Zeke was embarrassed.
He doesn't know how to write it, that's for sure.
Sensing the awkwardness between the two of them, Hannah broke the silence. "Zeke, you saved our lives. To show you our appreciation, I'll cook you some delicious dishes."
"Thank you Mother."
Hannah smiled, "Don't say that. After all, we are family."
He then beckoned Daniel to walk into the kitchen with him.
Daniel muttered softly, "I don't think it's that simple, what do you think?"
Hannah nodded, "Of course not. Even if Zeke reveals to the Schneider family that the Hamilton family was the one who changed the bid proposal, Lacey will never get a perfect score for it."
"After all, his steel mill was just a small-scale factory. It didn't make sense for him to get a perfect score."
Daniel sank into his mind and asked, "Do you think Zeke knows someone from the Schneider family?"
Hannah replied, "Yes, it looks like that."
"What if you try to see if you can get some information from him?"
Daniel seemed troubled, "How can I do that if he refuses to cooperate?"
"What about you? Maybe you can call him out?"
Hannah said, "Well, it'll be a lot easier if you talk to her directly. How about you get her drunk later?"
Daniel agreed, "Good idea. After all, we have a bottle of Maotai in our house. We can take it out and serve it for him."
Shortly thereafter, a luxurious meal was served.
Daniel took out a precious bottle of Maotai and said, "Zeke, let's have a drink."
Lacey's not too happy. "Dad, don't let Zeke drink too much."
"The Schneider family may ask Zeke and I to meet them later for contract discussions, and it's not good for them to see him drunk.
Daniel reassures Lacey, "Don't worry, I won't let her drink too much."
Lacey told Zeke, "Zeke, my father was a good drinker.
He has a high alcohol tolerance and rarely gets drunk."
"Please don't challenge him about his alcohol tolerance, okay?"
"Don't worry. I know I'm not a drinker as good as your father. I know what I'm supposed to do."
Soon, they clinked their glasses and drank happily.
After half an hour, Daniel was drunk like a skunk. He couldn't even stand up properly.
"It's a shame that worldly life has burdened me. Your mother-in-law was always nagging about how useless I was right now. But deep down, I knew I was swallowing my pride and just waiting for an opportunity to shine."
"Now that you're here, I feel young again."
Zeke did not even look like he was drinking and said calmly, "Dad, you are not that old. I believe you will achieve great things in life."
"I never thought of achieving anything great, but I wanted to set up my own clinic."
"That's not gonna be a problem. Lacey and I can give you some advice; we can make it work."
Hannah did not know whether to cry or laugh.
How foolish. I'm asking you to extract information from Zeke, but you pour out your heart to him. Well, now what? You're drunk like a skunk while Zeke is conscious like a judge.
As for Lacey, a melancholic atmosphere descended on her.
For years, Dad lived in obscurity and silence. He never confided in anyone.
But today he poured out his heart to Zeke about what he had actually felt for so many years.
It seems Zeke does have some talent.
Hannah was getting upset with Daniel's nagging, and she said, "Daniel, I think you're drinking too much. Let's go back to the room and rest."
Zeke stops Hannah, "It's okay, Mom."
"It's not easy for me to support my family. He was under tremendous pressure, and would feel better if he released it from his chest."
Daniel shed tears. "You and I really fit in. I know I can always count on you."
After a while, the Schneider family called Lacey. They invited him to the Schneider residence for contract discussions.
Lacey told Zeke that it was time to leave.
Daniel enjoys his small talk with Zeke but doesn't want to take up their time either. "Zeke, don't worry about that. Just please. We can keep drinking after you're done."
Zeke replied, "Sure, Dad. See you around. Then we can drink it!"
As soon as Zeke leaves the house, Daniel slumps onto the couch and begins his drunken talk, "This kid, he can really drink."
"If only I were younger ..."
Hannah placed a blanket on Daniel while he quietly wiped her tears.
"Why didn't you tell me you were stressed?"
"Huh, it's my fault. All this time I was too rude to you."
"Well, look on the bright side. I'm so glad we can rely on Zeke now. You don't have to work too hard anymore."
