Luccane

Luccane
Chapter 6: Daily Living at Home

Luccane harrumphed amusedly. "it is nothing but a ghost who does not want to accept the fact that he is dead after meeting and falling in love with you, Vishabea."

I was stunned to hear Luccane's words, confused not to know how to respond.

Said to be joking but the highlight of his blue eyes is very serious, said seriously also his facial water looks ridiculous.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I was finally only able to respond tightly because I did not have another response stock.

Luccane rolled his eyes.

"i know that you're wrong now you don't have to bother covering it up, Miss Lazuardi."

I turned my face away, feeling a warm sensation radiating down both sides of my cheeks all of a sudden. Don't tell me I'm being totally misbehaved now?!

The oddity slowly sounded behind me, making my feelings even more uncertain.

Luccane could have laughed when I didn't know how to do this!

"Wand first, even if you want to laze today at least you have to keep bathing," ledek Luccane who made me without thinking directly inched to the bathroom.

Since the bathroom was located at the very back of the house, I galloped slowly down the connecting hallway between the kitchen and the bathroom.

From the window, I could see the neighboring mothers who were busy choosing vegetables at the traveling greengrocer not far from the back of my house.

The sky this morning looks gray, increasing my laziness to do activities outside the home. Yes, I think it is better for me to rest while gathering energy for new student orientation activities later.

...****************...

After bathing and drying my hair, I went out to buy cooking ingredients for the day. Yeah, it's one of the annoying parts if I have to live alone in a neighborhood like this.

"Veget, Neng?" bargain the vegetable seller when I arrive in front of his cart.

"Sayur asem is there, Mang?" tanyaku while looking at the contents of the vegetable cart of the Mamang.

"There's a fuck, Neng. Want some of the spices?"

I nodded. "can, Mang."

While putting my groceries in the bag of crackles, Mamang menayaku.

"where does Neng live? How did you first see it?"

I pointed towards my house.

"i contracted in that house, Mang. indeed not long ago so have not had time to acquaintance with the right-left neighbor."

The face of the mother looks pale.

"seriously, Neng? live there? is there no ghost? It's a haunted house, Neng!"

I smiled faintly, handing over a piece of money to the Mamang.

"it's important we don't bother them, Mang. God willing, everything is safe."

The middle-aged man gave me my groceries and his change.

"hopefully keep it safe, Neng."

I returned smiling. "yes, thank you, Mang. I went home first, come on."

haunted house? Ah, I became curious about what the occupants of the house were doing to the extent that others thought it was like that. Not wanting to take a headache, I then entered the house through the back door so that I could directly cook in the kitchen.

"Where are you from?" Luccane asked as I closed the back door.

"Although I was lazy but I realized that I also need to eat," I replied as I opened the grocery bag next to the sink.

I washed the vegetables I bought with running tap water, while Luccane was busy watching every move I made in silence like a statue.

After feeling all the vegetables were clean, I quickly cut them to taste and cooked them while humming.

Not long ago, my homemade asem vegetables were finally ready to be presented on the dining table.

"This is called asem vegetable. Have you tried?"

"It seems like once, Mama used to cook the food for me because the aroma felt very familiar" Luccane said with eyes fixed on me.

"You want to eat it again?" bargain me while thrusting a plate at Luccane.

He chuckled, "does ghosts need to eat?"

I patted my forehead. "well, I forgot that you're not a human who needs to eat like I am."

Luccane smiled, looking at me who had started eating. "the next time I'll tell you the recipe for Dutch cuisine."

"Do you know how to cook?"

Luccane propped up his chin, looking straight at me.

"i can almost do everything, and cooking is one of the things I enjoy the most. What Dutch food you want to eat, I know all the recipes and how to cook them."

I wondered how much memory capacity Luccane had in his brain so that he could remember so many things throughout his life.

I wish I had a brain capacity as big as Luccane's, huh.

"Then I'll ask you for a prescription to prove whether the recipe is correct" I said after finishing my meal.

Luccane chuckled. "i can prove it to you anyway, you won't be disappointed if you cook using my recipe later."

Sure enough my guess is, the rain really came down hard making me grateful not to have any activities outside the house today.

At least I shouldn't get wet outside today.

"What is your favorite Dutch food in life?" I asked with my eyes glued to the window, which featured a large, lush tree on the left side of the street located in my backyard.

"I like Schotel the most" Luccane replied, "but did you know that the pineapple jam cake also came from Holland?"

Feeling that I got interesting information, I intended to re-digit the information directly from the source.

"really? what in the original recipe the Dutch did use pineapple jam as the stuffing?"

"At that time the original recipe used strawberry jam or peach, but because pineapple was one of the main agricultural commodities in the Dutch East Indies, the recipe was modified as such" Luccane explained.

I nodded in understanding.

"then is there another typical Dutch food that is still much in demand by the people of Indonesia?"

"Perkedel? It's also one of the typical Dutch potato preparations" Luccane replied beamingly.

He likes to talk to me about this topic.

"If I like nastar the most, let alone mama's nastar uh it feels really awesome!"

I said enthusiastically considering how delicious the cake made by Mama in Palembang when the Eid al-Fitr holiday arrived.

"No wonder, Mama you're a direct descendant of one of the top Dutch officials" Luccane said, looking at my face.

"Does my face look Dutch?"

Yes, I know that Mama does have a bit of Dutch blood on Grandpa's side while Papa has mixed Chinese blood.

"Your face is more Asian dominant" Luccane expressed his opinion. "then you look very beautiful."

I blushed, "thank you."

"Next time I will show you how the conditions in colonial times are" Luccane said still with a fixed view on me.

"Could you?" I don't necessarily believe.

The handsome young man smiled full of mystery.

"i can do anything you want, you just have to say it."
