The Last Heirloom's
1. The Last Son and Guide

It was midnight, when the cities were quiet. Flashing lights and light shimmered in the middle of the darkness, making this dense city like it was bathed in a colorful light.

Vehicle traffic is getting rare, but some people who are jacking still look stumbling in the narrow alley area. Seeing the staggering gurgles they were definitely drunk. 

The youth did have their own time of becoming uncontrollable. They struggle with the situation to find the identity that is still hidden. Not infrequently they have to struggle with the rigors of life and fall in a gloomy life. 

In the high distance, someone was standing relaxed while sipping a cigarette that was almost finished. A young man was watching a mob of children enjoying their oplosan from a rooftop. 

I don't know what the young man was doing there, but he didn't seem afraid. It was as if he was used to hanging out in a dark height. Or maybe he did it for the sake of fresh air, because this country is quite hot compared to some countries that he had visited before.

But it's still weird, hanging out on someone else's roof.

His dense black hair moved beautifully as the wind gushed slowly. His face was invisible as it was covered by a dark shadow. His posture is ordinary, not sturdy and also not thin. Its height may be about 178 cm. From his appearance he can still be said to be suitable as a student. 

His name was Kai Gamma Majoris. He is no ordinary Earth person. Unless he comes to this place just stop for the sake of carrying out his unfinished duties. 

He came from a place called Amalthea. A hidden place outside the Earth's lands. Amalthea has experienced decades of economic crisis and also a crisis of justice. Great wars have been fought over land and natural resources that are shrinking. And now his people live in poverty and far from safe. 

The main trigger is due to the civil war that occurred between Queen Amalthea, Aria Lorelei with her two younger siblings Hugo Lorelei and Edward Lorelei who want the throne. However, Queen Aria preferred Edward as her successor later, because he was indeed the next lineage and had a wiser attitude than the youngest brother. 

But Hugo Lorelei did not accept it. He steals the Emrys, an immortal heirloom that becomes the center of life for Amalthea and her people. A great battle ensues between Edward and Hugo's forces, which ends with Edward's tragic death. He sacrifices himself and manages to imprison Hugo in the Black Cliff before his death picks up. 

Even so, Hugo has managed to split the Emrys heirloom and hide it in different places. His loyal followers then hide themselves somewhere. They will wait until the time comes for their Master to be freed from the prison of the Black Cliffs. 

The single largest shard of Emrys can be saved by the Queen. He then implanted it in his own body so that Hugo or his followers no one could steal it. 

And now, the Queen is in misery. His body and soul were dying as the Emrys shards within his body started to weaken. He sacrificed himself so that Amalthea could survive. 

Amalthea needed the remaining eleven shards. If not, then Amalthea could be destroyed and Queen Aria would meet her end. If that happens, Hugo Lorelei will rise and all his plans to seize the land of Amalthea will be realized.

Kai and his ten brothers have been chosen to be the Emrys Tracker. Only descendants of the Gamma family can find the Emrys shards, because their ancestors made the heirloom. And the Gamma family is one of the descendants of great witches who are rarely found in the land of Amalthea.

But for almost 3 years Kai adventured in several parts of the Earth, he never found the last shards of Emrys. Some of his brothers had succeeded and brought the fragments they found to Amalthea.

Kai let out a rough sigh, he grew even more frustrated when he remembered that. His right hand reached back into his pocket, almost taking out another cigarette because the previous one had run out. But a soft voice immediately reprimanded his actions.

"You've spent three bars in just 30 minutes. Your addiction to cigarettes has been very bad. Don't let you die before you finish the job."

The sharp rebuke made Kai just cleared his throat slowly while returning a rude snort. But he did not end up taking his cigarette. Then choose to pull the left hand to see what time it is. 

"It's almost two o'clock, but there's no visible sign around here. I'm getting sleepy, standing here is boring me. If you had a panacea other than cigarettes, I might be strong enough to stay up until the next morning. Because I can't drink the black liquid that these people used to drink."

"It's been almost three years, but you still hate coffee?"

"I'm traumatized. And I'll never drink it again." 

"Amalthea's got more efficacious than that. Want me to serve?" 

Kai glanced at the empty space beside him. Since then the sound that was heard was not visible. Making the young man seem to be talking to an invisible figure. 

"Nobody's here. Why are you still selling so expensive?" 

The sharp innuendo instantly made the empty space to Kai's left display a cute beast so valued by thousands of humans. Yes, a dark gray-haired cat with bright yellow eyes looked at Kai with an expression that an ordinary cat would certainly not have. 

