Perplexities
Winsi entered after saying his greetings and looked at his mother with a complicated expression. He raised his shoulders and said, “I met this Tente on the road, he just asked for our home.” Giving a statement to Runa as if she knew what her mother was thinking, why would she be with the woman after school?
After that, Winsi went to the room to change clothes, while crossing the room of his parents, he had a glimpse of the door that opened, his father was sleeping soundly. Basri is always so when he is at home, he will satisfy himself with sleep, as if vengeful and want to vent his whole heart.
After changing clothes, he stood on the side of the parapet between the living room and the dining room, he saw his mother Runa— and Nira, the uninvited guest sitting opposite each other.
Apparently, when Winsi was changing clothes earlier, the two women had become acquainted and mince words because the conversation she heard the next Province was serious questions from Runa.
“So, your name is Nira? Have you known Mas Basri?” asked Runa while crossing her legs in a stacked manner.
“Ya, quite a long time too, anyway,” replied Nira flatly, without looking towards Runa.
While Winsi was still eavesdropping on the back of the two women.
“You know, right, if Basri already has a wife?”
“Tahu.” Again, Nira answered Runa's question with indifference.
“Keep, what do you want here bring a big bag, everything. What's in it, you want to move?”
“Iya.”
“To where? Later I wake up Mas Basri to be taken.”
“Not bother, I want to move here.”
“What? Just yummy. This is not your Father's house!”
“But, this is Mas Basri's home, right?”
“Indeed, what is your relationship with Mas Basri?”
“I'm his sister ..?”
“Adik ...? Huh!” Runa looked away while smiling disdainfully. How can this woman who does not look like her husband claim to be a sister. It would be inappropriate for a sister to be so disrespectful to her brother-in-law. This is so annoying.
Winsi looked at it with annoyance, he secretly clenched his little fist. He doesn't know what it means to be jealous, but he knows how to be kind to others, especially to older people.
‘Isn't what Aunt Nira did to that mother, inappropriate?’ his inner. No matter how hateful someone is to an older person, still cannot show it because, religion also teaches morality, reason, sincerity, connecting the bonds of friendship, and mutual respect. Even those who do evil are forbidden to repay them with evil.
“If you don't believe, you already do. I'm his sister, just a month ago Mas Basri admitted it!” said Nira later.
Hearing that, Runa smiled mockingly, she would not believe anything Nira said because, she knew very well that Basri had no brothers. During this time her husband lived only with his parents although, there are some relatives or cousins, but they live far apart in different cities.
“So, you're her foster sister so?”
Actually he did not have the heart to disturb Basri's sleep when it was so deep. Because the man often neglects his sleep during work and continues to concentrate on the streets so that, naturally when at home, he spends most of his time resting. But this time is different, there is an urgent matter and, making Runa must make him wake up outside the prayer times which are an obligation.
When he passed Winsi who was caught eavesdropping, Runa only glanced at a glance, without reprimanding. He realized that his daughter must have heard and understood everything until, he did not have to bother explaining the problems that must be faced between Nira, his mother and father.
After a while in the room, Runa and Basri came out simultaneously, while Winsi hid in the room. He was afraid that Basri did not like his presence and went back to being angry or hit.
Winsi busied himself by cleaning up some books that were no longer needed and, put them in a cardboard box. He did all that with his heart still held in curiosity, with the talk of both his parents and Nira. Just heard something vague from the direction of the living room, even some screams from his mother. But he still did not dare to go out of the room for fear of Basri's anger.
Winsi settles down on the bed after all the books and study tables are neat, he is ready to face tomorrow, school with a new spirit and clothes. It was just that he still had to wear his old bag because Runa had not bought a place to carry the book, as he wished.
‘Ya .. The bag can still be used. So there is no need to buy a new’ he thought was entertaining himself.
He knew Runa loved him very much and would definitely buy him that bag someday. His mother had to save up so that they could get away from the house that continued to torment him, so that he would not force for something that was not so important.
Winsi was about to close his eyes when the door opened wide and Nira and Basri entered, carrying a large bag and then, keeping it on the bed. The girl suddenly woke up and immediately stood up to the wall, with a pias face showing fear. This is how he is faced with his father every time.
“Well, Winsi ... From now on Auntie in nira sleeps room with you, yes?” basri said, even that burly hand rubbed his head slowly. Reflectively Winsi took a step back, looking up at his father in disbelief, when the man said softly to him.
“Pak, your child's bed is small just enough for one person then, your child should sleep where if he sleeps there?” the word Runa suddenly appeared from behind the door after wiping away her tears.
Apparently the woman had a dispute with her husband and did not approve of Basri's plan to house Nira, living in their house. For him, Basri was already very confused to do the right thing, not knowing which is right or wrong where the biological child is or not!
The young woman was already considered by Basri as her own foster sister, when she found out about Nira's background which was almost similar to Runa's, having no parents and a place to live. They met a few months ago accidentally in a restaurant and then, the girl said her wish, which is to continue studying at a university not far from where they live. It was with pleasure that Basri took care of him.
“Winsi, is he skinny so he is enough to sleep here both, right Win?” basri said again still with her soft voice and a warm smile at Nira.
There were small ripples flowing gently like calm river water bringing joy in the heart of Winsi, when finding Basri behaving differently, she took a deep breath and removed the fear. He thought there might be some kindness in Nira's presence because he no longer did anything to her.
“Ya,” said Winsi nervously, there was a sense of helplessness veiled from her speech. He glanced at the bed, nodding.
Meanwhile, Runa's face looked gloomy, she only felt sorry for Winsi who couldn't possibly resist the wishes of the head of the family in their home. However soon her daughter will grow up, how is it possible to share a bed with such a small bed size. Again he could do nothing and just stroked his chest.
“But, Mas .. he was right,” Nira said as she pointed towards Runa with her chin. After that he again said, “this bed is small if for both of me the same he ...” This time it points to the town. “What if you want to buy a new bed for me or ... This child moves to another place, is there no room anymore?” he said while convoluted into Basri's arm.
Just the touch of this scene made Runa widen her eyes perfectly. While Winsi was agape, he never saw his mother behave like that to Basri because every time he was between his mother and father, what he saw was Basri's indifference to his wife.
“Alright, for a while Winsi can sleep in the back room which is a warehouse, tomorrow I buy a new bed for you, yes?” sahut Basri poking the tip of Nira's nose.
"Oh my God, is my husband really confused or forgotten?' inner Runa
“What?” runa asked as she pulled her husband's shoulder to face towards her. “Yes, sir, tell your own son to sleep in the shed?”
