The heat of the sun felt warm on Janu's naked arms. The man opened his eyes. But a moment later it was back. The glare of the light made his pupils unaccustomed. For a moment he began to blink his eyes.
A few seconds later, Janu's gaze became brighter. He was still in a snuggled position on the ground with his hands and feet tied. Rotating the neck, trying to observe the circumstances around. It looks out there the rest of the campfire is still emitting smoke. While some people seemed to be asleep around him with guns in hand. A few more stood guard.
Janu tried to remember what happened. He doesn't know how to be here. As he remembered, he was unconscious after something hit his nape. It happened the night of an attack on an airfield by a separatist group. And now, it's morning. Whether it happened last night or last night, he doesn't remember much. What he felt at this moment was that his stomach felt extremely hungry.
Buk up!
Two pieces of roasted sweet potato were thrown in front of him. A bottle of drink followed later. Janu raised his face, trying to see who was standing in front of him.
A jet-skinned man, small curly hair that was almost flat with his head, looked at him with a flat face. The weapon he was holding, was pointed towards Janu.
"Eat!" command's short.
Janu moved his hand, trying to untie the bond. As if realizing something, the man lowered his weapon and crouched down in front of Janu. The release of the bond in Janu's hand. Then the man stood up and turned back to his gun.
Janu immediately got up from a snuggled position on the ground. He now sat down bending his knees, facing the gunman. Take the sweet potato and the bottle. Then immediately open the bottle cap and drink a few sips. Sweet potatoes whose skin is charred blackish began to be bitten. It didn't take long for Janu to finish the food and drink. The hunger that stirs makes it so greedy.
The armed man in front of him again tied Janu's hands. Then in his eyes Janu lekat. Those eyes with brownish irises gave a friendly glance. Janu.
After the man left, he realized that the bond in his hand was no longer strong. The knot of the bond with the finger, feels that it is a knot that is easily opened.
Janu raised his face, looking at the man who had come to him. The man also glanced at him.
Thank you, whispered Janu inwardly.
The soldier began to look around. Left right is a steep cliff. The plants appear to cover the rocks. Access movement is only two-way, along the valley between the two cliffs. There were trees all around them, but they were not very close.
A bad place to escape and shelter from the gunfire.
Janu's eyes now turned on the gunmen. There are about 13 people. Seven of them were holding long guns. The other six were holding bows, some were carrying other sharp weapons. No one holds a gun.
The chances of survival are no more than eight percent.
The gunmen are now packing. It seems they will leave. The rest of the campfire was filled with stones. Items packed in large canvas bags.
The man who had been feeding Janu approached. This time she unbinds Janu's leg.
"Pi's now!" The muzzle of the weapon was touched to Janu's body. A signal for Janu to stand up.
Trained Janu tried to straighten her body. Both of his legs felt weak and tingling. While the hands tied behind the back also complicate the movement. But the gunpoint in front of his face made him try hard to stand up immediately.
Those people speak the language of the region. Janu did not understand. He only came along when they signaled him to walk. Janu is a bit limped with bare feet. He walked at gunpoint.
They go up the peaks of the hills, into the forest, cross the river, cross the valleys and climb the steep peaks. Sometimes stop for a drink. During the trip, none of the people spoke Indonesian. Janu doesn't understand what their plans are for him.
Hmm ..., being left alive, means they'll take advantage of my life. Maybe they'll ask for a ransom for my safety. After that they will release or it could kill me once his wish is achieved. The best thing to do now is to try to free yourself as soon as possible.
Janu tried to guess his fate in his heart. While the sharp eyes of the soldier were observing and studying the armed men who were around him. They are average. There are some whose bodies are small, but even more agile to move. One of them is thick. This guy is the slowest compared to the others. However, this slow guy seemed to be close to their leader in a laken hat. Seen from the way the laken hat talks that always lowers the voice on the stocky. It's different when you talk to others. Always full of pressure and high-pitched.
By noon they stopped somewhere in the form of a plateau. Many trees grow in that place. Left right of the abyss that's not so steep. Trees and shrubs covered the ravines. Open access in multiple directions. The right place to try to escape.
Janu's movements came to a halt as the person who had been feeding again approached. With sign language, the man told Janu to open his mouth. Then he poured water into Janu's mouth. The freshness of the water makes Janu's brain become clearer.
"Thank you ...," said Janu.
The man nodded. A small grin appeared on his lips. A moment later, he returned to his resting place.
The wind blows breezy. Cool and comfortable in the heat of the day. Some of the gunmen even fell asleep on the grass.
Janu again moved his fingers and wrists. The man tried to untie the knot that was binding. And some time later his efforts succeeded. Janu's hands are now free from bondage. But the man kept it hidden behind his back. His eyes stared at those people. Heart pounding, adrenaline racing.
"Woii, ko pu mata jang glared at you!" hardik one of them.
Janu. He tried not to arouse their suspicions. Hands that are free from bonding remain hidden behind the body. While the rope that had been detached was now in his grasp.

Command Headquarters, Bandung.
Several officials gathered for an emergency meeting. The news of the attack on one of the air bases in Papua has reached their ears. Even troops have also been sent to evacuate victims and eradicate separatist groups that are thought to still be around there.
"How many victims is there?" ask the commander with a tense face. The shocking news had already burned his anger.
"Izin, Dan, there were three dead victims, five heavy injuries, nine minor injuries, and one missing." Lieutenant Colonel Sapto stood up, handing over a paper containing the names of the victims.
The commander exhaled heavily as his eyes scanned the names on the paper. His hands that were on the table were tightly clenched. It feels heavy to know so many casualties of soldiers.
"Izin's orders, for each victim's family how, Dan?"
"I'll give you information soon. Do not let them know this news first from the media!"
"Ready, Dan!"
"Oiya, for Serka Janu Satria, is there a current update on its existence?"
"Izin, not yet, Dan. But it is thought he was taken hostage by the armed group."
The commander sighed again. His fist hit the table with emotion.
