The Land Of Thorns

The Land Of Thorns
Rosten City part 5

The southern area of Rosten is known as the immigrant district, with many commoners and mercenaries staying at the inn of the city, and its location is close to the southern and eastern gates, because this city only has 2 main gates as access in and out.

The south gate and east gate are approximately three kilometers with a total length of the wall that stretches six kilometers, you could say this city has a strong defense by utilizing its geographical location.

In the western and northern parts protected by the north sea, only the western part of the city allows it to dock while the northern part of the castle is protected by steep cliffs so high. With the east side protected by quite steep hills, only madmen and ingenious people were willing to sacrifice many lives to seize this place.

Edgar walked down the southern street of the city which is not currently so crowded even though this road is one of the main access into the city, when it gets dark, light relief is only obtained from the building of the house that lights a lantern in front of his house. The light of the city looked so dim that it was very much different from the mansion where he lived.

He had walked quite a distance, he saw such a bright light from a distance like a burning fire.

“Fire! fire!”

The sound of panicked residents seeing the fire that burned a building, making Edgar run towards the place of the fire look curious.

Edgar saw the name of the place that had not been burned long ago it said ‘Bone Iron’, a place that Edgar was heading to was now burning fire. Edgar was silent in his daydream to see the place burning in front of him.

“Quick extinguish the fire .. call the others who are in the store!”

The voice came from one of the people in the crowd, they were seen wearing leather armor and carrying weapons, from seeing that Edgar knew that they were mercenaries.

People were passing by putting out the fire moving so fast that they hit Edgar who looked silent, and made him realize from his daydream.

'Oh, yes I have to help them.'

Edgar swiftly helped put out the fire with makeshift equipment alternately passing buckets filled with water, some soldiers on guard helped when they saw the blaze that made them quickly put out the building.

The time they needed was indeed quite long but they managed to extinguish the building, but the building made of wood really did not take long to make most of the place scorched.

Bruk!

The sound of wood collapsing due to fire. Edgar tried to look inside the burned-out building, even he could still feel it still felt so warm.

“Is anyone injured?”

Edgar heard the voice from someone standing next to him looking inside the building.

He saw the young man who was the same age as him so familiar, seen the young man wearing a protective suit made of leather with a bow on his back looking like a hunter.

“Ludi?”

“.., sorry?”

“Oh, no. I'm looking for my acquaintance who lives here, but it looks like there's no sign of anyone here.”

Edgar was convinced that he was a friend whom Edgar had known in his other life named Ludi, but he switched the conversation because it would sound strange if in this life he had called her even though he did not know each other.

Edgar felt he had to wait for the right time to confirm the young man and focus on what he was looking for at the moment.

They both entered the burning blacksmith building, this small building there are only two rooms in it that are not so big, because the work place is mostly in front of this building.

“Hem, so .. I'm sorry, this fire is so surprising because this place looks visible all day is not open.”

“Really? Do you know the owner of this place?”

“Not really, you could say more precisely I am a customer in this place .. wait!”

Ludi looked - look at the contents of the building that was partially charred and saw the roof that looked charred made him stop Edgar who was about to walk past him.

Bruckk!

Bruckk!

“...., That's almost it!”

“It looks like you're right, we better get out.”

Hearing some roof debris that collapsed, making them get out of this building because it feels it will be more dangerous later if hit by building debris.

“Before you said that this place looks closed, but why can this place burn?”

“I do not understand how but at that time my friends and I were in the store and arrived - there was a sound from outside screaming ‘fire!’ It got us all out of the store.”

“Then do you know where the current owner is?”

“Do not know, I told you this place all day closed .. poor old man Liam if he came home to see the place has become charcoal!”

“Wait, what does Liam mean old man who has a fierce face and short stature?”

“Iya it's her right, and she's an old man who uses a prosthetic leg on his right leg.”

Edgar again heard a familiar name in the ear, although it was quite a wonder he heard the name because Liam in his memory was still a knight who was still active military but he thought there would be a possibility of this same Liam because it remembered Albert's message that brought him thither.

“...., you said fake legs?”

“It sounds weird if you know him but it sounds unsure what kind of person he is.”

“No - no, not so .. I just haven't seen him in a long time.”

Edgar looked lethargic with an expression that seemed sad to hear Liam who he knew was really working at this blacksmith and not to mention knowing Liam was using a prosthetic leg plus his hope seemed lost because a person who must be found in this place does not know where he is.

‘It looks like he's having a heavy thing.’

That was what Ludi had in mind when he saw Edgar in shabby clothes and with a condition that looked full of punch wounds on his body, seeing it made Ludi feel Iba saw it let alone heard of an acquaintance from the owner of his subscription blacksmith.

“Isn't it better if we continue our chat in the store ... besides what is your name?”

“Actually it was rude to ask someone else's name before introducing myself .. My name is Edgar.”

“I don't think it applies to people like us .. I'm Ludi! Nice to meet you Edgar.”

Edgar was silent to hear his name, he had guessed that the person was named Ludi, he remembered that it was really Ludi who was in another life. Ludi who at that time helped him when trapped in the forest and together - together beat the bandits who hid in the forest.

Ludi who had lost everything made Edgar invite him to join his army, and became his friend when doing hunting games that Edgar always lost because he was a great hunter and archer.

“...., are you a Ludi hunter?”

“Iya, you could say it's my job, why?”

Edgar's question of wanting to make sure made him feel astonished asked like that, but for Edgar it was a glimmer of hope that he knew his memory was not a false illusion of seeing someone he knew as a friend in front of him.

“Nothing, I saw your arrow so nice and well-groomed, I just guessed.”

“Oh like that, I saw you carrying a sword under that cloak, it looks like you are a mercenary?”

“Iya almost like it's my job.”

Ludi felt like playing a guess - a guess that made him smile amusedly and made Edgar laugh a little in response to Ludi guessing like that.

“You're a pretty interesting guy even if it's a little weird! Let's go to the store!”

“Before Ludi ... actually I don't have any money.”

“Already expected, just calm down if only a drink and a piece of bread I still can, I got a good hunt today, after all drinking together is more fun not.”

Edgar smiled shyly showing he had nothing, but after hearing Ludi's answer made him so relieved because he would treat him, the two of them also walked along with Ludi who was still laughing as he embraced her while walking.
