Jake held onto the bowstring as he felt his stamina slowly drain. When he finally released it, the arrow actually exploded from his bow as it crashed into an ostrich. The arrow itself broke into fragments when it was impacted due to the immense force behind it. Not that ostriches fared better.
The arrow hit his neck, effectively blowing his head off. Jake could only smile at the incredible power of his new Powershot skill. The stamina drain was crazy enough when he made the shot like he just did, but it was still very satisfying to do.
However, that skill has many weaknesses. First of all, you need to stand almost completely still when shooting. You can make small movements by twisting your upper body, but taking a step will 'drain' a bit of charged energy and force you to sometimes start all over again, that wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the second big move.
It was a very slow skill to use. It took a few seconds to fill a shot that produced half-viable damage, while it could easily have taken nearly 10 seconds to fire a shot like Jake had just done. The strength of the skill increased exponentially as he attacked, but so did his depleted stamina and general depleted body.
Funnily enough, his high defensive stats turned out to be very useful with the skill. He could imagine if he tried to use the skill after only leveling up to 10 in his class a month ago. He would not even be able to shoot for 5 seconds without his arm giving up.
Earlier in the day, he had tried to do the maximum charging he could. He held it for 12 seconds before his arm gave up just like that as his veins broke, and half of his arm was covered in blood along with his shoulder and upper body which was extremely painful. However, this did show the potential of the skill when the arrow hit the tree that carved a hole the size of a fist into it. The wooden arrow was smashed into pieces by impact, completely breaking out in all directions.
If he could use that skill against a caster manipulating metal, he would definitely be able to pierce through that iron wall, or at least have kinetic force behind the impact strong enough to make the wall crumble. hers. It was a pity that the person did not let him stand still and shoot for more than 10 seconds. Pretty rough, actually.
Checking his notification, he noted that he had placed another level under his belt.
*You have killed [Velocta Ostrich – lvl 24] – Experiences Gained. 4000 TP obtained*
*'DING!' Class: [Archer] has reached level 19 - Allotted stat points, +1 free points*
Leveling became a little slower now, and it ignored the difficulty in finding ferocious beasts. He had not seen a single one above level 25 so far, but he had also deliberately avoided heading further into the forest.
It had been about two days since he met the caster who called himself William. He knew the caster still had to live because he never got the notice for the murder. He wanted to avoid others for now because he still found it too risky to meet others. Williams' squad will most likely result in certain deaths.
So, he leveled the playing field. The current plan was to reach at least level 25 before making contact. It all depended on how long his leveling was, but for now, he had time. Looking at the tutorial panel, he noted that less than a month was left.
Panel Tutorials
Duration: 29 days & 23:17:03
Total Remaining Victims: 389/1200
He said it was less than a month, but it was still almost a full month - a lot of time for a lot of things to happen. A month in the dungeon earned him a profession, leveling up 44 times, evolving once, and even developing his race twice. Oh yeah, and he met a god.
Jake is still worried about his comrades, but if they live to this day, he sees no reason to rush to their side. If they don't survive .. he'll process it when the time comes.
His level naturally also came with a skill at level 15. Jake honestly didn't expect anything and thought of leaving with the basic tracking skill he passed at level 5 over a month ago. The logic behind it is to try and use it to find his comrades when the time comes.
He also considered getting a brief use of the double base. Jake prefers to use a weapon in each hand more than just one dagger. So when he finally leveled up and saw his options, he left with a new option that was definitely a welcome addition.
[Basic Twins Taring Style (Rare)] – Twin fang style is a fighting technique using two ancient swords. Fighters of this style prefer shorter weapons and do not shy away from using suffering to defeat their enemies. Unlock basic abilities in the Twins Taring Style and add a small bonus to the effects of agility and strength when using a snug melee weapon. Provides increased bonuses when using melee weapons from the bones.
It was basically a kind of dual-use specialty. How Jake opened it, he didn't know. Perhaps it had something to do with the Blood Spill Dagger made of bones, but it also mentioned the use of suffering, which was very closely related to his profession.
Of course, there was also an entire corner of the Malefic Viper to consider, after all its fangs were easily attributed to vipers. It was not that it was so important in the end, he was just happy with the skill.
As with any other skill of its nature, it comes with a lot of instinctive knowledge. But compared to a rare skill, this one also came with more 'right' knowledge'. It was as if he had thrown a guidebook into his memory, but he still had to study and practice it himself, which he had been doing for some time whenever he had time. But he found that he barely used what he was taught. He only used it to enhance the existing style, if you could even call it that. Right now, he was only acting on instinct when fighting, relying on split-second decision-making above anything else.
Speaking of the other skills he offered, they were all rather basic. One of them even gave off a slight sense of passive danger, which he found rather amusing considering he already had it through his bloodline. He did consider taking it to see what would happen but missed it.
Having acquired other skills that required practice did give him more things to do when not hunting. He had already practiced mana techniques if possible, so doing physical exercise was actually quite good.
His mana manipulation was increasing steadily. He got his inspiration from his spatial storage necklace and learned how to use mana better intuitively. Using items, however, was not the same as having to manipulate mana on their own. It is as if the system does everything for you. You just have to think about what you want.
On the topic of items, he had gone to great lengths to find more key boxes but ended up with not a single item or token being rare. The area seems to have been entirely explored by other survivors, which is likely also the reason why there are almost no wild beasts left. He remembered before the dungeon that if someone was looking for an animal, you found an animal within minutes. Now he was happy if he saw two small groups within an hour.
