A Pack of Warm Rice
Winsi looked at the merchandise and his mother alternately then, smiling. Her mouth was open to answer Runa's question.
“No, Bu.”
“Truth?”
“Ya.”
Usually Winsi only brought the food to be left in a stall near the school and, the money from the sale will be taken the next day, like that every day. But now that he needed more money, so determined to peddle his own food wares, he was sure school friends would buy. ‘Why should be ashamed?’ he thought, because the need is greater than the shame as a teenager.
He knew that if Basri would not pay for his school and he was grateful to be allowed to eat and sleep in the house, if Basri kicked him out, he did not know who to stay with.
Hearing that answer, Runa smiled and gently rubbed the child's head, which was still seriously serving the buyer. Due to Winisi's presence, he wasn't too busy serving buyers.
“Bu, hopefully today can run out of everything, yes?’ winsi said with sparkling eyes, looking at her mother's merchandise, which was only half her, too many people were hungry that morning apparently.
Runa did not answer, but a black sedan stopped in front of the sidewalk. This is too risky because, as far as Runa where he uses to sell is a prohibited area for parking vehicles. Only allowed for pedestrians or police cars on patrol, or other emergencies.
The car's glass window opened slowly and emerged from behind it, a shady face that looked at the two women mother and child pair while smiling kindly.
“What is the rice still warm?” arkan asked, the man then went down after asking and did not get an answer to his question because the two women were just dumbass.
When Arkan was standing right in front of them then Runa replied with a stammer. “Yes, no. All is still warm,” while squeezing a pack of rice that is packaged simply. “Please,” said again.
Arkan opened the package there, he saw the rice wrapped neatly, there was a slice of omelet, a small dried tempeh, and a sprinkling of fried onions on top of it, and separate chili. He smiled as he brought the food closer to his nose, making Runa widen her eyes. He made the food carefully and packed well and neatly, because the merchant who always went to the same place, very much maintain the quality of his trade. Because, if someone sells merchandise with good quality, then many people will become his subscription. Nasi ubuk made by Runa ranasay delicious and savory, there are many employees who are subscriptions.
It would be very different if someone sold merchandise to a passing person who likely did not meet again, and if there was a problem, then such a person, would not care. Unlike Runa, she did not want any problems with the food she sold.
“It, hmm .. delicious. Then I bought it all.” Arkan said then, he was sitting on an empty plastic chair beside Runa. The chair he usually provides for customers who choose to enjoy the rice there.
“Everything, Sir?” Runa asked to make sure her hearing was not wrong. Arkan nodded while enjoying the rice sitting in his hand. Runa was a little surprised by the actions of the man he once liked as a teenager, for what this much rice, he thought.
“Wah ... Right, right, Mom. Our trade ran out fast once today!” Winsi said with excitement, while putting the package by package of rice in a container. Every now and then the girl glanced at Arkan who was still cool to spend rice sitting, simple food made by his mother, he looked so enjoying.
‘Bapak never eat rice uduk artificial ibuk’ inner Winsi by pursing his lips.
Their work was completed, Runa deliberately prepared a special plastic bag for people who buy in large quantities. Now that Arkan bought all the remaining merchandise up, Runa had to divide it into several bags so that the rice package remained neat and easy when taking it back.
Arkan had finished eating shortly after Runa finished packing last, he turned his head and said, “So, how much is it all?” ask her while taking out the wallet from behind the inner pocket of her suit.
“What's the rice good?” Runa tries to provoke Arkan's opinion about his cooking. But the man seemed to furrow his brows then, answering with a smile , “Hmm .. middling,”
“Oh, I don't think it's good,” said Runa.
“Ah, where possible, if not delicious my trading will not run out every day.”
“Oh, so so be it, thank goodness. So, how much is it all?”
‘Why did he buy everything?’ Inner Runa.
“Everything .. so, 100 000,” Runa replied with an unpleasant look on her face, that much money to buy food, is a very large amount according to her. He said without looking towards Arkan who was looking at him with a complicated gaze.
“For what is this much food? You want to work, right?” runa asked when she received a piece of thousand dollars and put it in her wallet.
“Yes, to eat.” Arkan spoke as he looked away and hid a funny smile, then said again after the look of his face became ordinary. “I want to share with my office employees, let them later become your subscription.”
‘Oh. So she had her own office’ Inner Runa while rubbing her arms.
“Oh, thank you.” Runa answered while bowing her head then gave Arkan two plastic bags. The man accepted it and put the package into the car.
Meanwhile, Winsi saw the interaction between her mother and the man before her with a plain face and sparkling eyes, she always imagined a man like Arkan being her father. But anyone who wants to marry his thin mother, his face is ordinary, his appearance is not attractive, always wearing that shirt. Her mother once told me that when she was pregnant and her stomach was getting bigger, she did not have clothes to cover her aura properly. So he had to not sell. Runa was only at home all day because all her clothes were narrow and Basri would not buy her pregnant clothes, arguing that she did not have money.
Despite this, Runa survives and gives birth to her baby safely, however, Basri is her husband and the baby is the fruit of their love. He hoped that things would change for the better after the birth of their child. But hope is only hope, because the man's attitude does not change in Provinsi.
Basri's attitude changed slightly when Runa became pregnant with the second child, becoming so loving and meek that, fate again dragged him into a violent maelstrom, when his son later died of illness.
Currently Runa only needs to be patient a little more, if he wants to part with Basri until, the money he collected is enough to finance the life of himself and his son. Who is strong is constantly treated with hatred and violence.
Allah alone does not allow an injustice and violence to occur anywhere, let alone in man, His most beloved being. That is why there is a heaven and hell that is a reward for humans in living their lives. If man chooses good, then heaven is in return far better than he has done. On the contrary, if man chooses injustice and does not obey religion, then hell is in return much harder than what he has done.
Before entering the car, Arkan took the time to rub Winsi's head while smiling gently at her and the little girl replied with a plain smile typical of her children.
“Thank you, Om!” wininsi said sincerely, he was very grateful to the dashing man.
Arkan nodded, closed the car door and drove his vehicle at moderate speed through the streets.
Winsi's eyes were amazed as to where the car was going, but then he saw another scene at the end of the road that made his heart seem to lose a beat.
“Bu, isn't that Mr?” asked Winsi, while pulling his mother's clothes without letting go of his eyes and looking in a direction.
“Mana?”
