38.The Missing Smile

Seconds..

Minute..

The clock..

Rain drops seemed to represent the deep sadness that Louise was feeling.Time continues to pass, even a cold wind as if no longer felt by her.Louise no longer shed tears, she said,just quietly hugging the body of the only brother who was lying lifeless with a blank look.

The light of a mobi was seen from afar after a few hours the road was empty.The car sounded the horn, but Louis remained unmoved.

The car stopped, and a woman got out of the car.

"Oh my God!!!"the woman covered her mouth in surprise when she saw someone's body lying on the street and rushed over to them.

The woman approached Louise who was sitting quietly behind her and wanted to help.

"Yes god..Louise.."her thesis then circled Louise and squatted in front of Louise.The woman was surprised to see the state of Louise and Nick who were in her lap.

The woman turned out to be Goldie's aunt who had just returned after her affairs were done.

"We're going to the hospital now" Goldie said quickly as she rolled up the levee to lift Nick's body.However, Louise brushed Goldie off.

"Louise..let aunty help, okay?We're going to the hospital to treat her" Goldie said gently and still unsuccessfully to get Louise to release Nick from her hand.

One hand quickly pressed the phone to call the ambulance and said they were in need of immediate medical help when the call was connected.

"Louise, the aunt has called an ambulance.They will come soon." said Goldie rubbed Louise's head and pulled Louise's arm intending to calm her.However, Louise remained unmoved, not releasing Nick from her embrace.

The sound of the ambulance sounded loud along with the rain that began to subside.Bibi Goldie pulled Louise's arm to make it easier for hospital staff to move Nick's body.However, Louise still did not want to let go of her hand.

"Louise, let them help, they'll help your brother.You can stay in the hospital in aunt's car.Louise will you?"ask Goldie gently.

Her heart was sliced at the pale face of Louise and her soaking wet body.Slowly Louise shook her head weakly.

Goldie widened her eyes of disbelief.By gesturing for the nun who came to the place to check on Nick's state, the sorter nodded in understanding.

The nurse examined Nick and sighed softly and stood up to Goldie, not wanting to add to Louise's grief, the nurse whispered to Goldie.

"Sorry madam, he has.." The sorter took a good look at his sentence and shook his head weakly."My estimate was 3 hours ago." added the nurse.

Goldie's body slumped, covered her mouth and fell down with tears in her eyes.

"No way." he muttered.

"Let us help the madam, at least we will clean her wound" said the nurse gently."But, before that we must help this little lady to treat.His right leg is injured.I am afraid the wound will worsen if not immediately overcome." said the nurse with glassy eyes.

Goldie humps weakly and persuades Louise to release Nick.However, Louise remains unmoving in the slightest.

'Even small coercions will not be good for the moment.What should I do?'thought.

Some people started to arrive because of the sound of the ambulance, even the police came to investigate what had happened.People who saw Louise felt pity and tried to persuade her to let go of her embrace.

Louise did not respond to anything other than to tighten her embrace on Nick's head which was on his lap without a sound.

The sister tries to release Louise's hand with her own hand aided by the ambulance driver.However, Louise insists on not letting go of her hand.As if saying no one should touch her brother.

"Enough, don't go on anymore" said the sister giving up."Too forcing it will not be good.We have to find another way." said the sister again.

"I can't imagine a kid this small having to go through something terrible like this" said the driver quietly.

"Mrs, can anyone persuade him?Maybe someone close to her?"ask the sisters to Goldie.

Goldie calmed herself down and thought hard.Goldie who felt failed to persuade Louise shook her head sadly.

"The only way left is to give her a sedative" said the nurse.

"Wait."prevent Goldie suddenly remembered Chris's face.

Without a second thought and no matter what time it was, Goldie contacted Chris' house.

It took a while for the phone to pick up.

"Hallo.."heavy voice answered Goldie's phone.

"It's me, Goldie.Please wake up Chris, I want to talk" Goldie said raucously.

"What's wrong?What's going on?"tanyanya tense.

"A-A-there was an accident on xx.Please bring Chris here.I beg you hurry."Goldie spoke faltered, failing to control her grief.

The call was cut off, but Goldie was relieved to know Chris was coming soon.

Shortly thereafter,chris came out still wearing pajamas followed his parents.How surprised they were when they arrived there and saw what was in front of them.Without asking them they understood why Chris had to come.

Chris tried to calm his own heart and then with a heart approached Louise.Kneel in front of Louise and put her hands on the hands of Louise who felt cold.Slowly Chris rubbed his head gently.

"Hey,, Louise.."call Chris quietly."I'm here.You're not alone.Remember, right?"Chris said with a heart and forced himself to smile.

"We're moving from here to a warmer place, huh?Wouldn't continuing like this make him cold?"Chris said quietly without letting go of his hand.

Chris' words actually make Louise more tightly hug Nick and look down deeply.

"Louise...Please.."ask Chris.

Louise remained unmoved and made no sound at all.Tears flowed from Chris' eyes.

"Don't be like this Louise.She won't like it." said Chris softly.

Silent...

Chris looked at Goldie then shook his head weakly.Old Chris shed tears looking at the incident.Even the people who were there failed to hide their sadness.

