Just now the priest's finger moved to touch Karina's contact number, when someone came and whispered something to her. Reverend Andreas hurried up and walked out. The man gasped when he saw a woman in a hijab with a man in an army uniform standing next to a mourning tent. The woman greeted the priest.
"Pastor, how are you?" He extended a hand. His face implied a sense of unease.
"M-take K-karina?" Nervously the priest welcomed Karina's hand as well as Bayu's.
"Master, Bertha?"
The Reverend Andreas nodded. "Yes, Ma'am, Bertha's gone."
Karina's eyes flashed. Lips vibrate. The crying of the woman broke. Bayu immediately grabbed his wife's shoulder and invited her to sit on a chair in the tent.
"Why didn't the pastor tell me?" asked Karina in between her tears.
The priest did not answer.
"What happened to Bertha, priest. Hurt her?"
Priestesses shake. "She had heavy bleeding before giving birth, Mother." The man paused with a deep breath. "All my fault" he sizzled.
Karina and Bayu's attention is now entirely on the priest. Their eyes implied curiosity.
"Bertha wanted to see Janu, but I forbade. It looks like Bertha is depressed. Before this, he didn't want to talk to me at all. He's mad at me."
Karina held tightly to her husband's arm. Bayu stroked his wife's shoulder.
"Why does the pastor forbid? Had the pastor told us, of course we would have tried to talk to Maira and mas Janu. After all, Bertha was the one who saved Janu's life."
The priest looked down at Karina's words. "It's too late. Sorry," whispered.
"What about Bertha's son, pastor?" ask Bayu.
The priest Andrew raised his face, then formed the sign of the cross with his hands. "Praise God, the baby was born healthy."
"Alhamdulillah" almost simultaneously Karina and Bayu said.
"Master, let me inform you about Maira, "please Karina later.
The priest nodded slowly. Then Karina took the device and looked for her sister's contact number.

A few days ago, in Chicago.
Karina is sitting in front of Bayu. Her husband was enjoying lunch at the dinner table. Karina's rib soup is her favorite menu. He seemed to be unconcerned about his wife's whereabouts. It is so good to put rice in your mouth.
"Mas!"
"Hem?" he answered, still while passing meat from the bone. Then one big mouthful went back into his mouth.
"It seems like Bertha is time to give birth."
Bayu movement Bayu hand scooping rice suddenly stopped. Raised his face, looking at his wife. "What do you mean?"
"The baby .. the boy's son Janu's mas, Mas."
Bayu took a breath. Put the spoon on the plate. "Then?"
"I'm really, so I don't feel comfortable if we just keep quiet. It is true that it was an unintentional mistake. Mistakes that happen because of ignorance. But, what, yeah, yeah, we're gonna take that responsibility?"
Bayu gulped. The man looks worried. "I understand how you feel, Rin. I feel that way too. Like something's still stuck." He held his wife's hand. "But it is not our right to intervene. However, this concerns Maira's feelings. Let them both decide."
Karina's eyes glazed over. A few moments later tears were shed on the cheeks.
"Lho, what, even cry?"
Karina shakes. "I don't know, Mom, every remember Bertha and her baby, how I feel, so gini nelangsa, huh?"
Bayu stood up, approaching Karina's seat. The man then hugged his wife.
"Mas, how'd the baby adopt?" asked Karina in between tears.
Bayu unraveled his embrace. "It's not that easy, Rin. Think about your brother's feelings too!"
Karina is back. "But, at least, can we see Bertha in Jogja?"
Bayu nodded. "God willing, end of the week, baby. We go to Jogja and look at your mother."
"Thank you, Mom!" Karina hugged her husband.

"Assalamualaikum, Karina."
"Waalaikumsalam, Ma'am. Ma'am Mai, I'm in Jogja now."
Maira answered with a sigh.
"Mak Mai, Bertha is dead."
The woman jerked until the phone slipped out of her hand. In a hurry he took the thing back.
"B-b-bertha?" Stammered Maira said.
"Yes, Ma'am, died in childbirth. This we happened to fit right in coming to the pastor's house of Andreas. His body is still buried here."
"B-the baby?"
"Alhamdulillah the baby survived. Still hospitalized."
Maira's entire joint felt limp. The news really made him shaken. Bertha's innocent face flashed back.
Oh Allah ....
"So what, Ma'am, Janu was told?"
Maira did not answer immediately. Too many feelings raged on his chest. A dilemma facing that reality.
"Mr?"
"Let me talk to Janu, Rin," he replied weakly.
I don't know what attitude he'll take. Tell Janu, let the man go back in the past, will you? Don't tell, let it all pass like nothing, okay?
Nah!
Maura shook her head strongly. Squeezing a roll of yarn on the table.
Mas Janu can come back to us because of that woman. I should have owed him. Why have I been so selfish and cruel? Why didn't I let Janu fix his mistake on Bertha from the beginning?
Maira jumped from her seat. He then snatched the car keys off the shelf.
"Teh Lina, I'll take Hanin for a second!" he ran towards the garage.
Not long after he had driven towards Janu's office. It's still an hour of daylight rest. Maira can't wait for her husband at home. It seemed that he was afraid that the decision he had made had suddenly changed again.
"Unfortunately, let me see you Janu!" maira said, as soon as it arrived in front of the guard picket.
Coincidentally today Serka Untung, letting her husband who was on guard. The man was flabbergasted to see the arrival of Maira who looked very hasty.
"What's wrong? No problem, right?"
Maira shakes. "There's nothing, Om. There's just something to tell Jani right away."
"OKAY. Then Maira just wait in the office lobby, yeah!"
"Don't, Om, let me just wait in the cafeteria!"
Serka Untung just shrugged his shoulders. "Yes, already. I called Janu first, yeah. He's probably still in his room."
"I'll wait in the cafeteria, Om!"
Serka Untung nodded.
The atmosphere in the canteen is still quiet. There was no lunchtime yet so no personnel arrived. Maura took a seat in the corner of the room. He looked agitated, occasionally twirling his drinking glass.
Not how long it seemed Janu was walking towards the canteen. The man waved at his wife with a big smile.
"What's up, huh, kok, tumben nyula? Kangen, huh?"
Maira did not respond to Janu's jokes. Not even a smile appeared on his face that suddenly stiffened.
Janu frowned, feeling that something was wrong with his wife. "There's nothing, is there, Yang?" tanyanya.
"Mas" said Maira Parau. "There's news from Jogja."
Janu was rather surprised to see the sad expression on Maira's face. "What's up, honey? Father mother why?"
"It's not mom, it's Bertha."
Janu almost jumped from his seat. "Bertha?"
