“You road - road?” Himari asked. “Weather on this island is good.” Himari smiled.
Ranum nodded. Slowly get up from his bed, remove all the wires and hoses on his body, then sit in the wheelchair Himari provided.
“Why not use that wheelchair?” Ranum pointed to an electric wheelchair.
Himari shakes. “conventional wheelchairs are sure to be more fun.” Himari smiled.
A helicopter took the two of them to the end of the island. Himari pushes Ranum's wheelchair to the cliff edge of Antipodes island. “You're not trying to push me into that sea, are you?” Ranum laughed, joking.
Himari stood beside Ranum's wheelchair, shaking her head. “Because it's been discovered, I undo my intention it.” Himari laughed a little. They both stared at the sea. “Long right?” Ask Himari.
Ranum nodded, smiling.
“See penguin colony there.” Himari pointed to the other side of the cliff. “Only upright crested penguin colonies can survive here.” Himari continued to explain.
“Oh yes?” Ranum.
Himari. “Crested Penguins lay two eggs, but one egg is larger in size than the other egg and usually only one egg is bred.”
“How big is the difference between one egg and another?” Ranum asked.
“Second eggs always have larger size about 80 percent.” Himari. “But uniquely of these penguins, they always lose their first smaller eggs.” Himari.
“Where to go?” Ranum asked.
Himari. “No one knows for sure where the first egg of the crested penguin disappeared. Maybe small eggs are not ready to incubate, maybe also because incubating two eggs will drain a lot of the power of the mother penguin, so they sacrifice smaller eggs.” Himari guessing – day.
“Maybe the first egg was just to manipulate its predator, or the upright-crested mother penguin was intentionally sacrificing their first egg for their predator. From that moment I noticed the penguin colony, they were very disturbed by the presence of the skuas and giant petrels that flew around them. Not infrequently from the penguin who tried to repel the bird – birds.” Ranum followed guess – nerka.
“Caused.” Himari smiling. “You always see all things from the sadistic side yes.” Himari laughing.
Ranum. “I'm just speculating.”
“Hei.” Himari sat on the rock, staring at Ranum.
Ranum turned his head, sliding his wheelchair towards Himari.
“Did you miss your wife? Want to contact him?” Himari gave me a cell phone.
Ranum smiled. “I hope I can.” Ranum did not take the phone.
“Of course you can contact him via this phone.”
Ranum smiled, shaking slowly.
“No need to hesitate, maybe I'll be jealous. But I get it, she's your wife.” Himari was still giving the phone away. “She must be very worried about you right now.” Himari.
“Surely he worries me, from a different world.”
“Different world?” Himari asked, confused.
“She died a few months ago.”
“I'm sorry for your loss.” Himari looked at Ranum.
“No problem.” Ranum smiled.
“Do you miss him?” Himari asked.
“Always.”Ranum smiled looking at the high seas.
“The ring in your pinky..” Himari did not finish her sentence.
Ranum nodded. “Owns my wife, Miranda.”
“Including the necklace you wear?”
Himari. “As far as I know, there are only a few types of birds that live here. There are usually elephant seals. Maybe they are migrating so they are invisible. Or be on the other side of this island.” Himari explained, her spirit began to return.
“No land animals?”
Himari. “As far as I know there are no other animals living here besides birds, insects and elephant seals. Even the types of insects here can be counted with fingers because there are too few. It may be difficult for land animals to survive on a subantarctic island like this.”
The atmosphere was quiet for a moment, only the sound of waves and and the sound of the wind was quite strong. Arrived – arrived Ranum chuckled, remembering his past. “When I was eight years old, my father threw me off a cliff, maybe as high as this cliff. Very enough to kill an eight-year-old.” Ranum laughed a little.
“What!” Himari was surprised to hear Ranum's words.
Ranum shook his head, chuckling. “He didn't mean to kill me. He's just testing my guts and Kripala. Kripala was also thrown from the top of the cliff with me, that was the second time Kripala was thrown from the top of the cliff. His first throw, he felt when he was six years old, two years younger than the first throw I got. My father also jumped with me and Kripala.” Ranum continued to explain.
“Dayana and Arsyanendra are not coming with you?” Himari asked.
“They're coming. But at that time Arsyanendra was only three years old, so he was not thrown with us. Arsyanendra got his first throw when he was seven years old along with the second throw I received. If Dayana never got a throw from a cliff, my mother strongly forbade my father to throw Dayana.”
“What hurts when your body hits water?” Himari asked curiously.
Ranum. “Just surprised. Because it is very arrived – arrived.” Ranum laughed a little. “Fortunately we have been taught to swim since childhood, at least we can try to survive in the sea. But it was hard for our little bodies back then to fight a big enough wave. We were allowed to stay in the sea for ten minutes. Our second throw was left on the high seas for twenty minutes.” Ranum continued to explain.
“What is only two throws?”
Ranum shook his head, smiling. ”The rest we jump alone from the top of the cliff, then swim to the nearest island. That was so much fun. Although I have never won against Kripala.” Ranum laughed a little.
“Your father is sadistic once.”
Ranum laughs. “You could say so. But because of the exercise – small exercise like that, we so ready in any condition.”
“Small!” Himari was surprised by Ranum's words. “This cliff is almost three hundred meters high Ranum. If this cliff is the same as the cliff where you threw it, it's very dangerous for a kid your age Himari was astonished by Ranum who looked relaxed.
Ranum nodded. “I am with my sister and brother - my brother is used to extreme things – things. We always practice war using rubber bullets and don't wear any safety, just wear clothes a day – days. We also used to practice fighting without safety and without compassion.”
“That's the reason you're often battered from small?” Himari laughed a little.
Ranum nodded. “Very difficult against Kripala.” Ranum laughed a little. “We also often sky diving, each – of us given one parachute, but only two parachutes can be used. We were not told which parachute could be developed whereas we fielded our own –. So we have to catch up with each other in the air, and desperately need good cooperation. If one of us makes a mistake, it will be very fatal.”
“But to date, the four of you are still alive. That's a sign you guys are successful and can work together.” Himari smiled broadly.
Ranum nodded. “So you can say that. But because of the terrible thing –, I prefer to work alone, in order to minimize the impact that will occur. At least no one needs to sacrifice and be sacrificed. Besides, it makes my job easier because I don't think of anyone else.”
“As you jumped to protect me when the bomb that night exploded?” Himari looked at Ranum.
Ranum. “I didn't protect you. I was just the origin of the jump and it just so happened that my hand pulled your body.” Ranum.
Himari laughing. “Obviously you were trying to protect me standing next to you. If it was just your reflex that happened to be, you would put my body on top, not try to cover my body with yours.”
“Your body is too small to cover my body. It will be vain – sia.” Ranum answered flatly.
Himari laughing. “Always do not want to be seen attention. One part of you that I like the most.”
“We'd better be back. The wind is getting stronger.” Ranum says.
“Honest first. You protected me on purpose that night?” Himari laughed, urging Ranum.
“No.” Ranum answered briefly, turning his wheelchair to face the helicopter waiting for them.
“You intentionally right?” Himari was still pressing, walking following Ranum who started pedaling the wheelchair.
“Just a coincidence.” Ranum answered flatly.
“What a hard thing it is to be honest.” Himari continued to urge, starting to help push Ranum's wheelchair.
Ranum just kept quiet, ignoring Himari's ramblings that kept urging him. They boarded the helicopter, returned to the lab.