Feeling no other choice, Goldie allowed the nurse to give her a sedative.However, after the sedative was injected into Louise's body, she did not lose consciousness,just loosening his arms to make it easier to move Nick's body.Even when Nick's body is lifted, Louise can still walk after those who carry Nick's body.

Shocked, touched, heba, sad.Everyone who saw the incident felt all the emotions in their hearts spilled into one.

'How can a sedative have no effect on it?'sister said in her heart.

"I will accompany him." said Chris interjected and clasped Louise's hand which remained silent.

Sister who is still amazed can only shake without a sound.Goldie and Chris' parents follow the ambulance from behind, while Chris and Louise get into the ambulance.

When he arrived at the hospital, Louise according to when asked to treat his injuries.Without complaining or grimacing pain during the treatment process takes place, he said,Louise just stared blankly without expression.Chris could not say anything to Louise other than staring sadly.Anything much Chris spoke, the slightest response from Louise was invisible.

Until the funeral process takes place Louise looks at her brother for the last time and tears begin to roll.Chris hugs Louise from behind trying to calm him.Louise's body droops to coincide with the end of Nick's funeral procession.

"LOUISEE..."Chris exclaims in panic as Louise's body limps unconscious and immediately takes her to the hospital.

During Louise's treatment, Chris always accompanies her.The doctor's words to her make Chris determined he must be the best doctor according to his promise to Nick.

"She fainted due to the sedative effect she was given.His right leg had a crack.But she will be fine as long as you also help her to feel good.That will further speed up the healing process."the doctor said when Chris asked Louise.

Chris returned to accompany Louise who was still unconscious to fall asleep with a sitting position and hands gripping Louise's hands.When arriving Louise's hands tremble and tighten his grip on Chris' hands to make him wake up.

"Louise.."call Chris while getting up from his seat.

"Hey..Louise.."call Chris again patting Louise on the cheek.

Worried that something might happen, Chris intends to call the doctor.However, Louise does not let go of Chris.Louise's eyes flow back.Make Chris undo his intentions.

"I'm not going where Louise is." said Chris quietly."Did you have a bad dream?"ask Chris quietly."I'm not leaving you.You trust me, right?"continued.

Chris understood very well, Louise was not fully aware.However, Chris was sure Louise heard it.Evidently when Chris finished saying that, her trembling gradually stopped and Louise began to calm down.

"I'll stay here until you wake up.Okay?"chris said again.

Chris wiped away the flowing tears, and gently rubbed his head like Nick used to do when Louise had nightmares.

"What should I do now Nick?"chris murmured softly holding back his tears.

"It's been three days of rhyme he fainted.Tell me what am I supposed to do?"Chris nodded again.

Taking a deep breath and exhaling it slowly, Chris calms his heart.Tak want Louise more sad if you see it like this.Thus Chris finally back to sleep because of fatigue.

....the next day....

Chris wakes up in the morning without seeing Louise in the bed where Louise should be.A blanket is actually on Chris' shoulder, covering part of his body.

"Louise...!!!"Chris exclaimed as he got up from his seat and checked the bathroom.

"Louis, are you inside?"chris asked and opened the door...

Chris began to worry when he realized the infusion that was originally installed in Louise's hand was still beside the bed.

"Where are you Louise?"chris murmured and went out of the room to look for Louise.

"How could I not be aware when Louise wakes up?"grunts to yourself.

Chris walked down the hospital corridor with his eyes looking for Louise until he almost ran over a nurse who had just come out of another patient's room.

"I'm sorry" said Chris.

"It's okay.But please be careful.It's a hospital." said the nurse.

"Wanted your sister?"the nurse asked Chris to surprise him.

'Stupid, I should have asked the nurse, why am I panicking by myself?'chris grumbled in his heart.

"L-Iya.Suster knows where he is?"ask Chris.

"He said he wanted to walk in the back garden, but he also insisted on taking off the infusion and not waking you up.But, we kept our eyes on him quietly" replied the nurse.

"Thank you sister" said Chris and went to the park.

"Hahahhhhhhah..I still remember them because I was taking care of their sister too.Pity once."slowly the sister.

Chris ran towards the park and saw Louis sitting on a long bench behind him.With a slow step, Chris approached Louise.

"Son Chris is awake?You sleepyhead." said Louise without turning her head.

Chris grabbed Louis' shoulder and turned it to face him.Louise smiled at Chris who widened his eyes.

"Did Louise look that scary?"louise asked softly.

"Sister Chris sat here." said Louise patting the empty spot beside her.

"The air is fresh" Louise said.

'What's this?Why is Louise like this?I don't recognize that smile.What should I do?'whispered heart.

"Why are you here, Louise?"chris sat next to Louise.

"Read this." replied Louise showing the book in her hand.

"Sherlock Holmes?"chris asked, frowning."You read that?"ask Chris astonished.

"Yes, the book is good." replied Louise.

"Why not just read it inside?"ask Chris.

"I'm bored inside.Can I go home today?"ask Louise.

"We ask the doctor first whether you can go home today or not.Okay?"said Chris.

Louise nodded and started reading again until someone called them back to the room.

The doctor who treated Louise allowed Louise to come home after lunch

Chris, who is still worried, asks Louise to stay at his house, but it actually makes Louise finally know that Chris will move because Chris' father gets a job elsewhere.
