Great Marshals

Great Marshals
Chapter 13

"Well, that's just a position in the bureau" Preston snorted. "I haven't introduced myself, have I? I'm from one of four big families, Preston Douglas. If I wanted to, I could wipe the Hinton family off the earth by snapping my finger."

The Hinton family could only tremble in fear as they did not even have the right to beg for forgiveness from the Douglas family.

As the Hinton family was thinking about what to do, Jeremy acted.

The eldest brother quickly offered Daniel a cigarette.

"Daniel, I'm still your brother... You're not gonna let me rot, are you? I know I'm too close to you. I'm sorry for that."

The others begin to follow in Jeremy's footsteps and begin to plead with Daniel and Hannah.

"He's right, Daniel. You really have become a great future son-in-law! He's the pride of the Hinton family!"

"Things we just talked about ... Yeah, that's so disgusting ..."

"Skye Hans is no match for your son-in-law."

"They're right. Zeke is young and grumpy, but that's a good thing. Help us get on the bright side."

Both Daniel and Hana were shocked.

The couple had been looked down upon by their relatives for years.

They do not know which requests their relatives should listen to first.

When they answered one of them, the other party would smile warmly back at them.

The person with the worst fate among them was Skye Hans.

A man used to stand at the highest point in the group.

Skye begs for Lily's forgiveness, but the woman kicks her aside.

Initially, Lily hopes to use Skye to taunt Lacey.

However, Zeke not only outperforms Skye, the latter even tries to use Jeremy as a shield.

After the party ends, Daniel refuses Jeremy's invitation to drive them back. Instead, she decides to walk home with Hannah.

On the way home, Hannah started crying.

"Darling, what's wrong?" Danial panic.

"We've been married for 30 years, and your relatives have bullied me for that long. Zeke just joined our family a few days ago, and he has helped me a lot ... Even a former prisoner is better than you!"

"I'm sorry, honey. These last few years must have been hard on you..." Daniel apologized.

"Say, do you really think Zeke is a normal person? How could anyone be so scared of Liam George? Could he be hiding his identity?"

"Darling, I think you should stop reading those novels," Daniel laughed wryly. "Things like that can only appear in fiction. If he was truly a noble, why would he suffer in the Clemons family for five years? Plus, he couldn't even pay the three hundred thousand dowry for the wedding last time."

Hannah thought about it and said, "Then, how do you explain the Liam incident? I also remember something else. Didn't Zeke sign a billion-dollar deal with the Schneider family? There's no way the richest family in town would sign it. A deal with Lacey's factory. Could Zeke know someone in the Schneider family?"

After hearing what Hannah said, Daniel slapped his own head. "Really! If I'm not mistaken, the head of the Schneider family went to prison. It was around the same time as Zeke there. Maybe they met each other there?"

"That's most likely the case," Hannah nodded. "Isn't the Schneider family one of the hosts of the Great Ceremony? Since Zeke knows the chairman, can't he buy us a ticket? I mean, if our families could participate in the ceremony, we would be reborn! We can surpass the Clemons if we make it in!"

"You're right! Let's ask Zeke as soon as we get back!" exclaim Daniel.

"Let's call Lacey and tell her to bring Zeke home" Hannah proposes.

Lacey and Zeke have been living in a steel mill for the past few days because Lacey's place is in the same district as the Clemon family.

The two families were close in the past, but ever since Zeke appeared, their relationship broke up.

Lacey was preparing a bowl of noodles in the kitchen to avenge Zeke for his intervention while he waited in the living room, watching television.

"It's nice to have a home" Zeke smiled.

The door opened and Daniel and Hannah entered.

Zeke quickly got up to greet them.

Hannah nodded, "Please, sit down."

Hannah's tone was not as strong as before, but it was also not entirely friendly.

As soon as Hannah sat down, she asked, "Zeke, tell me, how do you know Liam?"

"I once helped remove his kidney stone" Zeke explained.

"That's it..." Hannah could not hide her disappointment. "And here I thought you could give us some tickets to the Great Ceremony."

"You guys want to come in? I can take you there tomorrow if you want" Zeke said.

"Everyone knows the ticket has been all shared" Hannah scolded as she rolled her eyes back. "How are you gonna do that?"

"My presence will be a ceremonial exclamation point. I don't need a ticket."

Hannah chooses to ignore Zeke and walks straight into the kitchen. "Lacey, are you really trying to feed someone your food? Give me the pancakes."

Daniel threw Zeke a pack of cigarettes and walked back to his room, sighing.

A bowl of noodles and a pack of cigarettes. Those things were used to avenge Zeke for what he had done for the older couple.

Although those two things were not important, Zeke was happy with what he got when he ate the noodles.

Lacey tapped on her phone, wiggling her legs. He waited until Zeke finished his meal and said, "You don't mind sleeping on the couch, do you?"

Zeke was about to respond but Lacey continued before she could refuse, "It's decided then."

Zeke stared at Lacey in silence, wondering if her parents knew how naughty their daughter was.

"Lacey, wait," cried Zeke, stopping the woman.

"What's wrong?"

"I'll propose to you at the ceremony tomorrow. You better get ready."

"And the ticket?"

"I don't have it."

"I understand" Lacey laughed.

Zeke could not help but frown. What's with that laugh?

The man then pulled out his phone and sent a message to Lone Wolf. "I'll propose to a normal woman at the ceremony tomorrow. Spread the news."

Lone Wolf replied shortly after. Noted. I'll send someone to pick you up tomorrow.

The whole night passed quietly.

As soon as the sun rose the next day, Lacey was woken up by a commotion outside their home.

He walked out of his room with his eyes still half-closed and saw his parents standing by the window staring out.

It sounded as if something was gathering in their area.

"Mom, what's going on?" Lacey asked out of curiosity.

"Lacy! Comeing! Lookie! Something big is going to fall!" exclaim Hana.

Lacey joined her parents at the window. As he looked out of it, his jaw dropped.

Outside their apartment there were many expensive cars. There were so many of them; they blocked the entire road.

The most important thing is that these cars all have black plates, which means they belong to soldiers.

Everyone peered out the window to catch a glimpse of what was happening.

"Yes God! Is there anyone alive who can move such a large army?" exclaim Hana.

"I heard that the Grand Marshal was going to propose to a normal girl at today's ceremony" Hannah said. "Could these cars be here for the girl? To think that he lives in the same district as us!"

Whahuh? Lacey felt like she had been struck by lightning and turned to look at Zeke.

I'll propose to you at the ceremony.

Zeke's words flashed on Lacey's head.
