High School Soldier
Pined

Two weeks had passed since the 12th Team and the Relief Company were sent to Fort Girinhi as a favor. Although not ‘many’ jobs they get, but experience during the first battle and information about enemy movements can make them useful here. Because both of these can be sent to the headquarters, so that further action for both units can be determined according to the information they submit.

There were no casualties on the first attack of the Alliance Special Platoon, and the Arevelk troops stationed at Girinhi Fortress were fortunate with such a small and medium-sized unit. If an attack occurred, and the 12th Team was not placed on the fortress, it was certain that they would suffer a huge loss. Meanwhile, the Aid Company can strengthen its troops with their heavy weapons.

After the battle, the absence of casualties on the 12th Team's side was probably because they were truly elite and experienced units in simulated and real combat.

As is the daily routine, some relief company soldiers exercise with Arevelk soldiers, although both sides do just run away casually and exchange martial arts controlled by each soldier. They communicate in a variety of ways, including practicing together.

(olog note: running is the same as jogging)

After breakfast, Nio and the ten Arevelk archer soldiers stood on top of the wall on one side of the fortress. The arrow arc that the ten soldiers use is an adaptation of the automatic arrow belonging to the contingent of ‘otherworld’, but Nio considers the weapon is not much different from the crossbow in medieval times. But, some of the archer soldiers claim that their crossbow is a small ‘ballista’ so that it can be operated by one soldier and taken anywhere with very easy.

The influence brought by the Expeditionary Force was able to change the way the Arevelk military views how to fight, but somehow with the influence that the Peace Forces brought either or wrong, it depends on how both sides respond. They are a larger force than the Expeditionary Force, and they have made some changes, especially about weapons.

There was no enemy movement as rumored to this day. However, they saw buffalo-sized carnivorous animals enter again the forest after a night of wandering in search of prey.

“Sial, it turns out they keep wandering until the sun rises,” said one of the soldiers near Nio.

With his binoculars, Nio looked in the direction pointed by the soldier beside him, a carnivorous animal that had a long body, with legs resembling a big cat like a lion or tiger, and the head is elongated so it is very much different from the carnivores in its home world. The animal was named Metsik, and was widespread throughout the Andzrev Continent and nearby continents. It is easy to distinguish between male and female metsik. For males, the entire body is dark, with a pointed and striking tail end and an additional two small tails. While the female Metsik, the back is bright red and the tip of the tail is pointed.

“What's the name of that flat animal?” nio's index finger pointed towards the flock of long-legged dogs that re-entered the forest.

“That animal you call with ‘dog melata’. They are able to fold their legs short enough for their bodies to touch the ground, and will extend their legs again to run after prey. His name was Koer,” one of the archer soldiers answered his question.

It was quite different from the one he saw when the Luan Empire used the beast to fight the Expeditionary Force, as they continued to move with short legs and were nowhere to be seen extending their legs any longer. However, Nio felt that it was a hunting tactic or against the beast. Because by walking that is almost close to melata, enemies or their prey will be difficult to see the existence of the Koer-Koer.

(olog note: not koar-koar.).

According to Nio – who is not a member of animal lovers – he still feels using animals in attacking a war is quite effective, even though it violates animal rights. Some types of animals and monsters, one tail of some certain types of animals has the strength of a squad or platoon. If the attack involved a flock of Koers in the hundreds, then one regular infantry company could be defeated within minutes of the fight.

Arevelk did use several types of animals to fight, but only to attract heavy weaponry such as cannons and trebuchets, and pull carts filled with soldiers to travel far and keep soldiers not exhausted when fighting. Only horses were directly involved in the middle of the war, as the cavalry troops would lose a lot of strength without horses.

“Yes, the situation here is still safe without any movement of the Alliance army, only the attack a few weeks ago was successfully handled by Team 12.”

On the other hand, as the commander of the 002 Relief Company, one of his duties was to report to the central headquarters. Its Communications Staff is trying to continue to link the unit's signals to the Communication and Control Center signals. That way, they and the 12th Team will not miss any news from the headquarters, so their work can be sure to run smoothly.

“There is news for me and Lieutenant Nio, .. and for the commanders of the girinhi Fort?” army

Baek-Ki can hear if his interlocutor is saying that in an unpleasant tone, similarly, two members of the Communication Staff also listened to the conversation between the two commanders and one of the Communication and Control Center staff. However, they were unable to find any reason for the sudden change in the atmosphere, so Baek-Ki ordered one of his soldiers to summon Nio and the commander of the Arevelk army at Girinhi Fortress.

