I'M Not A Special Character
The Gerryn Crime Center

Arland held his breath staring at the half-finished building in front of him. According to Marchel aka Michael who is with him at this time, the building was built specifically for Gerryn. Arland still did not understand why to build a semi-finished building like that. The place now is just plain looking, nothing suspicious.

They continued to walk closer to the stairs towards the floor above him. Arland just followed without asking much. How shocked Arland was when they arrived on the second floor. This building looks old as if it was just abandoned. But who would have thought this building turned out to save a lot of surprises.

Right in the middle of the room there are rusty iron bars with long chains that surround it but not like ordinary bars, these bars are made with a size that only fits in by one person. Really narrow makes Arland feel tight if he imagines going in there.

If observed better on the inside of the bars there are human bones complete with the skull. Arland who had just seen the apparition instantly gulped his saliva roughly.

Marchel walked closer to the rusty iron bars, while Arland was unmoved in place. After being right in front of the bars Marchel turned his body to look at Arland. The deathly pale complexion that Arland showed did not escape Marchel's vision.

"What's with that expression on your face?"

"What kind of fucking place is this?!" After a long time Arland was stunned staring at the iron bars, he finally dared to open his voice asking a second time because he felt disbelief with what he saw.

"I explained it, didn't I? this is a place that was built specifically for that girl." Marchel stared boredly at Arland, thinking Arland understood the veiled intention of inviting him to this place.

"Well what does this place have to do with telling the reason why Gerryn was the target?! don't play me you son of a bitch!" Arland was already unable to hold his sense of regret, the person in front of him had too many indirect pleasantries at the core.

"Of course everything is related. Wouldn't it be better if I told the truth on the scene in real terms?" Marchel again showed her cursed grin.

"Not a lot of nonsense! I don't have much time left just to listen to the chatter!" Arland hardened his jaw, looking at Marchel with annoyance.

"Alright, listen to this carefully." Marchel reached into his pocket, took out a tape and a tape player, not to forget also the earphones that came out of the large pocket in Marchel's suit.

Arland received it, putting earphones comfortably in both ears.

Tape rotated.

Zzzztt!!

.........

["Please forgive me! Sorry for just this once! I'll do whatever you want!"]

There was the voice of the old woman who was pleading with the sound of crying.

[BRAAAC!!]

["You think I'm a fool, huh? You hid the money for your granddaughter without my knowledge! You old fucking jackass!"]

The voice of a girl who was not foreign in his ears made Arland turn away instantly. He knew the owner of the voice who was none other than Gerryn.

["I don't want to know. You have to replace it or pay for all that money by selling your body parts!"]

["I didn't take it that much!"]

The sound of sobs is back heard. Arland who heard that spontaneously covered his face with his palm. What he was hearing right now, really Arland did not want to believe him. But this is proof, a proof that he cannot refute.

Silent moment.

Then the sound of the tape came back silent for a few moments. Like a pause before going into the next recording.

["Hey, stop that! You're too over your limits!"]

This time the voice of a girl who was shouting was heard from the earphone speaker until captured by Arland's hearing.

["You're the one who crossed the line!"]

["YARRGHHH!!"]

After Gerryn's voice was heard, then followed by the moaning of a man who sounded in pain.

["No! Nah! Unhand her! Are you still human?"]

["Call me as you please. This is my job!"]

After that the tape recording is at the end. Although Arland did not know what was going on, but Arland could deduce one thing. A conclusion that says that Gerryn is not the girl he has always known.

Then Arland turned his attention back to the bars behind Marchel, staring at the pile of bones in it as he continued to replay the recording in his head.

Instantly Arland felt nauseous, but he tried to hold it. Rather than that, Arland needed to ask a few things to the person who was now in front of him.

"The voice, like Gerryn's, says that what he does is his job. What kind of job is that? And where did you get this voice recording?" Arland looked at Marchel probing. However, Marchel countered that stare with a slow snort and ruckus.

"You don't need to know what his job is. What is certain here is about the girl's speed as our target. Then you asked me where did I get the tape? It's funny." Marchel covered her mouth with her fingers, looking at Arland with narrowed eyes. Such a gaze and attitude was not the attitude of an ordinary High School boy.

Seeing Marchel made Arland inching back. Marchel's every move always made him feel more alert.

"What's the funny part about that?"

"You! You're the funny one here. How could you forget that I was an agent? Do you think being an agent can be done by just anyone? We are specially trained for these kinds of things. Your question besides pissing me off but it also sounds really silly." Marchel spat right in front of Arland.

"Now keep your promise."

"What if I deny it?"

"Well, I won't say much. You just have to wait for something bad to happen to you." Marchel took out a cigarette from his pocket complete with a match.

Arland could only flinch with it. He had no idea what Marchel was hiding or how dangerous he was. Arland did not want to take any risks, but he also did not want to sacrifice Arsiel just for his selfishness.

Silent for a while. No conversation was heard other than the sound of Marchel inhaling cigarette smoke.

"Alright, the decision remains with you. I have fulfilled my promise, and if you dare to renege on the promise that has been agreed, then accept the consequences yourself." Marchel threw away his cigarette butts in any place, still leaving the tip of the cigarette lit. He walked away from Arland without looking back at him in the slightest.

Arland remained. He just stared at Marchel's back from a distance. No one realized that their conversation had leaked into Arsiel's ears.

"What are you planning, Mister Michael?"
