Neo Has Changed Now

The three of us were standing tight on the thick snow, in front of us was the Ice Mountain of Eternity. We had to climb all night to get to the top.

We also don't know what's stopping us up ahead. We've almost died many times, this one goal, certainly not easier than before.

"Are we going to start climbing now?" Neo asked breaking the silence.

"The sun is almost drowned, is it not safe to climb at night?" Rui.

"Hey, at least tomorrow morning we can see the sun rising from up there, isn't it beautiful?" Neo pointed at the top of that huge mountain.

"But what if there's a danger in the middle of the road? This is not the usual mountain in our world, Neo, the snow is even very thick" Rui again refused.

"What do you think, Jian?" Neo asked for my opinion.

I shrugged, "As far as you guys are. But I think we better spend the night down first, tomorrow morning just up. If you look from here, the mountain should be quite steep, even there is no climbing path, it will be difficult if we climb at night, especially the lighting here is not bright enough. Not to mention the possibility of a beast, and a blizzard," I explained what I thought made sense.

Neo exhaled, "No matter what form your sentence takes, you will still stand up for Rui," he grumbled in annoyance.

"It's not about defending who or who, Neo. I'm just getting rid of the worst possibilities" I protest he's accusing me of being unfair, "After all, it's my first time."

Neo walks ahead of us, "If you want to rest, then better hurry, we see if there's a place warm enough to rest," Neo checks around.

At the foot of the mountain, there was a huge tree that had a deep niche beneath it. At least enough for two people, one the other would be standing guard outside.

Neo set up a small tent, I cleared a tree niche, Rui made a bonfire. It's a pretty good rest until tomorrow morning.

"I'm going to go catch some snow bunnies, you guys can prepare the spices," Neo stood up.

"Don't there still be bread?" Rui checked his pockets.

"The bread is tasteless, Rui. We need side dishes." Neo did not care anymore, immediately went to a more dense region of trees.

"Leave it, Rui. He can't eat without meat, you know for yourself." I patted Rui's shoulder, widening her patience.

After hours, Neo returned with a fat rabbit in his left hand, his right hand grasping a long spear with a pointed tip.

Neo let out a crisp laugh, "It's really hard to catch a snow rabbit, I only got one, but it's really lucky because the rabbit is pretty fat. This is enough for the three of us to have dinner." Neo immediately processed it into cooked meat.

Tonight, we actually had a full dinner thanks to the fat bunny that Neo caught. I always wondered why he never failed in hunting animals.

"Neo, how do you hunt?" Rui asked on the sidelines chewing.

"As usual, just hunting alone," Neo waved his hand, indifferently picking up the biggest piece of meat.

"I mean, you never got good grades in archery lessons" Rui said.

"Other than you just throw a spear, how can it be right on target?" i added.

Neo looked at us alternately, "Why? You can't believe I have that amazing talent? People used to say, it's okay not to show talent in front of others, the important thing is we can prove it at the right time," Neo protested we both said it was not diligent in archery lessons.

"After all, archery lessons at school are never fun, they don't provide animals as targets for arrows, only target boards. It wasn't enough to challenge me" Neo added.

We did not speak anymore, we were busy enjoying our meals.

As the atmosphere grew colder and darker, the sky above began to reveal something very beautiful.

The stars scattered everywhere, there was a tinge of auroral light decorating it. We enjoyed this beautiful evening with a pensive look.

"Jian, Rui, you can just sleep. I'll be on guard tonight" Neo said, breaking the silence.

"Eh, can't. You are not healthy, you should not be awake. I'm the one on guard," Rui shook her head firmly, telling Neo to immediately enter the niche.

"You also just recovered from the black poison, Rui. You two just sleep, I'll be on my guard, "I won't let Rui stand guard tonight. He also needs extra rest.

"Why doesn't anyone want to sleep?" Neo looked at us both annoyed, "I don't accept mercy from anyone, you guys sleep, I'll keep watch."

Rui and I fell silent, "Alright." Neo is scary when angry.

Rui instantly fell asleep as soon as she lay inside the niche. Lying next to Rui was very warm. But I still can't sleep.

An hour later, I decided to get out of the niche. Other than not being able to sleep, I also don't want to disturb Rui's deep sleep.

I walked up to him, sat down next to him, "I can't sleep."

"Do you want to accompany me for a chat?" Neo took out a snack from inside a small bag.

I accepted, "Do you want to tell me anything?" my many.

"Before, I wanted to properly thank you, Jian," he replied.

Thank you for right? How's it?

"You've helped me a lot since we've been stuck in this world" Nei replied to my incomprehension.

"Neo," I called out his name, he looked at me right away, we stared for quite a while, but I didn't immediately continue my sentence.

"What's up, Jian?" Neo broke my daydream, made me immediately shake my head, "It's okay."

Neo looked back to the front, "I miss our normal lives" he said, exhaling softly.

"Neo, if you don't follow us through that door, you won't be stuck here either. You won't leave that normal life," I lowered my head.

"You mean, you're not happy I'm here?" Neo looked at me intensely.

I immediately shook my head, "It's not so, I'm just curious. Every day I wonder, but I dare not ask."

"Ask what?"

"Ask why you decided to catch up with us entering the portal," I replied in a small voice.

Neo didn't speak after a while, "Maybe it's because I feel guilty," Neo shrugged.

"Painful?"

"When I told you about the new room in the library, I was actually lying, Jian. The room was a room built specifically for extracurricular music. But I lied to you that it was a theater room," Neo let out a slow breath, "I thought you would scold me when you went back to class again, what you saw was a theater room. I heard you guys were planning on visiting that room again after school, so I followed you guys to make sure what you saw was really the music room I saw."

I looked at Neo's face that looked solemn. So the room was not actually a theater room. But a special room for extracurricular music.

"But we're actually looking at the cool fantasy costumes, we're not suspicious because the twelfth grade is going to be doing theater plays about the magical world, right? Who would have thought that the room was a different manipulation room to the actual room," I added an explanation.

"If I'm right, it should be one of the rooms in Hudie Academy. Neo looked very sorry when he spoke, I did not want to scold him, nor did I feel disappointed at what Neo did.

"I've never had a friend who truly appreciated me, Jian," Neo chuckled lightly, "I'm lucky to know you guys so well to this day. If you ask me if I regret lying to you, I will also say no. Because the lie turned out to make me have a friend who is very valuable to me, "his smile was wide.

I've never seen Neo seem so serious about his words. He is a man who is only selfish, not a man who cares about the various kinds of sweet sentences in the world.

"I don't know what's weird about you, Neo. But you've been talking nonsense ever since you met Zhu and Zhi," I didn't take another long sentence, finished the rest of my snacks, and then took some water.

"Jian, I've always been happy to get to know you so well" Neo smiled again.

I looked at him with a lazy gaze, "I'm sleepy, Neo. Don't talk anymore" I said annoyed.

Neo looked up, silent again in the silence of the night.

I watched him for quite a while from inside the niche, occasionally Neo added firewood, then sipped some warm water. Tonight, I got to know Neo from a different point of view.