Although the rebellion is still a rumor, and no soldiers who served in the fort heard the movement of the rebel forces, but it seems that the threat is very real. Baek-Ki agrees with Nio's opinion that Arevelk's rebellion will affect the Guild, but will have no effect on the Peacekeeping Forces. The only impact that the Peace Forces will have if the rebel forces in question start to move and show a threat is that they must at least send any assistance.

The man of one of the North Korean contingent officers had also heard Nio's opinion if the rebellion occurred, then Girinhi Fortress would be the weakest point and very easily defeated. In the end, Baek-Ki and his soldiers must be aware and vigilant. They are between two threats.

“Tuan Nio, what are you taking me and the commanders for?”

“I don't know either, Mr. Baek-Ki just told us to meet him. Isn't that right, sir?”

Nio spoke like that after bringing four unit commanders and a main commander of the Arevelk forces stationed at Girinhi Fortress to where Kim Baek-Ki was.

He and the five important men on the troops in the fortress entered one of the tents that contained the necessary tools to communicate smoothly, such as signal receivers and telegram machines are used if the radio signal has a sudden interference and is being repaired.

The five commanders' reaction when entering the communication room was the same when they saw a heavy machine gun or 40mm double-barreled turret that was much more powerful than machine guns and assault rifles. They looked around with confused faces mixed with curiosity on every tool in the place.

“Communication and Control Center staff seems to have information for us.. and it seems quite important.”.

Nio received one handsfree, as well as the five commanders.

As Nio expected, the two of them looked very confused by the small tool one of Baek-Ki's subordinates gave them. Nio knows if he can't say “put that thing into your ear”, or they'll actually insert handsfree into their ear hole.

“Let me help put that tool on.”

“Actually what is this little thing for, Mr Nio?” one of the commanders asked while staring at the handsfree he was holding, and occasionally sniffed at the object.

Nio first put handsfree on the supreme commander of the Arevelk army at Girinhi Fort. He was named Donem, and stared fearfully at the small object that had begun to be affixed to his ear hole.

On the other hand, Nio was also unable to let the five commanders wear their own, either, and what he was afraid of was that they did not wear the device to the ears but to other holes in their bodies.

“Lettan One Nio here. What information does center get?” said Nio after helping the five commanders wear handsfree to their right ear.

“Before, General Angga thanked you and all your team members. You have defeated the enemy special unit,” said one of the Communication and Control Center staff.

“Uwah…! Is there a human inside this little thing? I think I heard a sound from this thing!” donem said with an excited face and tone mixed with admiration and confusion. Similarly, the four subordinate commanders of the man, and knocking handsfree attached to each ear with the aim of whether in the small object there really is a human.

The staff who spoke to Nio already knew that the one who said that was the Arevelk army. Both Nio, Baek-Ki, and the Communications and Control Center staff understand the reaction of these men with technology from their world.

“They are almost like modern infantry soldiers, and they seem to have guerrilla abilities. By the way, we managed to capture the rest of the enemy special unit,” Nio chose to ignore the behavior of ‘primitif’ Donem and his four subordinates, and continued the conversation with his interlocutor who was a hundred kilometers away from where he was now.

“Alright, we will send a pick-up unit to take the captives. Then, let's get back to the main topic, the Arevelk military sent additional troops to defend Girinhi Fortress and the nearby region. But, they were attacked on the way and were defeated. Hundreds of Arevelk soldiers were killed during the sudden attack,”

Both of Nio's eyebrows dropped sharply, so his expression was now shocked mixed with anger. The first thing he thought about sending additional troops to Girinhi Fortress was “Did they not listen to my words if they put a large number of troops in this fortress a risky plan?”

“Can't be an attacking Alliance, right?” said Baek-Ki who knew Nio was late to respond to the information.

“If the enemy were to attack, we would definitely get information from the nearby Arevelk force unit that saw the movement of the Alliance. So, most likely the unwanted thing Arevelk has happened.” Nio gave me what he thought.

In keeping with his first impression of Nio, Baek-Ki knows that Nio is a teenage soldier who still has a youthful nature in general. But his calmness in thinking about predicting things and planning action on his predictions makes the man have to change his view of Nio.

There are several reasons that make him approve the code name ‘Life’ to Nio. Someone will have difficulty acting, when dealing with a very big problem at the same time, but Nio will immediately take action but precisely with the situation he is facing. And Nio is known to find the easiest way to solve a problem by way of ‘pursuit’ directly to its target, similar to the undead who will chase after others who have attracted his attention and will continue to pursue until they get their target even though there are very many obstacles.

