As he closed his status window, Jake momentarily lost his way. He had been in that zone for two weeks, doing alchemy every waking hour. Her first interaction with another living being for over two weeks was with an ancient being with great power who ended up giving her a very powerful blessing, along with a pleasant conversation for several hours.
Now, however, he had to get back into it. Frankly it would be a little embarrassing if he ended up dying from the poison weeks after receiving the blessing from the serpent god. On that note, they did not speak at all about how to cure him. Jake did not ask, and Viper did not provide any information. They had an unspoken agreement that it would be. well, boring.
But Viper did give something away, as she thought back to the one solid piece of advice Malefic Viper had given her. To focus on where. He knew where it was necessary for all the brewing and brewing he had done; it was easily the most important aspect of the craft process.
However Viper did not mention anything about alchemy. He talks about feeling it around him ...
Closing his eyes, he could still feel the mana that had always been around him. Jake never thinks too much about it, like how someone would stop kissing him if someone lived with a certain smell for a long time. The same thing happens with where. If it's just something that's there, you never notice it. Maybe it was a mistake.
Sensing where it was was easy, his Sphere of Perception made it easier. Jake's just not sure what he should do with those feelings. Moving his hand, he could vaguely sense the mana sprained from where his hand was, but otherwise completely unaffected.
Did Viper just mean for him to try and feel it more? No, it's not possible. Does he then suggest manipulating or controlling it? But Jake doesn't have the expertise for that. He did possess some skills to manipulate mana through alchemy, but it was very specific.
While doing alchemy, he made use of the small runes in the mixing bowl. He has to control the mana in the bowl through it. It could be said that the bowl itself serves as a joystick, whichever hand controls it.
Jake saw no way to manipulate mana in the mix without these runes.
Jake goes on to try the whole 'believe-quite-hard tactic', but it produces nothing after an hour of trying. But he refused to give up. Viper may be a little unstable in many ways, but she doesn't think Jake is a liar. A little joking perhaps, but he had a serious look in his eyes when he gave advice.
Instead of trying futility, he decided to immediately test out his new Alchemy Flame. Like all other skills, it comes with an instinctive knowledge of how to use them. Raising his hand and opening it, a small flame appeared, wobbling in his palm.
The heat is low, but so are the expenses. The most surprising thing was the color of the flame. It is almost entirely colorless. If Jake pours more mana into it, the intensity and heat increase per mana use.
While playing with fire, he found that it could cause him injury, but only when he poured out the maximum mana he could while holding his hand on the fire for a long time. In other words, offensive capabilities, at least in the current stage, are almost non-existent. It's not the purpose of the flame to begin with.
As he continued to experiment, he saw something through his ball. When he poured more mana into the fire than it could contain, it seeped out from the side of his hand, slightly affecting the mana around him. A light bulb exploded in his head as he got a revelation.
He could not move the mana around him, but he had many ways to move it himself. When he used Cultivate Toxin, he always poured mana directly from his hands into the plant, and when using his crafting skill, he naturally poured mana into the bowl.
So, what if he moved mana, not according to the skill pattern, but just as an attempt to influence his surroundings? It was strange that the thought was unthinkable to him before, but in his defense, the concept of moving invisible power was not a natural thing for him.
A few hours later, he did not find much progress, but he had some progress. It was still early, but he felt he could slightly move the mana of the atmosphere by using his own as a catalyst. Currently it was extremely inefficient, mana actually flowed out of it. But he slowly learned and developed.
A large mana pool was naturally a great help, and his will increased his regeneration to a level where he could maintain his training for quite a long time. Downing the mana potion, he decided that he could not practice using mana all day. After all, he had to guard against alchemy.
He was starting to run out of mana potions, so he decided to start with it.
His preparation stage was ordinary, but he started to sense some faint differences when he started the mana injection section. Apart from his brief training, he could already sense that his control was slightly increasing, although it might also have something to do with the increase in his stats and his new profession.
