SCARLETT (Kiss From The Darkness)

SCARLETT (Kiss From The Darkness)
Chapter 39

I stiffened hearing his words. I felt Roland grab my shoulders tight. I also felt a tension in Roland.

"Who are you?" my many.

He stared at me without answering my question. I felt Roland tighten his hand against my shoulder as if to protect me. Who exactly is this woman, I asked in my heart.

This time the woman's gaze turned towards Roland. I felt my body stiffen.

"How can you two be together?" ask her with curious eyes.

Roland turned to look at me with a questioning look. I returned his gaze with confused eyes.

"You ... " The woman looked back at me while pointing her index finger at me.

I swallowed with difficulty.

"You are the daughter of Gilgamesh!" yells.

How did he know about me? I felt a cold sensation running down my back.

"How did you know?" I asked in a soft voice that almost whispered to her.

"I am the daughter of the Forgotten Wise" she said.

Ah now I understand. The Forgotten Wise is the witch who changed me first. He is a nephilim, a demigod who became a witch in the kingdom. He is also immortal. This woman is his daughter. That means the woman in front of me is also immortal.

"Where is he now?" I asked the whereabouts of the Forgotten Wise.

His gaze turned to sadness upon hearing my question.

"He was killed by Victor" he said in a hoarse voice.

His gaze looked up as if he was recalling the incident. I felt my anger reappear after hearing Victor's name.

"I'm sorry, too," I said.

He ignored my words.

"A few days after turning you into an immortal, Victor came to our house and forced my father to turn him into an immortal being. But my father refused it. Victor was furious at my father's refusal. He threatened to kill me if my father didn't follow his orders." He stopped his speech for a moment.

Roland and I didn't interrupt the story.

"Finally my father agreed to his request. After the ritual was over and Victor had turned into a complete vampire, he killed my father." Her voice disappeared at the end of the sentence and she wiped away the tears in the corner of her eyes.

I am concerned about what has happened to them.

"I'm so sorry" I said slowly.

He looked back at me.

"That day I ran as far away from that place as I could to save myself. I wish I could find you and ask you to go back to fixing things in the palace." He said it with a trembling voice.

I bit my lip imagining he had to run to save himself from Victor's threats. Just like I did before.

"I am unable to save the kingdom" I said softly.

This time I saw his eyes begin to soften.

"Sometimes we need to bury the past and let the future be welcomed" he said, smiling at me.

I nodded towards him.

"I'm Meredith" he said, extending a hand toward me.

I welcome his hand.

"Come in!" he turned around and walked into the house.

I looked towards Roland who was looking at me. He's nodding. We both walked following Meredith inside.

Arriving inside the house, Meredith told us to sit on the sofa. The house is tiny. Maybe Meredith lives alone.

"Do you want me to make you a drink?" he turned to Roland.

"No need" Roland said.

Meredith sat down on the couch across from us.

"How did you get together?" tanyanya while looking at Roland's hand that still hugged my shoulder.

Roland and I looked at each other.

"He saved me a while ago when I got an attack from a vampire hunter" I explained.

"Aren't you a vampire hunter, too?" ask Roland.

"He ... "my sentence was cut off when Roland interrupted.

"I'm no longer a vampire hunter" Roland explained.

"You two should always be careful" Meredith told us.

"What did you mean earlier to say that I am the Chosen One?" ask Roland to Meredith.

I stiffened hearing Roland's question. Meredith looked at me. I nodded slowly towards him.

"Forget it!" meredith said, shaking hands.

I turned towards Roland and saw a disappointed look in his eyes. Maybe he really wanted to know what Meredith meant on the porch.

"Victor's gone," I switched the subject.

"really?" meredith asked with eyes wide in disbelief.

"Yes, he's dead and turned to dust" I assured him.

"How can you?" Meredith asked with widened eyes.

"Some time ago he caused chaos in the city, he came to look for me, on purpose" I said.

Meredith's gaze turned horrified as she heard my words.

"How did you get away with it?" tanyanya.

"I managed to kill him" I answered briefly.

Meredith nodded and looked at me with a sense of pride that emanated clearly in her eyes.

"You managed to avenge your parents" he told me.

I nodded and looked towards the window.

"It looks like the rain has subsided" I said.

Roland looked towards the window. Outside it seems the rain has stopped.

"We're going home" Roland said as he pulled my shoulder to stand up.

We say goodbye to Meredith. Me and Roland stepped up leaving Meredith standing in the living room. Arriving at the door I heard Meredith calling my name.

We stopped our steps and I looked towards him. He signaled me to get closer to him. I told Roland to wait for me on the porch and he agreed.

I walked up to Meredith and stood right in front of her.

"Scarlett, does your lover not know that she is the key to unleashing your curse?" ask her in a soft tone so Roland could not hear her.

I shook my head at him.

"Don't you want to go back to being human?" tanyakanya.

"How did you know?" manya curious.

"My dad told me that you didn't want to live as a vampire" he replied.

"I want to go back to being human, but not by sacrificing Roland" I whispered with teary eyes.

"There is no other way to restore you to human form than by sacrificing the soul of the Chosen One" he whispered.

"No, I'll never sacrifice her!" I said shaking my head and biting my lips to hide the pain in my heart.

"Scarlett, I see pain in your soul" he said with a concerned face.

"It's okay" I said, winking my eyes so that my tears wouldn't spill.

"How could this life give you so much pain?" ask her with teary eyes.

"It's okay, I can bear it," I said, smiling weakly at him.

"Scarlett, you know that I've always been on your side." He said it sincerely.

My heart trembled at his words.

I nodded towards him.

"I have to go, Roland is waiting for me" I said.

He nodded and smiled at me.

"Come here whenever you want" he said.

"Thank you" I said and turned around to leave him.

I saw Roland smiling at me as I walked over to him. He took my hand and we walked to the car.

I felt Roland's steady hand grip on my hand. For a moment I could forget my desire to return to being human. Right now the most important thing is that I have Roland in my life.
