Mystery of Room 13

Mystery of Room 13
Part 31: Stealing Listen

I dismissed any bad thoughts, maybe Ms. Wati was on a diet because according to the article I read, cemani chicken is very good for people who want to eat animal protein because it is relatively low in fat when compared to cut chicken in general, there are even some rogue traders. They tricked so that the chicken to be sold looks bigger by injecting salt water into it. This method has been around since 1970, they reasoned it to add tenderness to the chicken later. But all of that has not been proven.

I continued cleaning the room that started to get dusty. The old bedsheet I washed and replaced with a new one. The bathroom was also cleaned clean.

"Well, beberes, ma'am. Would you like to stay in this room again?"

Wulan's voice made me stop my activities. "Come, Lan. It's just sunning the sheets. I'll just nitip on top."

"I'm sitting here, Han. It's a little creepy to have to go into your room, considering the events of the past few days since you chose to get out of here."

"Hush, later the story, not here" I remember. Wulan immediately smothered her mouth.

"Gosh, I forgot I was at the scene. I'll ride first, Han."

"Eh, don't leave me. It's just about done. Stay this shit." I quickly swept this room.

After I felt that all the items I needed were already in the backpack and the room was neat and fragrant, I went out of the room to immediately go to Wulan's room.

"Have, Han?" wulan asked as I was locking the door.

"Yes. Let's go up. I miss your same stories."

With a laugh, Wulan and I walked to her room. On the second floor, I suddenly felt like urinating.

"Lan, the bathroom is on the second floor where the hell is it?"

"That's in the corner, next to Bu Wati's room." Immediately I ran to the bathroom. I didn't care about Wulan's laughter that echoed to see me running but by pinching my hands together.

Since earlier when out of the room was already felt like shitting. However, I was lazy to have to go into a room that was enough to make this hair goosebumps again. I thought I would survive to Wulan's room, in fact I was wrong once on the second floor it felt unbearable. Fortunately, the second floor is special for rooms with shared bathrooms and outside.

It felt good to be able to throw away a wish but when I came out of the bathroom faint I heard someone talking. The voice came from Bu Wati.

"Ba-good, Sir. I'm trying tonight to perform my ritual but..." Bu Wati's voice was cut off. I tried to sharpen my hearing because from the beginning I saw the black chicken I felt something trying to be hidden by the woman who was still single.

"He's back, it'll be hard if he's around, sir." I scrunched my forehead trying to compose sentence after sentence Bu Wati. Earlier when I saw me in the room, he looked so surprised and did not seem to like my presence in this index. Now he's reporting to me who said someone's back. Ah my mind is fucked up.

"It's really been you, Han. Until the moss I wait on the stairs. You're standing at the door."

I hurriedly gestured by sticking my finger to the lips, hoping that Wulan would be quiet first. Because I'm still curious about the conversation of Bu Wati who seems to be connected by phone.

"What's wrong?" whispered after standing near me.

"Shut up first. Let's hear Mrs Wati talk to who she used to be. I'm curious this has something to do with the cemani chicken he brought earlier."

Samar returned I heard Mrs Wati's voice, "Yes, I'll try as you hint."

After it was silent, it seemed like the conversation had stopped. Moments later I could hear though it was only faint, Ms. Wati muttered, "How can I make the room empty let all my plans and master go smoothly. Do I just break the tap or pretend to be a ghost, but what if after that the residents replace haunting me. Ah dizzy. I'd better get out for the wind, who knows if I'll find a way out. Anyway, I'm surprised it's been a few days safe why it's different now. Ah mumet's. Where is my jacket?"

The words of Bu Wati who seemed to be going out of the room made me and Wulan look at each other. Immediately I pulled the woman's hand to immediately go upstairs.

"Don't rowdy. We run it while we just tipjit. Just don't be thumped."

My words were responded with a nod of Wulan. Fortunately, when we were on the last steps, we heard the sound of the door being opened.

"Congratulations, Ms. Wati doesn't seem to know that we just stole the listen." I saw Mrs Wati walking without looking at the stairs.

"Let's go in first. I need a lot of drinks."

The still stingy breath was heard so clearly in Wulan's room. A glass of water helped me and Wulan to re-regulate this almost severed breath.