“For that big trouble, Mr. Zvail asked some troops in Girinhi Fortress to be sent as additional troops to fight the troops who had attacked the relief forces.”

“Damn it, my advice is completely useless,” Nio several times issued profanities addressed to someone who had asked for his opinion regarding the situation as it was happening right now.

“No...” replied Nio briefly.

He then continued his words after calming himself down. Nearby were five Arevelk commanders leading the troops in the fortress, and it was not good to mock their generals with obscenities even though they had no idea what he was saying at all.

“Pak Donem, what do you think about sending some of your troops to become additional troops for the troops who will fight the rebels again?”

“So the rebellion has started?!” donem's face really showed an overwhelming expression of disbelief. And his four subordinates put on the same expression and muttered something.

Looking at Nio and Kim Baek-Ki who were staring at him to immediately give an answer, Donem thought a little about the impact if the Alliance attacked abruptly when a portion of the troops defending Girinhi Fortress were already on their way. He was in a dilemma that made him dizzy if he had to think about it alone, so Donem decided to have a brief discussion with his four subordinates.

According to Nio, the suppression of the rebels must be carried out immediately if Arevelk does not want to weaken in this war. However, in reality Zvail's actions that Nio hoped would be able to face a two-sided attack (against the Alliance and the rebels) were not at all expected. If the prediction is right, the troops from the fortress sent into the relief force will be attacked by troops who have attacked additional troops before. As the one who had been asked for advice by the supreme general in the military of the Kingdom of Arevelk, Nio felt responsible for all the actions of Zvail who had received advice from him, he said, even if the man performs an action that does not use any advice from him at all.

Every now and then Donem and his four subordinate commanders glanced at Nio, and it bothered him greatly. If he receives a consultation from Donem regarding this matter, of course Nio will be happy to help him with the help of Major Baek-Ki who is more senior than him. On the other hand, Nio felt that this war was gradually becoming more complicated. The complicated in question was probably the Great War Period he had heard of actually involved a great many countries in this world, and it was a thing that Nio did not want to see and engage in.

“Actually, we are still worried if the enemy who attacked the additional troops for us also attacked us who were sent as an aid to fight the enemy. However, it seems like a very serious thing and impossible to avoid,” said Donem who is still in a situation of confusion to decide on action at Zvail's request.

Meanwhile, Donem knows if the ‘people predicted’ in front of him will definitely give useful advice and make the situation a little calm. However, he realized that it was not good to rely too much on outsiders in national matters while he knew that Nio had won many battles. That way, he has pinned the title of ‘experienced soldier’ to Nio.

“But, Mr. Zvail has asked me to give some advice to confront the rebels if that happens. Now, the rebellion had already begun, and the unwanted dispatch of additional troops made Arevelk lose many soldiers. That's a disservice to you. As a person who has been asked such a request, I feel very responsible for the final outcome of any actions of Mr. Zvail.”

Young officers such as the young first lieutenant beside him were not mass-produced by the factory, and usually such soldiers were shaped by long, exhausting, and painful experiences. On the other hand, Baek-Ki had heard one of the TNI officers who had spoken harshly in front of the TNI commander at that time when he was still a pintara. The reason the soldier said dirty to his superiors was probably almost the same as Nio, because at that time Indonesia was almost in an arms conflict with Singapore and Malaysia which were members of the FPDA organization.

(olog note: FPDA is a defense relationship with members of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore. The five countries agreed to help each other if they get threats and attacks)

Although Nio only curses Zvail at a place far away from the man, Baek-Ki feels the character Nio has is similar to one of the soldiers he admires. To be more precise, Nio was the younger version of the soldier.

Nio wasn't the one who would help someone anymore if the one who asked for help to her didn't listen to her response at all. However, he was a soldier now, and was no ordinary teenager who was still unstable and irritable. Common sense and logical thinking are needed in the midst of complicated situations like now, so Nio chooses to ignore his irritated feelings and think of the right advice for Zvail's request to send in a relief force.

He was unable to answer Zvail's request with “Enggak”'s answer just like that, at least he felt he had to give a logical reason for his answer.

“It feels like I can imagine Mr. Zvail's face if his request is rejected,” Nio said and responded with a lethargic face from Donem and his four subordinates.

Right now, Nio only wanted a mission that did not have to get him involved in the dizzying situation he was in now. However, he was not allowed to retreat before the task given to him was completed, even though it had to make him think a lot until his head felt like exploding. That means, he has to solve that complicated problem before it develops into a much bigger and worse problem than the word ‘complicated’.