The cat sat straight like a noble enjoying the view. On the forehead is engraved a different color of feathers whose shape is quite unique. It could be said to resemble a rather complicated symbol described. 

The cat is magical. He can speak, have his own thoughts, and can change the form or eliminate its form. But for the people of Amalthea it is not something special. They call it a guide. 

The magicians of Amalthea have their own guide which has different shapes and forms. Each guide also has a different level and usefulness. It depends on the work and how the witches live. 

But the main role of a real Guide, they are souls divided from their owners. They have a strong bond with their owners. The guide appears since the new owner was born. If the owner is sick, then most likely the Guide will also experience the same thing. 

And if the Guide is in a dying state it indicates that their owner is in a bad state or near death. If the owner dies, the Guide dies. However, a Guide can die first from its owner. 

"Do you think we should move again? It's been almost three months, but no Emrys signal has been tracked in this area" the cat said. 

"You feel at home here?" 

"I didn't say that." 

"Then?" 

"My savings are really thinning, Rex." 

This time the magical cat named Rex was snorting with a funny face. He looked back at the owner who was leaning his body on the roof of the house. 

"Of course it's thinning because you've been unemployed for almost two months. It's your voting nature that makes you end up unemployed. Your work experience has been a lot, I'm sure you can get a lot of decent work in this place. The cost of living in this country is much cheaper than some of the places we have been to. And most importantly, the people here are very flattering to the newcomers."

"I know that." 

"Then why are you still grumbling and not working? Or are you thinking that's not really it? But the news that your brothers are close to finding a fragment of the Emrys Heirloom. Am I wrong?" 

Rex looked at Kai, approached and sat down near his owner's shoulder. But Kai closed his eyes, lowering his front hair to the face. Rex impatiently uses his tail to slap Kai in the face. 

"Hachuu…" 

Kai got up in annoyance as his hands rubbed his nose and face. 

"Could stop doing that! I'm tickled by your fur!" sergeant Kai riled, still with a movement rubbing the nose because he felt like sneezing back. 

"That's a reward for the desperate." 

"Who said I was desperate?" 

"Then what? Mr. Declan and Dallas seem to have influenced your emotions a lot." 

"Since when have you called them sir?" 

"Look at how upset your tone is!" 

Kai realizes that Rex is teasing him. He did not deny that his brothers had made him jealous and envious. 

His three oldest brothers had already found a fragment of Emrys within half a year. Then her most beautiful sister, Samira, had also completed the task for no less than a year. His other two brothers are doing their job well. And now Declan and Dallas have done the same. 

After this Kai was sure, the two twin brothers would laugh at him. Kai does not get along with some of his brothers, because they consider Kai weak in many ways. Even his own parents consider Kai to be his last failed son. Who wouldn't be hurt to hear that from their own family? 

Rex is probably the only friend and brother who best understands who Kai really is. Kai is not a weak figure who fails, only sometimes luck does not side with him. 

This time Kai's goal is just to find the Emrys shards as quickly as possible. He had already spent a lot of time in this world and had almost turned into an Earth person completely. There are still two brothers who also have not found another fragment of Emrys. That means Kai still has time to show that he is not a failed son. 

Kai suddenly rose from his sleep, making Rex immediately jump to the side in surprise. The young man brushed his dark hair back. The moonlight combated her face which turned out to be so sweet to look at. It turned out that she had beautiful green eyes and was very seductive. 

Kai's real hair color is not black, but a bright brownish red. He always changes his hair color and appearance if he stops in a country that has a different culture. Especially in countries where the majority of the population has dark hair color. 

"So what's your decision?" rex asked as he looked at the spirit face of his Master. 

"I'm tired of constantly giving up and being said to be a failure. I will not let my father, mother, or brothers insult my face again. We'll move the day after tomorrow, to the last coordinates in the country." 

"Then what about your money running low?" 

Kai turned his head, looking at Rex with a sinister face. "You have to find a job that suits me before we move there. Who do you think the cost of his life is the most extravagant? Hmh!" 

After Kai passed, jumping casually on the roof of the next house until he arrived on the road to his rental house not far from the narrow alley in front. 

Rex grunted rudely. It felt like cursing at that arrogant young man. But it is inappropriate to complain and protest. Because Rex also just found out that the cost of his life as a cat on Earth is much more expensive than his own humans.
