EX-SOLDIER: In Another World

EX-SOLDIER: In Another World
Meetings and the New World - Part 3

After Vincent encounters the Jade Tribe, Vincent follows them to go to a nearby town. The city named Angelbarrow, one of the largest fortress cities and one of the trade routes in the kingdom of Iwreneian Kingdom. It takes 2 full days on foot to the city and one day by caravan, caravan, but the group decided to walk.

"So Vincent, are you an adventurer or perhaps a witch?"

Ask Pete the group leader. Vincent only shook his head, he was not an adventurer after all he did not know what an adventurer according to this world was. If the adventurer was a monster exterminator like the one he saw from the group, then he was not one of them, and the magician he was far from it.

"No, I'm not. I'm just a traveler like I said before."

Vincent replied, he could not have said that he came from another world in an unknown way. It was a ludicrous and absurd thought in itself even though he was the one who experienced it, obviously they would not buy the real reason and Vincent decided to lie about who he was.

"Which weapon are you using? I've never seen anything like it before."

Gill asked who was walking beside her, pointing at Revolver who was sitting in both her scabbards.

"Ah this? This is a revolver type gun."

Vincent said while pulling one of his Revolvers to look at. Vincent sees that Gill doesn't really understand what he's saying and decides to explain it in simpler language.

"Say, it's an automatic bow and it doesn't use arrows as ammunition."

"Oh! That terrific. As an archer I must be jealous of this weapon of yours, Vincent."

"The accuracy and precision are undoubtedly, the gun is superior to a regular bow!"

"What else can this weapon do?"

"Well, you can shoot six bullets with this in a short time, too-"

"Your hum!"

Lisa interrupted the conversation with a feigned cough. Vincent and Gill turn their attention towards the witch.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I got carried away there."

Said Gill who looked embarrassed by the way she scratched her head.

"By the way Vincent, will you join us as an adventure? You know, you're pretty good at fighting. It will also be the solution to your current problem, the problem of coins for necessities."

Gill offered, Vincent on the other hand mused. It's true that he doesn't have a penny for now. Just the luck and kindness of the Jade Tribe he could eat for today with the Jade Tribe dividing their supplies, yet another day? He did not know and had to find a solution as quickly as possible for it.

"If you offer, who am I to refuse? I accept it."

Two reasons Vincent accepted the Jade Tribe's offer. First, he needed coins to survive. Second, he can find information and other things that must be known. Another advantage of being an adventurer is the amount of information that can be obtained, such as monster strength, location, market prices of monster materials and other things. All for the benefit of surviving in this world.

"Then I welcome you Vincent."

Pete said with a happy smile, Gill nodded in satisfaction with Lisa.

Vincent is looking to the horizon where the sun is almost sinking. Pete as the leader decides they will camp for now. Find a suitable place to rest before continuing the journey the next day.

The place he chose to camp was a forest rim, somewhat dangerous enough for Vincent because he did not know what wildlife was active at night in this world. But he entrusts completely to his new leader, Pete. For various reasons and one of them is that they know this place better than he does.

They talk about things, but Vincent interrupts their conversation in search of more information. Especially about this world exchange that uses coins. He didn't want to be fooled because he didn't know the exchange rate of this world and would be a fool if he bought bread for one gold coin right? And as a result he knew that. Copper coins were the smallest currency here with ten copper coins equivalent to one silver coin, one gold coin on the other was worth a hundred silver coins and one platinum was worth ten gold coins. It was quite easy to poultice, yet he still did not know the true market price.

Their conversation came to a halt as Gill and Vincent heard a gurgling sound in the bushes. Gill who is a hunter must know something is approaching while Vincent, as a former soldier who demands focus let alone be in an unknown place like this makes him wary.

"What's that?"

Vincent asked as he glanced at Gill who had a look towards the forest. The rest of the group takes their own guns and Vincent pulls out one of his Revolvers and fumbles his game inventory to retrieve the flashlight behind his coat.

Vincent highlights the bushes with a flashlight only to see a group of rats storming out of it.

'Shit! That's a very big rat! It was like I was on the Amazon!'

Vincent thought as he looked at a group of mice the size of an adult cat. The rat was so big and he wasn't sure if the domestic cat in his world would be able to hunt down one of these mice.

Vincent was ready to shoot the mice if they were going to be a threat, but when he saw the reaction of the other three in the group, it was clear these mice were not a threat.

Gill is now attaching his ear to the ground, trying to hear something and confusing Vincent with his actions.

"Friends, prepare!"

Shouted Gill as he prepared his bow and arrow.

"What's going on?"

Pete asked who was obviously worried and that was the same thing Vincent wanted to ask.

"A group of beasts or monsters approached. From the sound of the footprints I heard, it's definitely not a small group, we should look for an open space to see what's approaching and retreating in full if it's an opponent we can't possibly defeat."

Said Gill who had prepared. That makes the rest of the group even more vigilant, especially Vincent. It was enough against the green creatures they called goblins and orcs when he first came, then this? This doesn't make any sense. Has his luck been so bad lately? Vincent couldn't help but wonder.

"I get it, so the rats are running from something."

"Yes, we're going to back off and be prepared for the worst. Remember to look after each other's backs."

Pete said with the initiative of a leader. He prepares the shield in front of the group while Gill and Lisa keep their distance behind him.

Vincent on the other hand took out the M4 Carbine from his inventory, this time without hiding the way he took it out like before. It was not a thing that he should be concerned about right now, knowing he would be dealing with a large group of monsters or beasts. The flashlight had been mounted on the rifle and he was not far away from Pete while Gill and Lisa moved away to get into a position of support.

"Be prepared, they're coming."

Gill said seriously, he had drawn his bow to the maximum, ready to launch his arrow at the enemy behind the darkness of the forest.

"Lisa take this. Use it to shine light on the enemy."

Vincent said as he threw a flaming flashlight towards Lisa. Although nervous the confused, there is no time to ask what tools Vincent gave him. Clearly they lack sight because the moonlight is not enough to shine on the enemy in the darkness of the night.

Vincent prepares for the worst as he highlights the tall bushes in front of him. The guns are ready, the security has been removed and he is ready to shoot his enemy.