The fact that he made the most accessible type of potion that was also closest to pure mana manipulation also played a role.
He had developed his profession, he had earned huge bonuses everywhere, and he finally felt it was time to make a final push to clear this dungeon. His theory of how to cure poison is still in its initial iteration, but it continues to evolve.
What was in front of him were the days of grinding and training. If this plan worked, he wouldn't have left early, which gave him two weeks of intense leveling.
Hard work is ahead of him, and with his life at stake, Jake can only smile with satisfaction. This new world might be a little chaotic in many places, but it was definitely more interesting.
While passing through the camp, the two newly discovered lovers had a light chat. Towards the workshop, they greeted The Smith, who was currently working hard towards the evolution of his own profession. The man had already achieved his class upgrade. Jacob and Caroline both agree that she will likely be the first with classes and professions enhanced from what she does.
“Hei Smith, how do you work? Any progress on Casper's cutting edge?” Jacob asked as he got closer.
The bearded blacksmith raised his head from the workshop as he grumbled. “No bothering. Did the boy make them. Ask him."
Brief as always , Jacob thought, turning to the 'boy' who works in the workshop, next to the man. He has been turning into half an apprentice at The Smith for the past week. A caster who specializes in metal magic. Jacob knew he was also getting his class upgrade but was unsure when, or what evolution specifically meant. All he knew was that the young man had a high level.
Going to the teenager, Jacob asked once more: "Hey Will, Smith told me that he has you made some spearheads for the trappers?"
With a wide smile, the boy looked up from the workshop with his face covered in soot. He raised 10 spearheads or more from the ground with his manipulating skills and lifted them in front of Jacob with great difficulty.
“This is them, Chief! Make them as Mr Smith asked!” he replied, seemingly proud of his trick-taking.
While Jacob kept the tip of the spear, Caroline came forward and began wiping the boy's face with a handkerchief. A gift from Joanna. The boy stood still as he wiped his face clean and healed his slightly injured hand from the small cuts and bruises he had gotten during his craft. As a caster, his defensive stats were slightly weaker than the heavy warrior class of The Smith.
“I've told you to be careful while working in the workshop. I still don't understand why you don't just sew with Joanna, Jacob, and me, or maybe even a leatherworker like most other casters,” he said with a little worry, as the teenager only stared back at his face, it was revealed once again with soot removed.
Jacob hated to admit it, but the boy was probably even more handsome than him. Blonde hair, clear blue eyes, and a bright personality. Not because Jacob felt threatened by his love life. All the women in the camp treated William impartially, like how you treated a younger brother or a boy.
Saying goodbye to the two blacksmiths, he went with Caroline to deliver the spearhead to Casper. Casper worked almost daily on his traps, also taking up the profession of builder. The synergy between the two is frightening.
He built most of his own traps. He had to do so to earn his class bonus, and the construction itself also resulted in experience for his builder profession. However, he could not do everything himself, as he often needed the help of a blacksmith to make weapons.
Casper has completely gone through his trauma of taking another human life. He became close to another archer, a woman, and they had spent a lot of time together. It was until four days ago where a headless corpse was found outside their headquarters. Worse, Casper was the one who found him while he was setting a trap.
His mercy to the other side died that day. Previously, he had mainly tried to set up traps to catch. Now he's just made to kill. Jacob tries to make conversation but is greeted with no response as usual.
The first day after he died, Casper spent the entire day crying and mourning. The second he started to trap like a madman. He even tried to go and fight the other party head-on, but fortunately, they managed to stop him. His hatred, however, seemed to only grow by the day.
Jacob barely managed to get a small grunt out of him when he mentioned Ahmed dying. Jacob was confused as to what he could do. He condemns this tutorial, he condemns the system, and he condemns whatever has started this whole chaotic war that he now finds in its midst.
