Zaya sighed deeply, gathering all the courage within her. He seemed to tighten his grip on the small box he had been holding.
Today is Aaron's birthday, the man who married him has been almost seven years. And yes, at this time she was gathering guts just to say happy birthday and give a gift to her own husband.
Don't say it sounds strange, because in fact, the relationship between the two of them is not like a husband and wife relationship in general. Aaron married Zaya just because of the responsibilities he had to fulfill, nothing more. Zaya never dared to hope for more.
Then now, again Zaya had to fight with her own mind, between having to or not to say hello to Aaron. Because for Zaya, talking face-to-face with Aaron is more stressful than having to face exams when she was in school first.
Zaya's heart suddenly raced faster as Aaron descended from the top floor, where his room was located. With a navy-colored suit that fits tightly wrapped around his body and hair that has been combed neatly, Aaron looks perfect as usual.
With steady steps, Aaron walks accompanied by Dean, his personal assistant. He paused for a moment near the dining table, where Zaya had been waiting for him with anxious expectation.
"Good morning, Pa," said Albern, their six-year-old son.
"Good morning. Continue your breakfast, Papa will go straight to the office, "Aaron replied as he slightly rubbed the head of Albern.
"Good, Pa." Albern answered obediently, then continued his breakfast again.
"Aren't you having breakfast?" Zaya finally ventured to open her voice.
"No," replied Aaron briefly as he passed, followed by Dean from behind.
Zaya then got up from her seat and hurriedly stepped up to catch up with Aaron.
"Aaron wait ...." Zaya subconsciously called Aaron. Aaron halted his steps and turned towards Zaya with a slight furrow of his brows.
"Why?" tanyakanya. Flat and cold as usual.
"I ...." Zaya stopped her steps right in front of Aaron, seeming to have trouble stringing up words.
"You've got two minutes" Aaron said. "And this should be important" Aaron added, just as Zaya was about to say something.
Zaya shut her mouth. Suddenly the courage he had gathered with great difficulty had evaporated somewhere looking at Aaron's sharp but unreadable eyes. Zaya also worried whether birthday greetings from him for Aaron could be considered important or not. Aaron never celebrated his birthday in person.
"I ... I ...." Somehow it was very difficult for Zaya to arrange words into a sentence, as if she was a toddler just learning to talk.
Aaron waited with an increasingly difficult gaze.
"No, sorry .. This isn't that important." Zaya finally abandoned her intentions. He slightly lowered his face to avoid Aaron's gaze.
Aaron let out a slight sigh and resumed his steps towards the car.
"Sorry, Madam. Today you have a meeting with the shareholders, so he is in a hurry. I hope the Madam can understand." Assistant Dean's voice made Zaya again raise her face, and it turned out that her husband's assistant was still in front of her.
Zaya reviewed an awkward smile.
"Oh yes, of course" he answered.
"Then, excuse me, ma'am. Sir's waiting" said Assistant Dean. He bowed his body respectfully to Zaya before finally catching up with Aaron in the car.
Zaya smiled and stepped back inside her house. It was seen that Albern had finished his breakfast and was preparing to go to school with the help of the nanny.
"Darling, it's ready, huh?" ask Zaya for a little chat.
"Yes, Ma" replied Albern.
Zaya approached Albern and slightly fixed the uniform that her son was wearing.
"Let's pick you up, okay?" zaya said while commenting on the sweet smile.
"No need, Ma. Later Grandma will pick up Al, Grandma will also take Al for additional lessons" replied Albern.
Zaya smiled again, although this time it was a little forced.
"All right, sweetheart. Careful." Zaya eventually also let go of Albern to his school, again with a sigh.
Even being close to his own son was extremely difficult for him. Because what Albern did every day was all arranged by someone Albern called Grandma, Zaya's mother-in-law. Yes, Aaron did entrust Albern to be taken care of by his mother rather than Zaya, Albern's own mother. From Albern's baby, Zaya was not involved in taking care of Albern, but Albern drank milk that had been pumped first rather than suckling directly at Zaya.
All Albern's needs have been taken care of without Zaya doing anything. From starting to bathe, feed and invite to play. Each of them was already in charge of doing all that, and they were all certified experts.
Until finally Zaya can only be a spectator without being able to participate in the growth and development of Albern. Zaya realizes, Albern is the next heir of the Brylee Group who must be properly educated in order to carry out the tasks given to him later. That's why he never protested with every single thing Aaron and his mother-in-law arranged for Albern. Although he often looked at Albern with tears from a distance.
Yep. However, Zaya is still a mother who often misses her son. Zaya wanted to be always close to Albren, wanting to hug and kiss Albern like the other mothers did to her son. But that simple thing really felt expensive to Zaya.
Between Zaya, Aaron and Albern, though they live one roof and one family, but there is an invisible dividing wall that keeps them apart. Although close, her husband and son were very difficult for Zaya to reach, as if they were living side by side in a different world. It was difficult for Zaya to get close even though she had tried.
That is how Zaya every day, trying to get closer to her husband and son, although still they become two people who are not touched by Zaya.
And now, after her husband and son left, Zaya stepped foot up the stairs to her room, leaving behind breakfast that she had not been able to start
Zaya entered her room and sat down at the dressing table. Her hand opened the bottom drawer of her dresser. There were five small boxes lined up in the drawer. Zaya put another one there. It was a birthday present that Zaya had prepared for Aaron in previous years since she became the man's wife, but she never gave it to him.
Zaya doesn't have enough courage to show her feelings for Aaron. He was too afraid that Aaron would feel annoyed and angry at him. His deep feelings for Aaron made him weak and only able to accept whatever Aaron gave him.
Almost seven years Zaya has loved Aaron in silence, hoping that one day Aaron will reciprocate his feelings and they become a real married couple. But so far, Zaya has had to accept the fact that both Aaron and Albern are icebergs that Zaya's warmth cannot melt.
I don't know when Zaya will harbour her feelings for Aaron. Zaya herself did not know. For him, every day to see the two angels alone has made him happy. And he doesn't need anything else.
