Warm streams flowed through his body as it calmly circulated through his system. The flow of inner energy is a natural cycle that is always present in every living being that has energy and then needs it to function.
This is also why there is a decrease in passive stamina every time you are awake. Each time the body is moved, a small amount of this energy will be used. Of course, skills required more energy as they easily consumed hundreds of times the usual stamina consumption in just a few moments.
Which is probably where the name stamina comes from. It was a resource that allowed physical actions and skills.
It was very similar to mana in many ways. Unless stamina is the 'where' of the body. Just like a caster without mana would not be able to cast a single spell, a human without stamina would not even be able to move a single finger.
The two energies were very similar in many ways. That makes sense because there are ways to change one to the other. But if Jake can do a lot with mana..why can't he do it with stamina? But instead of injecting it into the item, why not inject more into some parts of its body?
He can do that now. Every time he used Powershot, he put tremendous energy on his arms, shoulders, and upper body. Enough so that if he channeled for too long, his body began to receive damage from him.
Every time he used Hunter's Sight and Archer's Eye before, he also did so with stamina.
With this skill, there was no conscious effort to move the energy made by him. It was a skill and, furthermore, a system that did all the manuals. He just had to think he wanted to use Powershot and focus on doing it. But he remembered the feeling he had when he did.
That's what he's trying to do right now. At first, he was unable to find this flow of energy flowing through his body, but eventually, he managed to sense a hint of energy.
He focused on the feelings as he went with the flow. It was a strange sensation of feeling the energy travel through channels in his body that he had never noticed. Or maybe they had never been there before the system reshaped its body upon entering the tutorial for the first time.
If one liked martial arts and eastern medicine, one would call these channels meridians. Jake has no way of learning more about the details of this channel, but he remains determined to find the basics.
He discovered that these 'meridians' actually did not exist physically. They were more of a metaphysical channel within his body that could change and weave to provide energy at will. He also discovered that the core of it was around his heart.
Time slowly passed as Jake sat drowning in meditation. Every part of his consciousness was only focused on the stamina that passed through it. Slowly he began to try and nudge her a little here and there. Speed up, slow down, maybe even try and change the way it travels a little bit.
Although he found little success in the first two, he did not gain anything when he tried to change course.
The energy is his, to begin with, part of his body. It is energy like mana. So he tried experimenting with treating it more like mana.
Trying out some of the methods he used while making potions, more specifically stamina potions, he began to find rapid progress.
The artificial sun had already appeared once more at this moment, when Jake finally opened his eyes.
Standing up, he began to punch the air. Or shadowboxing if someone wants to like his words. In the middle of the road, he started to speed up a bit as he focused on improving himself. It's a small difference, but it works.
He tried to improve it as he became faster and faster. His fists started whistling in the air as his strength got higher. As his movements began to look blurry, he suddenly felt that something was terribly wrong. He felt numbness in his arm, followed by pain, unlike when he used Powershot for too long. But this is much worse.
He tried to stop the flow and influx of stamina but found himself unable. His speed stopped increasing, and he continued to box, requiring some sort of release of energy.
The blood vessels in his arm started to bulge and flushed, his fists moving despite Jake trying to stop him. Now, he had actually come out of his stupor and discovered how stupid he was. He is very focused on being able to do it and is not at all focused on how to stop.
Finally, his flow reached its peak when both of his hands suddenly exploded like over-pumped balloons. Blood spewed everywhere as he cried out in pain, falling backwards onto the ground.
The stamina consumption had stopped, no longer having the medium to travel with his arm no longer being there.
Under his shoulders, he now only had two small stumps left. The pain is almost unbearable, but Jake manages to summon the healing potion from his spatial storage, as he somehow manages to unclog it and empty the small bottle into his throat through the use of a mana rope and his teeth.
He felt like an idiot as he lay on the ground. He believes himself to be in something truly extraordinary. And while he has it, at the same time it is dangerous to play around. He could not help but laugh a little for himself. In that short amount of time, he managed to lose three hands, including one missing from the raptor. Pretty impressive.
He also felt it was absurd how little he cared about it. Before the system, the loss of an arm would be a lifelong disability. Now, he only felt a little uneasy as it took a little longer to regrow his arm than to heal an ordinary wound.
Looking at his health points, they had only reduced by a little less than 1000 despite losing both of his arms. The amount was almost instantly regenerated after taking the health potion before.
But he's learned something. His training was not entirely in vain. If he could control his inner energy a little better, it would help the use of his skills. Say, what if he tried to speed up the charging of Powershot by forcibly increasing the flow of energy?
One of the benefits of Powershot is the direct release of energy each time he releases a string. All of the inner energy stored in his limbs was released at once into one devastating blow.
Compared to the shadowboxing of the previous calamity, where his energy continued to increase without any signs of stopping or exiting. He could expend a bit of energy with each blow, but it was far from enough.
It was like having a power supply in a computer. While a power supply technically draws power from a source capable of delivering far more energy than is necessary, it will just take what is required and then send it to another computer component if needed.
What he did before was plug two nails into a wall outlet and attach two wires directly to his graphics card, frying them very well. Unfortunately for him, the body does not have a natural breaker or security system installed.
But at least it was only targeting his arm. He could only be afraid of what would happen if he tried to speed up the flow throughout his body. Although it would likely provide a significant increase in strength, it would most likely result in a rapid decline in life.
While thoughts swirled in his head, his arms slowly grew back. At the same time, a system appeared before his eyes.
*Warning*Skill selection is still ongoing. Delaying or delaying your choices can cause side effects.
Jeez, thought Jake, as he recalled what he did before his disastrous little moment of enlightenment.
Opening the menu once again, he subconsciously checked the list and was surprised to find another new option.
