87. Memories of Nella

The Flashback

Nella knew Gunawan when they went to high school. When third grade High School they are one class. When I first met Nella, I liked her. Gunawan students are quiet but good just like everyone. He is an accomplished student. At first, Nella admired him. Because both of their parents are friends. They often meet finally Nella likes Gunawan. But not with Gunawan he's just acting normal with Nella.

After high school, Nella attended her parents who moved abroad. He finished his studies there. A year after finishing college Nella wants to return to Indonesia. He was eager to meet Gunawan. He never liked men other than Gunawan. Even after graduating from high school they never had contact.

When Nella arrived in Indonesia. The first person he wanted to meet was Gunawan. But before they could meet. Nella gets the news that Gunawan is married. His heart is broken with the truth. It is with deep sadness that Nella returns abroad to forget all about Gunawan.

Time passed.

Today Nella went to the hospital to see her sick friend. While he was walking on the corridor he accidentally met Wiratmaja.

''Om Wiratmaja'' said Nella.

''Who is it?'' ask Wiratmaja.

''I Nella her son Papa Adnan friends om, first time High School often invited papa play to the house om'' explained Nella spirit.

''Oh my God, I just remembered. You are more beautiful and have grown up making om forget'' replied Wiratmaja smiling.

''Hehe, how are you?'' ask Nella.

''Okay, your parents how are you?'' ask Wiratmaja.

''They are good, play at our house sometime, papa must be happy''' said Nella.

''Yes, if there is time for you to come to your house'' replied Wiratmaja.

''What's the matter at the hospital?'' ask Nella.

''Om here brought Gunawan to medicine'' said Wiratmaja sadly. When he heard the name Gunawan Nella's blood rippled.

''Emang Gunawan is sick om?'' asked Nella curiously.

''He had an accident and is now paralyzed. Om brought him treatment here so he could walk again, explained Wiratmaja.

''Can I see it?'' ask Nella.

''Boleh, come with om'' take Wiratmaja.

They arrived at Gunawan's nursery. Nella saw Gunawan sitting in a wheelchair looking out the window. His gaze was so empty. The pale face had no spirit in his life. She was different from what Nella knew.

''Gu, There's Nella said Wiratmaja.

But Gunawan was silent. There was no reaction from Wiratmaja's words. Nella then approached him.

''Do you remember me Gu?'' asked Nella while standing in front of Gunawan.

''Who are you?'' gunawan asked for a moment. Then look back out the window. Nella's heart was sad to see Gunawan's condition. All this time he tried to forget Gunawan. But today they met Gunawan does not remember him.

''I'm Nella, your High School Friend. Son of Om Adnan'' said Nella.

''Where is his wife? Why don't I look?'' ask Nella.

''Her wife is dead. And as you can see he was like a dead man when he lost his wife. Om also does not know how to make him like he used to be said Wiratmaja sadly. His face was tired. Nella knew Wiratmaja loved her children. Even after his wife died giving birth to Hendra he never remarried.

''But be patient, give him time. I'm sure sooner or later maybe he can forget it'' entertain Nella.

''Still, you are a good boy'' Wiratmaja said.

''If om here who is in the om company?'' ask Nella.

''For a while Hendra is handling everything until Gunawan is healthy. But if you look at it now you don't know until when we're here said Wiratmaja.

''Yes, Nella came home first. Tomorrow Nella will be here again.

Wiratmaja just a snuggle. After that, Nella went home.

The next day Nella returned to the hospital. Like the day before Nella saw Gunawan just pensively looking out the Window. His heart was sad but he was determined to make Gunawan heal.

Gunawan initially refused Nella's presence. But because Nella never gave up Gunawan finally let Nella come every day to the hospital and accompany her to do treatment.

A Few Months Passed. The end Gunawan can walk again. Nella was pleased with her recovery. Plus Gunawan is not as sad as before. He can live his life as usual.

Today Gunawan invited Nella to meet at a restaurant. They're sitting there.

'' You must know why I invited you here?'' tanya Gunawab started the talk.

''Yes, is it about the plans of our two parents?'' ask Nella again.

''Yes, it is the plan of our parents, who want to marry us. I'll be honest with you. I never agreed with this marriage. But because papa asked me to obey him. But I also want to ask for your opinion. Are you willing to marry me?'' ask Gunawan. Nella who felt while accompanying Gunawan to treat love that he had buried growing back. Now he's thinking about not letting go of Gunawan again.

''I want to marry you, '' Nella replied for sure.

''But I can't give you love. You know until now in my heart there is still Retno. until anytime it will not change. Are you able to live with a person who cannot give his heart to you. I don't want you to suffer because of me Gunawan explained.

''Yes I'm ready'' Nella replied again. Actually his heart hurts a little. But his love overcame that pain.

''Try to think again'' said Gunawan.

''I have set my heart to marry you'' said Nella steady.

''Yes we are married'' replied Gunawan.

Their marriage was done simply at Gunawan's request. A few days after their marriage they returned to Indonesia. Exactly a year Gunawan abroad.

They're getting home. Wiratmaja said that Gunawan's room was on the second floor. But Gunawan does not want his room occupied by them. Finally they chose a room on the first floor next to Wiratmaja's room.

At first, Nella did not know what was in Gunawan's room. Because it's always locked. After Nella takes an expert on all the affairs of the house, she finds out that the room has many memories of Gunawan with his wife. Nella thinks maybe Gunawan won't tell her so she doesn't get hurt.

Gunawan treats Nella well like a wife. Nella was happy with all that. He also served Gunawan well. But one thing made Nell sad. Sometimes when Gunawan sleeps he is often delirious. Calling his wife's name. Nella Gunawan will look like a fragile child. Sometimes she cries and sometimes she laughs. Nella doesn't know what's going on in her subconscious. At first, Nella was sad and hurt. He is a normal person who has jealousy. But the longer he felt compassion for Gunawan. And when noon comes Gunawan will return to his firm and authoritative self. It was as if what he experienced in his sleep had never happened.