"Crazy, we are like a chicken mane that runs away because of fear of being exposed to mass tantrums," I said, leaning my head against the wall, while my hand continued to massage the trembling ankles. Because only this time running but with the position of the toe so as not to be noisy.

"It's just that we're both not fit to be running athletes, we're running from reality."

The laughter broke because we remembered our silly behavior earlier. A moment after the laughter there was a sudden silence. Me and Wulan were both busy with our thoughts.

"Perhaps, Ms. Wati wants to hold a ghost repellent ritual. These few days almost all the inhabitants of the senses hear the sound of crying coming from your room."

"But not according to myth cemani chicken is not used as a means of repellent but instead invites invisible creatures. Even for some believers, black chicken is food for them, then..."

"Already, Han. So goosebumps with our discussion even though it's still daytime I'm still afraid. Let's just tell you something funny, yuk."

Wulan was right, we better look for another topic of conversation even though so many questions about the ritual to be performed by Bu Wati and the person he called the master, sometimes still seeped in the mind.

"Han, tomorrow is my birthday. How about we give you a surprise? Actually I wanted to give him a gift but was confused."

"Well, really. I haven't bought anything for her gift. Next month, he's gonna..." Instantly I remembered Intan's message that prevented me from talking about her marriage to Wulan.

"What does he want next month?"

Wulan's questions convinced me that Intan had not told Wulan her wedding plans. Actually Intan has not told this happy news, even though Wulan is the girl's roommate from Wonogiri.

"A-anu, that's okay," I replied with a slight stammer.

"Really?"

"Yes. If anything matters, he must have told you first, didn't he, Lan?"

"Yes, yes, too. Intan promised me she'd tell me everything, there's no secret between the two of us."

I let out a long sigh, because I knew Intan had hidden a big fact from Wulan, which is a wedding that Intan and her lover, Adnan, will soon be holding. Only Intan knows why he did this.

"Lan, how about we go out to reward Intan. I don't have anything for him yet."

My proposal was well received by Wulan. We decided to go to a fairly large convenience store in the city. All needs are complete in one place. It is a little expensive compared to the market, but the quality of goods on display is more guaranteed which is one important thing again is that in the supermarket I do not need to bid on goods as is commonly done by mothers who shop in traditional markets. There is no term of cost because it cannot bid, here all prices are listed on all products, including clothes are in this place.

"Well, are we leaving now?" I'm nodding. We both went back out of the room, walking in tandem towards the parking area that was prepared by the owner of this index. I and Wulan accidentally met Ms. Wati. I don't know why suddenly I was clumsy because I had stolen the hearing of his conversation with someone over the phone. My eyes did not dare to look at the face that was beginning to be adorned by those wrinkles.

"Where are you going, Sister Hanna? Would you like to go back to his friend's house, right? You know..."

"No-no, Mom. I'm the same Wulan wants to go to the supermarket for a while."

"Oh, Kirain is going there. Then tonight's sleeping here?"

Just as my mouth was open about to answer Miss Wati's question, Wulan shouted at me.

"Han, hurry!" I hurriedly approached the woman and did not forget to say goodbye to Bu Wati.

Shopping does take a lot of time even though it only buys a piece of checkered patterned women's shirt as a birthday gift for Intan.

It was dark when Wulan and I came out of the supermarket. On the way home we stopped by the Lesehan stall to silence the worms who had been protesting in my stomach. My feet are sore because from there to here just to find the best gift for Intan. I put my foot under the table, but my leg hit something. As I looked up at the table, my eyes were wide open and I almost cried when I looked under the long table. A pocong fell asleep under the table. His red eyes stared intently and his lips grinned horribly.

"Wulan, the food's wrapped. I have a stomachache."

"Suddenly, Han. Rarely can we eat out like this."

"Let me tell you in indekos."

My eyes now continue to stare at the crackle that contains the rice. There is doubt, whether the food is better I throw it away but if that's what I choose, then the one residing in my stomach will be more and more rumbling.

"Lan, this is the food I just throw away?" I asked when the Wulan motorbike had gone a little far from the lesehan.

"What the hell are you, Han? Just said hunger kept in the shop you said stomach pain and now you want to throw away the food, what's up? Is there a problem with the food?"

"The problem was that I saw a pocong lying under the table. I'm afraid the stall uses a seller. Which makes me even more astonished, that pocong is the same as the one I saw at the factory the other day."
