Jake was startled as he looked at Jacob with apparent confusion on his face. “Why do I do what?”
In a low voice, making sure no one else could hear it, Jacob explained. “Why did you decide to provoke a wild boar without thinking, without consulting anyone in the group? Look what happened, Joanna lost her leg, Jake. We were in a god-abandoned forest filled with monsters that wanted to eat us, and in just a few hours, one of us was paralyzed.
“What do you suggest we do now? Bunker down and hope no one finds us for more than two whole months. Or what, leaving Joanna to die? What exactly is your plan when you decide to shoot into the bush, without knowing what is there? There were others in this forest as well, what if it was one of them? What's wrong with you?”
Jacob's face looked increasingly red as he continued to attack Jake, also getting louder and, of course, attracting the attention of others. Everyone was staring at them now, and looking around, Jake saw hostility open in some of their eyes, with others looking down at the ground. Bertram and Casper were the only ones who were completely neutral, both of them just looking sad. It was next to one person who had no visible emotion on his face, Ahmed. However, he did not seem to want to voice his opinion.
Jake's never seen Jacob this angry before. Right, what am I thinking ? He just saw a shadow of something. In the back, it was a little boar eye. Something in his head told him to shoot. It's just. instinct.
He really didn't think. From the beginning, he didn't do it. Except for his internal contemplation, when facing any kind of battle or tense situation for that matter, he happily ran with the auto-pilot. Letting his instincts take over and intuition become his guiding light when making split-second decisions.
"I'm sorry, I just. I don't know..." Jake is unable to express himself properly, his inability in social situations is once again apparent. On one hand, he felt bad about the outcome of the situation, but he didn't really think it was his fault.
Not taking pictures is also a stupid act. It could be that it was a predator waiting to ambush them or even some kind of trap. Moreover, it was an enemy they could clearly handle. The only reason why Joanna ended up like him was because she messed up and tripped.
“You don't know? Well, you should know! Just think about it for God's sake! We are human beings, not beasts that attack anything we see. Think consequences. We are a group. A team. What would happen if we weren't here? What if you're alone?” Jacob is increasingly upset by Jakes' passive attitude and lack of feedback on his critics. Not because Jake doesn't remember it, but because he doesn't know how to respond.
He was very attentive to that question. What would happen if he was alone? Replaying the fight, he started from the beginning.
He was climbing a tree when the boar came out of the bushes and ran towards him, already out of reach of the beast. Although it made him lose grip for a while, he was never really in danger of falling. The increased stats made him stronger, faster, and he had no problem holding himself back with just one hand. With his stats, he would be able to climb trees easily.
The arrow he fired at the beast produced more than enough damage to make it bleed to death as well in the end. Towards the end, more than 50 arrows had pierced through him, and even if he ran out, he could start juggling more. Eventually the boar will be forced to leave or stay under a tree and wait for it to keep shooting. And judging from his behavior, it would most likely remain until he gave up.
The tree was more than strong enough to receive a blow, receiving almost no damage whatsoever. With his circumference large enough for 7-8 adult men standing holding hands around him, he did not see the scenario where it would fall. So, in conclusion, if he was alone, he would gain solo and TP experience, and no one would be seriously injured, although the fight would take longer.
In addition, Jake has an inherent reluctance to ignore his own instincts and intuition. Like most people, he assumed. While he was in his working life before the system was highly calculating, always taking an analytical and data-driven approach, he also relied heavily on guts. So too with exams at university. He trusted his intuition to an almost unhealthy degree.
When it comes to archery, and almost everything else in life, he prefers to accept everything as it is, believing in his own judgment.
And he felt his instincts and intuition getting stronger after the system came along. Even looking at his performance more objectively in this tutorial so far, he has made no mistakes little or no mistakes. If he is alone, that is.
He has made the correct split-decision choice. With every arrow he shot, he never guessed whether he should shoot or not. What if he hesitated to climb a tree for even a second? He would most likely be sandwiched between a tree and a giant pig.
With how every beast they had encountered so far acted, the little boar would likely attack them in any way, making a fight with the big boar inevitable. The result of his actions might not be the maximum, but he remained steadfastly standing behind him. Killing the little boar was the right decision, and his performance during the fight was as good as anyone could have expected.
“I did what I thought was best, and I support the decision to kill the little boar. Even if it is another human being, trusting anyone, not from our team is a bad idea. His tutor actively encourages us to kill each other, don't forget that,” he started, finding a confidence he didn't know about.
“Jacob, this new reality of ours is a place where magic exists. Joanna's hurt, but she's not in danger. He lost one leg, but who said that it was incurable? With his improved physique, he will recover soon, and maybe we can even try making wooden legs or something for him. Or we can have him guard our camp because he can cast magic. This isn't our old world anymore. People are dead. I'll assume we're lucky because we haven't lost anyone. Seriously, look at the tutorial panel, everything. ”
The last part of his sentence, spoken aloud, was addressed to everyone. Jake himself has also opened the panel:
[Tutorial Panel]
Duration: 63 days & 20:52:39
Total Remaining Victims: 1112/1200
TP Collected: 319
Not even an hour had passed since the beginning, yet nearly a hundred people had died. And Jake strongly doubts that animals are the only cause behind many deaths.