Jake knows this means he's gonna have to move out soon. He was hoping to gain skills, either increasing his speed or his defense at 20. Ferocious beasts were naturally none of his business; in fact, he was hoping to meet monsters stronger than he was at the moment since those under 25 were rather dull.
Walking through the woods, Jake still enjoys the atmosphere, something he has most doubts about, considering some war seems to be going on. But he likes it. Perhaps the dungeon cage was still at the forefront of his mind, but he liked how open it was. 'The strange 'eternal bird atmosphere' even looked charming now. Yeah, it's still something. Somehow dodging each arrow easily. He couldn't even use Identifying on them.
As an extension of that, then if he has to mention the one thing he hates about the new world and tutorials more than anything, it is a lack of information. Jake is happy to know so many things. While instinct is good most of the time, it does not mean knowledge is not equally important.
So not knowing anything bothered him endlessly. Not knowing how his parents were or whether they were still alive, the circumstances of his other family members, how the world today looks out. All of this ignores his lack of knowledge about the system and the tutorial itself.
All of this, with him fully aware that he knew far more than most people, he still carried the entire book worth of the library with him. He had neither the time nor the desire to read since leaving the dungeon, but at least he had a choice.
Everyone should be much more in the dark than himself. Unless Jake misses another major event other than the entire ongoing faction war, they should all know nothing about how much everything works. What kind of makes Jake think that for a tutorial, this place really sucks at teaching them anything.
Still, Jake thinks he's okay. A little less well after meeting William's friend, he thought he was pretty strong on average. Looking at this status, it must have also strengthened that thought.

His stats had experienced significant growth, especially his agility and strength, now both were above 100. He had decided to put all his free points into strength and agility, trying to make it to an acceptable level. It was rather sad that his wisdom, his supreme stat a little, did nothing for him in a direct battle. He had the Touch of the Malefic Viper, but he only used it in an emergency because he prioritized using his dagger and bow for now.
He has also collected quite a lot of tutorial points as well.
TP Collected: 313.920
He calls it pretty much but compared to most people in the tutorial, it might suck. By the way, that is another important point in the list of information that he really wants to have. What are the tutorial points used for? The frustrations that he believed he shared with many others in the tutorial.
He also made a mental note that he had not slept since he left the basement. He had made it a habit just to meditate to restore stamina and mana, partly because of the weakness that comes from sleep. It took him quite a while to mentally filter out the constant feedback from his ball when he just wanted to rest his head. However, at the same time, he did not want to completely cut off the outside world, leaving himself vulnerable.
Instead, he somehow managed to lower the ball down just to his instincts. It was still active, and he had once woken up from his meditation when a savage beast approached. The ball has reached a radius of about 15 or 16 meters by now. It was much stronger closer to him than farther away.
Where most of the growth is found is its ability to also sense mana. After his first level 10 evolution, he could sense something faintly, while now it was almost his habit to detect it.
After sitting and meditating for several hours, both his mana and stamina recovered completely, and his health points also managed to regenerate passively.
One oddity Jake notices with the way health works is the interaction between toughness, vitality, and to a lesser extent, endurance. While vitality improves health and regenerates health, it does not mean that they increase 1 to 1. A person with 100 vitality and 1000 health would take longer to regenerate than 1% HP than someone who only had 10 vitality.
Toughness makes this process slower. With higher toughness, health is increasingly difficult to lose as the body's endurance increases. But it is also increasingly difficult to heal the now harder body. Jake also found that endurance does make the body a little more durable, but far from toughness. He wasn't quite sure how exactly it made him more durable, but it was obviously doing something .
Oh, there's something else that just got on the list of information that I hate so much for not having, Jake thought. If the system would be so good as to just send it a spreadsheet on how the statistics work exactly, it would be amazing.
Eliminating his feelings of frustration, he got up, recovered completely, and started hunting prey once again. It was dark, but it did not affect him at all. He doubted it actually affected anyone right now, as most would gain a much higher perception just from the level of race.
However, those ferocious beasts were still tame at night, making fights more manageable, but finding them more difficult. At least they sometimes make loud noises during the day.
As he walked, his ball continued to observe his surroundings as he practiced hovering the pen over his hand. Floating was quite easy; the difficulty lay in keeping it tethered to his hands as he moved.
After more than two hours, he finally found a ferocious beast, and when he identified it, he could only smile.
[Steel Pigs - lvl 28]
The large pig has been transformed from Irontusk into a Steltusk wild boar. That relatively linear tree of evolution happened there.
This was naturally an evolutionary version of the first level 10 beast he had ever fought. He felt a strange excitement when he looked at her. This was his first real challenge in the tutorial, and back then, he had faced it along with his entire group of colleagues. They win after Jake empties his full tube inside the animal. He hoped Joanna somehow managed to stay alive. Jake realizes how much of a jerk he was back then, and not just for him, but almost everyone. He felt a lot of regret from the way he handled things. Not leaving them and going his own way, but how he left.
Shaking his head, Jake dispelled the thought. He should not think about the past that he cannot change. He could only move forward and achieve more power. Only then could he reunite with them. And there is no harm in enjoying the process a little…
With a smile on his lips, he pulled a bone dagger in one hand and an early dagger for the archer in the other. Maybe this beast will finally give him an exciting fight…