He could hear the cheerful voices of some of the relief company personnel and members who were preparing for lunch together in the main square of Girinhi Fort. He did not want their pleasure to be interrupted by the enemy's surprise attack.

“If ordered, we are ready to send five thousand soldiers as assistance,” Donem said with a confident face if Nio and Baek-Ki agree.

“I hope you do not be too sure if the action is able to make Arevelk able to defeat the rebels,” reply Baek-Ki who makes confident expression Donem fade, as well as the four subordinates.

“It's too much. You better not send in soldiers for help. Nor do we know when the Alliance will attack this fortress. If the powerful Arevelk forces can be defeated by the rebels, it is certain they have a large amount of power.”

“Then what will we do, huh?! Keep silent inside the walls (fortresses) and let the rebels move more freely and strengthen themselves? You're just another worldly person who doesn't know anything about us! So don't try to dissuade us from sending Mr. Zvail the help requested, another world person!”

After feeling something about the various words that Nio had spoken about the present situation, Donem finally said that after a few minutes of holding back the feeling.

“Lienan Nio and Major Kim Baek-Ki, is something going on there?” ask one of the Communication and Control Center staff.

Nio then with a flat face responded to the question of the headquarters staff who were the mouthpiece, “There is no problem here. Looks like Mr. Donem would like to talk about the request for delivery of the relief force. Oh yes, he is the supreme commander of the troops in Girinhi Fortress.”

Nio rushes out of the tent after removing handsfree and disconnecting the link then gives it to Baek-Ki's subordinates. The chair was thrown to the ground violently, and was left behind by Nio who was almost out of the tent, but one of Donem's subordinates tried to prevent it.

“Solve this problem first, damn it!” said one of Donem's subordinates.

“I don't get in the way of what you want to do. So, you are free to respond to Mr. Zvail's request, but don't involve me if the decision finally makes you regret.”

Before one of Donem's subordinates responded to Nio's words, the man had already stepped away from the tent by several steps. Meanwhile, Kim Baek-Ki told his interlocutor that the commotion was the work of soldiers who tried to catch a rat as big as a goat boy.

Passing by the few Arevelk soldiers who greeted him, Nio walked over with heavy breaths and a sinister face. Just hearing the words of Donem and his subordinates made him sick. That made him want to immediately submit a request letter so that his term in this world will soon be terminated, and placed back in the Karanganyar Garrison or whatever can make him avoid getting colleagues like them. Donem and his men had made Nio who was languishing with the situation now made him unable to take it anymore. They had stolen his composure in thinking with common sense, and made him not want to think of anything for now.

He stood on one side of the fortress wall, then banged his forehead on the wall then spoke with a flat face: he was:

“Why are they talking as if a plan I haven't told you won't come in handy?”

Nio placed his reddened forehead as a result of the impact on the fortress wall with eyes so cold, and made a mixed feeling of annoyance and uneasiness disturb his heart. He did realize that his experience was not as much as that of a senior officer, but there was nothing wrong with giving his advice and responses. He was lucky that Donem and his subordinates were not his enemies, but sooner or later there would definitely be a change from this war.

Nio gritted his teeth, and spoke inwardly if he had better experience and advice, so that such a situation would not have been created.

“They just didn't realize the potential of yourself, My Lord,” Hevaz walked up to him with a bright smile, he said, then put both palms on Nio's shoulders and slightly squeezed them in hopes of making Nio calm down a bit.

“Hevaz, what if I am not sent on duty in this world?” annoyance accompanied Nio's words.

“I'll force you into this world, and expose you to the Gods so that they immediately make you a hero.”

Nio raised his head back with a reddened forehead, then saw not only was Hevaz nearby. Edera, Huvu, Ebal, and the teenager Demihuman (Silent Killer) were nearby with calm and warm expressions.

“Heh, so you guys were eavesdropping on our conversation, huh?”

He spoke, not as a reprimand but worried about what would happen to them if he eavesdropped on the conversation he had just a moment ago.

“You even finished the battle a few days ago before we arrived. It indicates if not mistakenly designate you as ‘people foretold’.”

Huvu is right, and that's a wonderful thing in armed combat. Nio and his subordinates were more than just teenage soldiers. They are the best soldiers.

“They are not even good at watching the captives, even though they have a lot more soldiers than you,” said Ebal.

“’Well, I mean, they don't even think about the risk of sending in additional troops, but the enemy is still hiding and ready to attack them at any time.”

“Mr Nio, they will not get a loss if only one soldier is sent as assistance,” Hevaz said with a face convinced of something.
