live in prison.

“But, Ma'am, according to the complaint Mother Nira who is at fault is your daughter.” One of the policemen said.

‘Not, this is not a lie but the honesty of the heart of a mother who wants to protect herself and her child's future!’  batin Runa while shedding tears.

“Good! Then the mother we caught and had to give the same information later in the office!” The police said again.

“Good, Sir!” said Runa while nodding and handing her hands over to handcuff.

The neighbors who lived not too far from the family residence Basri, came to see the crowd created. Of course they were astonished because they did not think that Runa and who were famous for being friendly and also diligent in working and well in the community, were now detained by the police.

During the walk forward until he reached the car, Runa kept her head down and covered her handcuffed hands behind her veil. Shame and disappointment become one in his mind clearly visible through the look of his face that is still wet and damp because of too much crying.

The woman cried hysterically to see her mother taken away by the police for defending and saving her. The neighbors tried to calm her down, but to no avail, they ended up just letting the girl herself in her house make lonely friends and cry.

*****

Runa looked at the two people sitting in front of him, because from their behavior he had to replace his Winsi— position. She was not willing to leave her son at night alone. But he was more unwilling when his son who had to languish in iron bars as a prisoner.

Yes, Runa is now in a temporary detention house at the local police station, she must remain there for the duration of the trial, or until she gets a court decision on not the criminal she committed.

Evidence, self-confession and witnesses, everything that exists makes it impossible to avoid the entanglement of the law. Unless he has a lawyer and is able to prove his innocence. He will get his freedom back.

The two people who were in front of Runa were none other than her own husband and Nira who looked at her with a triumphant look.

“Why do you want to replace your son?” ask Basri. Hearing her husband's words, made Runa smile mock herself if she had a husband who turned out to be so stupid that she was willing to sacrifice her own child.

“No, I did not replace him, I am indeed the thief!” said Runa flatly without seeing the two people who were in front of him.

“You heard, Mas? We should have complained about the two of them so we could go to jail together,” said Nira annoyed.

“Do you think any mother would want her teenage son to have a long future in prison? Are you crazy sir?” sahut Runa with a burning gaze.

He knew that Basri had never believed in himself and would never admit that Winsi was his own son, but, he did not expect that, his actions could go so far.

Runa had always felt a great love for Basri, it was this man who helped her when she had nothing, when she needed shelter and shelter. He promises to love with all his heart and do whatever Basri wants as long as he can live together.

However, gradually the feeling eroded especially when she first saw her husband behaving so sweetly towards Nira, the great trust in her husband instantly disappeared.

He had endured all sorts of suffering for the sake of his little family. However, when he feels betrayed because of a woman then the thick feelings of love evaporate just like that.

An ant will bite if it is always disturbed. Patient hearts can get bored if they continue to be hurt. The person who is silent and sincere will eventually scream if he is constantly betrayed.

“So, you're not wrong, have taken my bracelet?” ask Nira.

“Serah!” sahut Runa doesn't care.

He felt it was useless to defend himself because he did not have a lawyer. If he said anything that was true, neither the police nor the two people in front of him would believe it because, he could not prove that he and his son were innocent. She knew it was Nira's reasoning to get them out of her husband's house.

“Yes, already, Mas ... he has ngaku, really. So he must be in jail.” Nira said while standing up, but Basri remained seated and looked at her sharply.

“Runa, listen .. I'm doing this so you and your son can't be. Do not do this shameful thing again.I did not expect all this time to live with you and raise a thief! CK!” basri.

“Tega you, Sir! He's your son! I could have sworn I had no contact with anyone other than you!”