Caroline, who was aware of her mood as they left the trappers, grabbed her hand to comfort her a little. This helps a little when they walk up to the tailor and sit down. It was a good distraction from madness. Unfortunately, Caroline couldn't stay because she forgot to tell Casper something from Richard, so she left Jacob there.
Returning to the workshop, William worked as hard as he did every day. The stats didn't help him much, but he had the ability to create weapons that were more specific to himself. The daggers are all good and good, but he knows that he can make something better.
The teenager did not initially plan to do the whole profession crap but had to admit that the race level and stats were worth it. Moreover, leveling up his class was simply a waste of time at this point. Even killing other humans for tutorial points seems like a waste of time considering the difficulty of finding them.
He had tried to upset Hayden by killing his son, but somehow it made things worse. The number of people fighting did not increase in number; instead, everyone became psychopaths. He could not even commit the act of 'innocent youth' anymore without being attacked upon seeing it.
William found everything confusing. He thought he had a good understanding of human emotions, but the fact that everyone was going to be completely insane like that was unexpected. He did not understand the intent of torturing people. Indeed, little torture can be obtained information, but it is evident through some studies that information obtained through torture is unreliable.
Trying to find more lock boxes is also a waste of time as it has undoubtedly been discovered by now. Wild beasts were also extremely rare. William could find many things below level 25 if he returned to the outer limits of the forest, but the experience from them was very bad.
So William made the best use of this situation. He has taken heart of himself with The Smith and gained tremendous training. This meant that William got a lot of useful guidance early on and improved his profession faster than he expected.
He also managed to improve his social position within the camp. The main healer, Caroline, clearly agreed to it, all the women leading the thriving sewing industry loved it, and now she even has The Smith guarding her.
Currently, almost everyone was on two bases, the beneficial side effects of his small increased efforts, which made his plan to be the sole survivor much more likely. Sure, Caroline, The Smith, and many of the tailors were quite friendly, but unfortunately their existence cost him whatever gifts he would get after the tutorial was over.
As long as nothing unexpected happened, he felt somewhat confident about his plan that worked. Something he was very doubtful about because he did not yet know of anyone who posed a serious threat to his cause.
His mind was cut off when Caroline returned. William looked a bit confused when he came alone. She used to be with her son's toys all the time.
“Hei William, I just came to warn you not to go anywhere close to the enemy camp for now. Richard says it's okay to go out, avoid going too much towards them, ” he said, getting a nod of affirmation from William.
He sighed while smiling at her. “I know you can be trusted. Unfortunately Casper desperately went there alone to set some traps between our two camps...O gosh, how many tutorial points do you think he has collected? He definitely gets a high level as well, so I hope he can return safely.”
"Okay, I promise to stay away from there if I go," William replied with a big smile. A small glint in his eyes as he had just made a mental note about his next prey.
Caroline leaves him to keep working as she takes a short trip past Richard. A bitter expression on his face the entire time. Entering the cabin, he spread his hands as a transparent barrier covered the two of them.
"Done. William will chase Casper,” he said while trying to keep looking calm.
“Good work, Caroline. I know you don't like this, but it has to be done. Casper knew too much and became too strong and too unstable. None of us wanted to risk entering our cabin at night just to be punctured by a cursed nail, ” Richard said in an entertaining tone.
"That's too cruel ..." he sighed.
“You and Jacob tried. If he doesn't insist on going there alone but listens to the two of you, we don't have to do this. But now that we do, ” Richard said as he got up from his chair and walked up to him. “This tutorial may be cruel, but it will be over soon. Once we return to Earth, we can find time to rest. To rebuild. You and Jacob can have your happy ending, and I swear I will support you as long as you support me. And don't worry, Jacob need not know anything about this.
Caroline looked at him a little before turning to leave. "Let's get out of this hellhole and finish this stupid war."
With those words, he walked out of the cabin, removing the barrier in the process. Richard watched her leave with a smile. Oh, what would a young and stupid person not do for love.
