Luccane

Luccane
Chapter 45: The Unexpected Truth

"The unexpected serial killer? Who?" andri asked with her thick eyebrows swooping down.

"Did Mr Willem ever say that Luccane had a brother?" I asked back, who knew Andri already knew first that Luccane had a twin brother.

The young man shook his head.

"No, he only told me that Luccane's son was a child."

It turned out that even to death, Meneer Willem never wanted to tell the truth about the existence of Vin his own biological son.

Is it true that everything Vin did without the knowledge of Papa and Mama? I became more curious and wanted to pry information about Vin even further.

"Who made this book? What does the Luccane family have to do with it? Then why are you serious about that?" now Andri is bombarding me with questions.

I grimaced, not usually Andri so chatty like this. "the person who wrote this book is Vin, the twin brother of Luccane which of course has a close relationship with Meneer Willem and his wife."

"Huh?! Twin brother? How could they hide the existence of their own biological children even after they die and become ghosts?!" Andri exclaimed in surprise, but he lowered his voice.

The tense atmosphere makes Andri's face change. The contents of the book written by Vin was indeed very terrible, containing the names of the victims and what methods were done by Vin to eliminate the lives of his victims.

Cold sweat even seemed to wet Andri's forehead, implying that the contents of the book were indeed not things that could be called as fun.

"Yes. I just found out from Luccane yesterday and it makes me very curious. Then, I managed to find Vin's room following this book," I said as I pointed to Vin's old book.

"It turns out that Meneer Willem's family is not an ordinary wealthy family" Andri concluded.

"I also thought so, so I asked for help from you to open the veil of mystery that covers the Luccane family. I can't do it alone, Andri. The ghosts who live in my house are reluctant to help me," I said as I grabbed Andri's hand.

Andri nodded. "Alright, Visha. We have to do something soon."

I smiled at hearing it.

Andri was indeed my most reliable cousin long ago.

"But, we should not take any hasty steps either. Luccane can't even come to you every day, can he?"

"You're right, Andri. The information given by Luccane is also very limited so we have to go slowly and carefully" he said.

Andri chuckles a little. "you should be majoring in criminology, not history. You're a great fit to be a detective with such sharp instincts, you know!"

"Alright, then let's work together from now on Detective Andri!"

Andri's hand grabbed my hand and shook it. "it's an honor for me, detective Vishabea."

...****************...

Tonight is a full moon, making the light shine brighter accompany me who is looking out the window no matter if it is already midnight.

"Meneer Willem, come here there are many things we should talk about tonight as well" I murmured as I stared blankly at the moon.

From behind the glass, I could faintly see a white shadow standing in the doorway of the room while observing myself.

"Hurry here, don't try to dodge" I said firmly after my nose caught the scent of cloves and cinnamon that characterize Meneer Willem's existence.

The white shadow that was standing in the doorway of the room slowly began to solidify, forming the figure of Meneer Willem with an all-white djas toetoep dress typical of Dutch people in the colonial era.

"What do you want to ask? It looks like your face is serious," Meneer Willem said while looking straight at me but with a typical cold gaze of hers.

"Who is Vin? Can Meneer explain it in detail to me?" I turned around, looking directly at Meneer Willem demanding honesty from him.

"I thought you were very sensitive but I didn't think you'd find out so soon. Well, I know all you want is honesty from me, don't you think?"

"Just tell me everything, don't beat around the bush!"

Silence then enveloped me and Meneer Willem, who if only Luccane had not died wanted me to be my father-in-law.

"Had Luccane been crazy about you. Not only beautiful, you also have all the standards of a dream wife such as firm and smart," said Meneer Willem with a thin smile.

"Well, because you asked me to tell me straight away the honesty you want to know right now. You can ask anything, I'll answer honestly."

"Why did you cover up Vin's whereabouts, your other son?" I was straight at the point.

The water was calm like the lake water owned by Meneer Willem then experienced a change, apparently he did not expect I would immediately ask this.

"Vin accidentally killed a Jongos in a flower garden at night. Therefore, my wife and I agreed to cover up the case and say that Jongos died of illness. Not long ago, Vin who was then seven years old even acted again by killing a business colleague after dinner," explained Meneer Willem with a sad face and regret.

"Why did such a little boy kill two grown men?" I just feel awkward.

"I don't know, I just found out they were dead after Vin finished executing them. Really, I never expected that I would have a child with such an extreme mental disorder as Vin. He is very inversely proportional to Luccane who is always straight and never against his parents" replied Willem Meneer.

I know what Meneer Willem said is not a lie.

He told me honestly from what he knew, I understand, that man did not expect to have such a cold-blooded child at all.

"Because of his two terrible actions, we all agreed to tell everyone that Vin, the twin brother of Luccane, died of an illness while on his way back to the Netherland. No one knows the truth but me, my wife and Luccane and some Babu and Jongos who work in our house. Back then, I thought this was the best move to save our family image but it turned out to be untrue."

"What happened after that?"

Meneer Willem's increasingly sad gaze now looked at me, making my breath choked in my throat.
