When she heard the sound of the door opening and closing, Kirana let tears fall down her cheeks. Married to Miles? Why didn't the man give up too? He has answered not many times. He has rejected it repeatedly. Now what should he do? If Miles applied again, what more reason would he say? He did not dare to tell the truth. Saying the true reason would only open up his own weaknesses.
She's afraid. He was so scared all this was just a dream. She had gotten used to waking up from a beautiful dream only to wet her pillow with tears. How could a man as perfect as Miles love an imperfect woman like him? As he walked, all the women who passed him could not take their eyes off of him. He was perfect physically, soul, and heart. Yes, no human is perfect. He also often makes mistakes. But he regretted it and tried his best to fix it.
He doesn't deserve to be with her. Whether there are children or not, they do not fit in. One day he will wake up from that dream. When that happened, how did he manage his life again? So, it was better from the start that he prevented it before everything started. Keep his heart from getting hurt when he loses Miles. Protecting William from grieving when his father leaves him.
After finishing his breakfast, he leaned his body on the lounge chair. A gentle breeze calmed him down. The warmth of the sun made him sleepy. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the sunny weather that day. When she opened her eyes for a while, she was surprised that she was lying on the bed. He pushed his body to sit down and looked around. There was no one in the room but him.
As he climbed down the stairs he heard a laugh from behind one of the doors. He approached and placed his ear on the door. Convinced that he picked the right door, he knocked on it. The voice inside was silent, a sign of him knocking on the right door. He opened the door and saw it was the dining room. Miles and William sat around the table. Food on the table.
“Hai, Mom!” william was happy. “This lunch is great!”
“Sit.” Miles stood up and opened the seat beside him for her. Kirana nodded and sat down.
“Do not eat too much. Your stomach will hurt, Will. Eat enough.” Kirana thanked Wanda who filled her glass with orange juice.
“Iya, Mom. Dad also said so.” reports William proudly. From the corner of her eyes, Kirana could see Miles looking at her. Kirana looked down and sipped her juice.
“You didn't eat?” ask Miles. Without answering, Kirana filled her plate with a large spoonful of fettuccine. The man frowned.
“Mom, Dad said we're going to the mall this afternoon. Dad said I could buy some new books. But I have to ask you for permission. Can you, huh, Mom? I need a new crayon, too. My black crayon is up.”
“Of course it can.” said Kirana who soon followed William's happy cheers. He then spooned a few pieces of tomato sauce meat balls onto the fettuccine.
“I'm done eating, Dad. Can I watch now?” ask William expectantly. Miles looked at the plate. Then smile with satisfaction.
“Bby. But I still eat.” Miles looked at his own plate.
“Tante Wanda can help me turn on the movie.” William proposes.
“Try me if he wants to help you.” Miles laughed a little.
“Tante Wanda, help me turn on the movie, huh? I beg you.” William said with his adorable big eyes. Wanda laughed, looking at it.
“Of course can.” Wanda extended her hand to him. “Ayo.” William took his hand without hesitation.
“Thank you, Wanda.” said Miles in gratitude. William jumped up and down happily following the woman out of the dining room. The man then turned his head towards Kirana who was enjoying her food. “Are you okay?”
“Sorry, the news must have surprised you. I didn't mean to be selfish by forcing you to marry me. I love you and I don't want to make you sad. I beg you, forgive me, Kirana.” said Miles sincerely. Kirana just nodded slowly.
Miles waited for Kirana to finish her meal. Another woman then walked into the dining room and on the orders of her master tidied the dining table. As Kirana was about to stand up, Miles touched her hand. Kirana turned her head and saw the man looking at her with a serious face. Oh. He'll want to talk now. No William, they can talk freely. After the woman left the dining room, there were only the two of them.
“You cried in the pool. Why?” ask Miles to know.
“Not a big thing.” replied Kirana.
“You didn't cry like other candidates when I interviewed you with severe, cornering questions. If you cry, there must be a big problem here. What's up, Kirana?” push Miles.
“I don't want to talk about it.” Kirana closed her lips. Miles nodded slowly.
“Good. I changed the question.” Miles relented. He placed his other hand on top of their interlocked hands. His eyes softened. “Why won't you marry me?”
Kirana's lips twitched. She bit her lips holding back the tears that urged her to come out. “A, I don't want to talk about that either.”
“The first thing I let pass. Not with this one.” He refused his request.
“You're a bitch, Miles.” Kirana said in a hoarse voice.
“I take that as a compliment.” Miles looked at him seriously. “Why, Kirana?”
“I'm scared, okay.” I'm Kirana. Tears fell on both of her cheeks. “See yourself. You're so handsome, you're smart, your body's good, you're rich, you're successful. Everything a woman wants is on you. You should marry a woman like Angelica. Beautiful, comes from a well-respected, wealthy family, and polite. That kind of woman that fits you, Miles.”
“Then I cannot marry you? I can only marry a woman who, in the opinion of others, is my ideal wife? So?” challenge Miles. Kirana pulled her hand from the man's grasp. But Miles won't let go.
“Can't you see me?” Kirana pointed at her face with her free hand. “I'm just an ordinary woman, not attractive at all. If everyone who runs into you can't take their eyes off you, I'm the other way around. No one's looking at me, Miles. Not those who have seen me, not those who have known me for years. That's the difference we.”
“Just because other men can't see anything as valuable as I see you, doesn't mean I'm the same as them.” Miles said unequivocally. “You are precious to me, Kirana. Not replaced. I never really wanted a woman to be my wife. Not even when I married Angelica. The woman that so many people think fits me so well.”
“When my eyes see you, I cannot turn away from you, since I first looked at you in that restaurant, until this very second. You are beautiful, charming, and mysterious. You were so confident that you pulled me closer and I had no power to resist. I don't know why you can't realize your own charm. But that's what makes you different. I don't care if they can't see what I see. Those who are losing. I'm lucky, I don't have to compete hard to get you.”
“I'm not beautiful, I'm not charming.” protest Kirana. “If other women like to be lied to with false compliments, I am not such a woman.”
