After the silence passed for about a few minutes. Aldrich took a deep breath, making Maribel who heard him, knock his lips— scared and felt guilty.
Maribel was afraid that Aldrich would be angry over his lies and he also felt guilty for playing with his beliefs.
Aldrich really doesn't understand how the girl's brain works. Just looking at her beautiful face filled with innocence, one thing came to mind. The girl had a naivety that reminded her of her mother.
"Go"
"Huh?" Maribel was a little surprised by what she had just heard. The man... told her to leave?
Aldrich's brown eyes stared at Maribel's large black eyes with a flat, distant look, "I'll assume this stupidity you've done never happened. Therefore, go"
Maribel's eyelashes are blaring. It doesn't fit what he thinks. He almost thought, perhaps Aldrich would temper— with his cold gaze coming closer, whispering gripping words that were ready to stab into his bones like ice. But this ...
"W-will you not punish my actions?"
"No"
One corner of Maribel's lips moved faintly, almost like it was about to smile. But before that...
"In exchange, I don't want to see your form appear before me anymore"
Just as it vanished. Instead of forgiveness, it sounded more like a punishment ready to blow his world to shapelessness.
For a moment Maribel was in a turbulent mess.
"Done your stuff and get rid of it!" Aldrich got up from his seat and rushed up the stairs to the top floor.
Staring at Aldrich's strapping back that gradually disappeared from view. Maribel pressed against her aching chest.
'It turns out, it's like this heartbreak pain'
Maribel went with her heart to her room, tidied up her belongings and called Callie to come pick her up.
"You no longer want to play a role?" Callie helped put Maribel's big suitcase into the back trunk.
"Not anymore"
Callie opened her mouth, just about to ask something more like a joke. But noticing Maribel's sadness, she pursed her lips and said nothing.
......................
Days passed, Maribel busied herself in the company from morning to night for almost a full week. He goes to great lengths to brush aside the shadows of marrying Aldrich in his imagination by doing a series of brain-draining jobs.
But nil. Aldrich's shadow kissed her sweet forehead and held her warm, just crossed her mind like real.
If that was the case, Aldrich closed the document in his hand and stood in front of the glass wall, staring at the atmosphere of the night city from the floor where he worked. He hugged himself with a form of loneliness and did not expect his feelings that would be that deep for the person he first knew.
"Haa, I seem to know too few men. Maybe that's why this happened"
Maribel pulled out her phone and called Callie.
"Yes, mom? Is there anything important until you call me?" Callie just got to bed. He knows lately Maribel's been working overtime to get his mind off. He had guessed that the current young CEO must still be in the company.
"Please arrange a blind date for me"
"Yes?" Callie was almost like she had just shouted.
"I want to be able to attend tomorrow"
"Tap— but Ma'am..."
Tut tut's..
Call disconnected.
She had never been on a blind date before and her heartbroken CEO had just asked...
"Haa, this is really driving me crazy"
Callie was sitting limp on the edge of the bed and staring at the screen of her phone lethargic, "Why should it be once tomorrow?"
"Where should I find a man for his blind date partner?"
"No, that's not what matters. Blind date? This is outside of work. I don't work for this. I shouldn't have been—"
Callie breathed heavily.
"For the first time I regretted the position of secretary"
Because of Maribel's sudden request, Callie almost stayed up all night. Looking for a series of male profiles that he can compare with Maribel. That's quite difficult, since most of them are established and successful men who already have wives.
That night, Callie was completely helpless.
......................
"What's my next schedule?" The elevator door clinks open and Maribel steps out with Callie beside her who is holding the tablet.
"The next schedule is your blind date. Two o'clock in the afternoon at the diamond restaurant"
Maribel stopped her steps, "You managed to set her up?" Maribel thought Callie would apologize to him for failing and ask for more time.
But very unexpectedly, the woman succeeded.
"Yes, I'm trying so hard to do it for you"
"Thank you" Maribel smiled sincerely.
"He's one of the highest paid lawyers in J. Maybe his position still cannot be juxtaposed—"
"No problem" Cut Maribel.
"..."
"As long as he's someone sincere, that's more than enough"
The two men were unaware. That behind the huge ornamental flower beside the wall, had been hiding Breta who stole their conversation.
Breta smiled cynically, pulled out her phone and typed a message to her husband.
'I think my nephew can't wait to get married'
'Should we help him?'
Maribel has arrived at the restaurant where her blind date appointment has been arranged by Callie. The clock hasn't shown two o'clock exactly and her dating partner hasn't arrived yet. While waiting, he ordered lemon water and played his phone.
Notifications from Callie also appeared.
'This guy is an acquaintance of my friend, he didn't know you were a CEO. I deliberately didn't tell you your identity'
'May it work'
Maribel smiled reading her message and replied.
'Thank you' while adding a smile emoji.
"What is this about Miss Maribel?"