Others were silent, unsure what to say. It's no secret that Jake has been a major contributor to the group so far, doing his best in combat and scouting ahead for potential danger. He even took them away once from the area where Jake felt like a powerful ferocious beast was fighting each other.
Although they have only been here for a very little time, and in just two fights, Jake has shown more than his ability. Even Jacob, the de facto leader of their group, has to admit that Jake is the one who has done the most hard work so far.
“Jake. Consult with us, tell us your opinion before making a move. To not make a decision for all of us ..." Jacob sighed, not wanting to think about the topic anymore. I was relieved to see that Jake didn't mean it either. “Come onward.”
The next half hour went smoothly, Jake was still walking in front with Bertram slightly behind him, and the rest of the group quietly followed in his footsteps. Finally, as the day also begins to get a little darker, Jake hears the subtle sound of water flowing in the distance.
He once again thanked his improved senses and told the group what he heard. Everyone was relieved, and after only five minutes, they walked to the top of the hill and saw a small river flowing down the hill. It was very minimal, only a few meters wide, with a depth of only a few feet, but the source of fresh water is a source of fresh water.
Jake has been juggling more arrows on the road but starts to get a headache. Which symptom is low, it seems, because its mana has dropped to 11/120. Stamina still looks good at 116/140. The maximum has been increased by 10 due to the points in endurance provided by the level rise in its class. Looking at his stats, he was once again reminded of his 4 unfilled free points.
The biggest challenge in the previous fight was his ability to deal damage. Against small targets, his arrow dealt great damage, and he could aim for vital points. Like a boar, a large creature is too big to be affected by a small arrow.
There are weak spots, such as when exposed to the eye, but other weak points are usually protected. It took his whole arrow to drop one big pig, and that was with the help. But he wasn't sure if some stats in strength or agility in any way would allow him to do serious damage. There were too many feathers, skin, flesh, and muscles to pass before he hit any organs.
Saving points seems to be futile as well. After thinking for a while, he decided to put 1 point in strength, 1 in agility, and 2 in perception, just following his class distribution. Looking at his stats, not much had changed, except for points from one level-up and free points.

Looking around, he was clearly not the only one who saw the screen of his menu. The chat started shortly after; everyone was happy to finally have a little security. Nobody talks to Jake, which is fine because he enjoys just listening.
Everyone had gained a level in their race and class from killing on a boar it seemed, Bertram had even gained two in his class. He had already gained a level in his class from his first fight with the badgers, but his contribution against the wild boar seemed to have pretty much kept him clean.
After relaxing for 20 minutes or so, the peace was broken by Jacob who woke up, urging the group not to waste the rest of the day. Dividing tasks, they begin collecting firewood, checking the perimeter, and getting materials to possibly make some basic tools. Theodore had the idea to pick up some vines lying around and possibly make an emergency rope. The vines are very thin, but rather strong, and can be woven together.
The perimeter survey goes to Jake, who ends up killing two more ferrets hiding in the bushes outside the open. They were only level two, giving no level and only 4 TP. Not having enough mana to refill all of his arrows, Casper gives Jake some of his arrows to fill his arrow tubes. After which, he began to spend his own mana to juggle more, effectively acting as a moving arrow factory.
It also allows him to ask Jake for tips relating to archery and combat in general. Although Jake is surprised by his own level of competence in combat, he is more than confident and willing to give advice on how to handle a bow. He had tried to be professional when he was young, although he didn't really brag about it, mainly due to the fact that he had to let go of that dream due to injury. Leaving a little mental scar.
He demonstrated the right shape, suggested aiming, the right movement while taking the arrow from where the arrow was, fitting it correctly, pulling the bow, and finally releasing the arrow, he said, all in one smooth motion. Casper beside him, tried to follow his movements while asking questions back and forth.
Around the two archers, everyone was busy trying to create at least a boneless functional camp, and Ahmed volunteered to try to skin and prepare two weasels that Jake had killed hiding in the open. The goal is to allow them to cook it.
Jake and Casper are left alone with their own antics, spending hours practicing with their bows. As Jake rethinks all of his knowledge of how to use the bow through teaching Casper, he is shocked by the system that suddenly gives him notice.
*Enhanced Skill*: [Basic Archery (Inferior)] – Friend Archer is a bow in his hand and an arrow in the heart of his enemy. Unlock basic abilities with bows, bows, and add minuscule bonuses to the effects of agility and power when using long-range weapons.
->
[Advanced Archery (Common)] – Friend Archer is a bow in his hand and an arrow in the heart of his enemy. You have shown increased proficiency with the bow, making the weapon even more familiar to you. Added a small bonus on the effects of agility and strength when using long-range weapons.
The statistical bonus effect went from very small to small, although Jake still did not know exactly how big the effect was. His bow did not feel more familiar than before, probably because he already felt very comfortable with it.
Casper, despite not gaining any skill improvement, still showed a considerable improvement in his abilities. Even though it was getting darker, there was still less sunlight left in the day, and dinner preparations were still far from ready.
Jake still has a few things he wants to test. Looking at Casper while thinking about what to do, Jake gets a brilliant idea.
