Jacelyn leaned her back against Ailean's chest. The top of his head was under the chin of the man. Jacelyn did not try to jack up to stare at the man as she asked for his name.
"Ailean."
Jacelyn's head hit Ailean's chin as the man nodded to let her know if she heard when Jacelyn called out her name.
"What's your relationship with Ainsley Callista?"
"His husband is my sister."
They have crossed the suspension bridge now and are climbing a hill near the family cemetery. "And your sister's name is Ramsey?"
"Yes." Yeah."
It was obvious that Ailean was not willing to speak. Jacelyn pulled away from Ailean's body to jack up at the man. Ailean looked straight ahead, ignoring herself. "I only have one more question for you, Ailean," he said. "After that, I promise I'll leave you with your own thoughts."
Ailean finally looked down at Jacelyn. Jacelyn's breath was stuck in her throat as she stared at Ailean's face. For God's sake, Ailean's eyes were very beautiful. Asking the man to give his full attention was a mistake. Because Ailean's sharp gaze robbed her of all concentration.
Safe enough to find the man attractive, break up Jacelyn. Of course nothing will happen between them. Jacelyn was going to Ailean's house, yes, but she was just going to be an outsider, a guest. Once there, Ailean would unlikely have any need with her there, or even vice versa.
In addition, Jacelyn is aware that she is Northumbrian. No, nothing will happen like an attraction between them.
"Are you married?" Jacelyn mentioned the question.
It seemed quite obvious that Jacelyn was more surprised to hear her own question compared to Ailean.
"No, I'm not married."
Jacelyn smiled.
Ailean didn't know what to do. Jacelyn had already asked her question and now she was going to ignore the woman. However, another problem arose within him, he could not take his eyes off Jacelyn. Whether what was going on, Ailean found it quite difficult to look back at the road after looking into Jacelyn's eyes.
"I have one more question for you" whispered Jacelyn. "After that, I won't bother you."
the two stared into each other's eyes for a while. "What do you want to ask me?"
Ailean's voice came out in a soft whisper. It felt like a caress to Jacelyn. That reaction left Jacelyn confused, she decided to take her eyes off Ailean to keep herself from that handsome demonic charm, so that the strange reaction on her body could be sidetracked.
Ailean realized Jacelyn's doubts. "Your question certainly doesn't matter that much."
"Oh, this is an important question" Jacelyn argued. He was silent for a moment to recall the question he had previously been about to ask. The girl stared at Ailean's chin in order to concentrate more. "Ah, I remember now," he said with a smile. "Is Ramsey being nice to Ainsley Callista? Did he treat Ainsley Callista well?"
"I think Ramsey was very kind to her," Ailean replied with a shrug. A few seconds later he added, "Ramsey never hit his wife."
Jacelyn jacked her eyes so that Ailean could see the pleasure of her comment from the look in Jacelyn's eyes.
"I already knew that Ramsey would never hit him."
"How do you know?"
"If Ramsey ever raised a hand on Ainsley Callista just once, then my friend would immediately leave Ramsey."
Hearing Jacelyn's insolent words, Ailean didn't know what to respond to? But quickly the man regained his sense of humor. "And where will Ainsley Callista run?"
"My face."
Because Jacelyn sounded so sincere, Ailean knew that the girl believed what she had just said. Ailean had never heard of such an absurd thing like this before. A wife will not just leave her husband, whatever the reason.
"None of Stewart's royal members will touch his wife in anger."
Azril shouted the question, interrupting their discussion. Jacelyn turned around in time to see the knight moving towards the grave she had destroyed last night. Soon Jacelyn turned her gaze towards the line of trees on the hill.
Ailean felt Jacelyn's body stiffen in her arms. "Do you know who did this?"
"Yes" Jacelyn replied in a soft whisper.
"Who did that to the grave..."
Jacelyn did not let Ailean finish her sentence. "That's my father's grave."
They had already reached beside Azril when Jacelyn said that. The green-eyed knight stared at Ailean then at Jacelyn. "Do you want us to return the gravestone before we leave, madam?"
Jacelyn shook her head. "If you do that, I just need to destroy it again. But, I'm grateful for your offer."
Azril could not hide his surprise. "Are you telling us that you did this?"
There would not be the slightest embarrassment seen on Jacelyn's face when answering Azril's question. "Yes, I did it. I need an hour. The ground is as hard as a rock."
The Stewart guy was stunned. Then, Ailean caught his attention. The man raised Jacelyn's face with the back of his thumb. "Why are you doing something like this?"
Jacelyn shrugged her shoulders indifferently. "At that time, it seemed like it was the right thing to do."
Ailean shook her head. The crime that Jacelyn had just confessed to was completely contrary to the character of the woman. Ailean suspected that Jacelyn was a gentle and innocent, yet stubborn woman. The way the woman insisted on riding her own horse showed that nature. However, Jacelyn still did not seem like a woman who did not respect the sacred ground.
"This is your father's grave?" Ailean asked again, the man was determined to get an answer to this riddle.
"Yes" replied Jacelyn. The woman sighed.
"You don't have to worry about this. The grave is empty."
"empty?"
"Yes." Yeah."
Jacelyn didn't explain anything anymore. Ailean decided not to urge the woman, when she realized how stiff Jacelyn's body was in her arms. It was obvious that the woman was feeling very depressed.
Ailean gestured for Azril to move again, then pointed her mount behind the man. As soon as the grave was left far behind them, Jacelyn looked back relaxed.
They did not speak again until sunset and it was time for them to make camp so that they could spend the night. They have been riding for a long time. The mood of the knights is now better because they have crossed the border and returned to the land of Scotland.
Jacelyn felt very tired by the time they finally stopped. Ailean realized that as she helped Jacelyn get off the horse. The woman could barely stand. Ailean's hands stretched out on Jacelyn's waist to hold the woman in balance until her legs were strong again.
Ailean could feel if Jacelyn's body was trembling. He stared at the top of Jacelyn's head while Jacelyn looked down at the ground. Since Jacelyn did not bring up the matter, then Ailean would not bring it up either. Jacelyn held on to her arm, but as soon as the woman broke away, Ailean removed her grip from Jacelyn's waist.
Ailean instantly returned to her dark horse. Jacelyn circled the horse and continued to walk towards the small river that was seen behind the trees near the small field. Ailean watched as Jacelyn left and once again the man was fascinated by the elegance Jacelyn had. The woman moves like a princess, Ailean said in her heart.
Oh my God, that woman is so beautiful. And also very plain. It can be seen from the way Jacelyn blushes on every little thing. Jacelyn was also very charming. This one girl can get into her heart somehow the way she does.
Ailean was so stunned in her mind that the man almost fainted. He continued to stare at the trees where Jacelyn had disappeared. However, now his face was wrinkled.
"What makes you so upset?" Azril asked from behind.
Ailean piled her hands on her horse saddle as she replied.
"Foolish thoughts."