[Explosive Blow (Inferior)] – A reckless attack can result in an expected win. Hit the enemy with extreme force, dealing the same amount of damage to the enemy as well as yourself. Added a small bonus for strength effects when using Explosive Punch.
Reading it, he felt somewhat humiliated. However it also helped confirm his suspicions that someone could somehow unlock the skill through their actions.
He wondered why he did not see anything related to his bloodline.
It gives at least two real abilities. The Sphere of Perception as soon as he called it, which of course allowed him to 'see' everything in the surrounding sphere and sense danger, which gave him a supernatural feeling of how dangerous something was, he said, or if there is anything dangerous at all.
Both are just among the more tangible benefits. The daily help of his instincts, along with his intuition, both of them also did an incredible job.
[Primal Hunter Bloodline (Blood Line Capability - Unique)] – Inactive power lies in the essence of your being. A unique innate ability that awakens in Jake Thayne's bloodline. Giving Scope of Perception. Provides an increased sense of danger. Improves all instincts and intuition. +15% for Perception.
The description has changed. It's not a big change, but it's still changing. Looking at the log, he could not see the old version. But he could remember his words quite well. It was just saying that it increased his innate instincts, increased his perception of his surroundings, and increased his perception of danger.
Is the system just copying my thoughts? he pondered while continuing to read that ability. The function of his abilities did not change, and he also did not feel any difference. It's just words. The words used were the same terms he had created to describe abilities more easily.
His abilities are always a bit special. First of all, it was the only system message Jake had ever seen that mentioned his name. Even those who offended his name did so by greeting him. But this one clearly says that Jake Thayne woke up, talking about him as a third person. Makes Jake wonder if someone else somehow gained this ability if it would say the same thing.
*Warning*Skill selection is still ongoing. Delaying or delaying your choices can cause side effects.
Yeah, yeah, Jake thought while omitting the message that popped up once again to warn him about how much time he wasted just thinking about things.
In the end, he chose the Splitting Arrow skill.
*Acquired Skill*: [Splitting Arrow (Rare)] – One arrow becomes many; one prey that falls into a field of death. Shoot arrows divided into multiple copies while in flight. Each arrow attacked with its original strength. Add a small bonus to the effects of agility and strength when using Splitting Arrow.
This skill would give him a more practical approach to deal with the enemy crowd and provide additional attacks that he could use during a direct battle.
In the end, Basic Nature Affinity was not that attractive to him. His intuition said the same thing, and as he had just experienced, it was good enough to guarantee his own unique abilities.
Sensing the knowledge entering his mind, he immediately wanted to try the skill. However, given his current limb shortage, he sadly had to postpone it as he sat down.
The dead beast was still all around him, and the ball took nothing in it - nothing mattered.
He decided to meditate once more to recover his stamina and mana faster. While his mana was quite full, his stamina was reduced to less than 30% after fighting and experimenting earlier. So calling her reckless use of stamina inefficient would be an understatement as well, it seems.
Jake's been focusing on vital energy all along. Meditation has a big drawback that it disconnects all the senses in the body. Except for touch, which meant he could still feel the energy moving as it reconstructed his limbs.
He did not even attempt to influence her in any way. Maybe he could try to speed up the healing process, but he decided to let it work. He had done quite a lot of experiments with energy for now.
Learning from movement, however, is not out of the question. This energy doesn't move through any particular channel but inhabits every part of Jake's body - his flesh, his blood, his bones, everything.
The concentration of vital energy in the other parts of his body began to gather towards the two limbs as they slowly regenerated. It was quickly restored by some unseen source around his heart at the same time.
The bone grew as if it was a small tree that slowly reached into the sky. Its flesh was like moss and bark that grew on a tree as it slowly piled on top of it. If one looked from the outside, it would look like a small stump that gradually extended down his arm, as the tip seemed to ripple slowly. Disgusting, to say the least, but far above what any modern medicine can achieve.
It took several hours before the regeneration was completed. Jake's arms still feel weak, but they're almost fine once again. Since this was not the first time she had lost a limb, she knew that in just a few hours, they would become like new. Or, well, just as good as the old one. He also found his bracelet that had been blown up and reassembled.
Having more free time, he took out his mixing bowl from his necklace. There was no reason to slack off even if he could not fight properly.
Moreover, he still had to replenish his poison storage at some point. His blood impregnated by the Blood of the Malefic Viper was undoubtedly strong, but the rare necrotic poison was stronger.
But more importantly, his blood could only take on necrotic properties. He still had another poison that looked more like an acid, a hemotoxin, and he even thought of making a powder that he could turn into a gas.
He had refrained from doing so before. He still has some moral premonitions. Using fog or poison powder is no different than many modern chemical weapons. Something that is forbidden by every civil society, and its use is generally considered a cruel war crime. Since he had no way of controlling the poison fog or the released gas, he was very reluctant to use it.
But he was slowly starting to overcome some of those moral barriers now. If poison would help give him such strength. He still has his own morals, his own code. That weapon, no matter how despicable, was always just that: A weapon. The deployment of such weapons is the only thing worth considering.
The mixing itself was calming, and he continued for a little longer than he had anticipated. After hours, he was finally given a level.
*'DING!' Profession: [Excellent Alchemist of Malefic Viper] has reached level 46 - Allotted stat points, +5 free points*
*'DING!' Race: [Human (E)] has reached level 38 - Allotted stat points, +5 free points*
With a smile, he enjoyed the warm stream of stats. He has decided to try and increase his profession to 50 before the end of the tutorial. He was very confident that the skill offered would be useful, given the epic skill he had obtained last time.
Checking the tutorial panel to see the time left, he was a little surprised.
