From across the street, Lintang has been able to find the existence of Anindia among the many human traffic that meets Malioboro. In her seat, the woman's gaze seemed to be on six street musicians who were working together to entertain visitors who came. At times Lintang will find Anindia clapping, then at other moments, the woman will advance to the spot where the street musicians are in action, set aside a sheet of blue money which is then put into a shelter box. Although their distance was quite far, Lintang could see how beautiful the smile engraved on Anindia's face was more often plain without a trace of make up.
On several occasions, Lintang had dreamed of being in the position of Anindia. Having an older brother who loves him wholeheartedly, willing to put up a body to defend no matter who the opponent is facing. As an only child, Lintang put envy. The presence of a brother like Mas Abi is a dream that will never be fulfilled even though he whines to Father and Mother millions of times. So when he had the chance to feel in that position, it seemed that Lintang became quite greedy and ended up being a shitty human.
“Still want to be here?” behind him, still riding on the parked Vero, Mas Abi spoke up.
They had actually arrived here since 20 minutes ago, but Lintang still did not have the courage to walk closer towards Anindia. The guilt he has also started to cause embarrassment, making his guts shriveled without being prevented by anything.
“Iya,” Latitude then turned. As usual, what Mas Abi brought to him was a shady gaze that Lintang had never found in the eyes of anyone he had known in his entire life. Shady eyes that on several occasions, make Lintang insist to be able to have it until the end. “Five more minutes, yes. Wait Latitude kumpulin courage first.”
And Mas Abi never said ‘not’ to himself. Even when now the man nodded with a full of proclamation, letting him return to cast a distant gaze to the place where Anindia was now again busy with her own world.
The five minutes that Lintang asked for actually lasted quite a long time. When in the end, Lintang did not even find courage when he found Anindia across there was taking out a bar of boiled corn from her plastic bag, hand it over to a girl who might be only about six or seven years old. The random girl who knew came to sit next to Anindia, out of nowhere to her parents.
Anindia is a good person, so why does Lintang always make her patience run out? Why can't he be sweet, so that they can both receive the affection of Mas Abi without an insignificant quarrel?
The question was directed to himself, and he ended up condemning the many things he had done during his time with Mas Abi and Anindia. Not once, there had been many moments where he had made that kind-hearted Anindia turn into a reog, and he had always felt innocent for believing Mas Abi was behind his back to defend. But the incident that happened this afternoon was another matter. Anindia's anger had already reached its highest level, Latitude could no longer close its eyes.
“Come, Mas.” Take it, after he took a deep breath to strengthen himself.
Not a single bit of Latitude turned towards Mas Abi behind him. His hesitant swing of steps slowly turned to order after he convinced himself that, Anindia was a good person. They're gonna be fine. Tonight, Linang is determined to make peace with the woman - no matter how.
The closer his steps were, Lintang felt his heart pounding even more. It felt similar when he was waiting for the results of the exam, or when he was tossed around by the announcement of the admission of new students 2 years ago. Degup that makes his stomach follow the heartburn, and his breath that must be pulled hard.
“You can do it, Latitude.” He whispered to himself.
The sound of Mas Abi's footsteps trailing behind was no longer latitude gubris when his gaze collided with Anindia. Still with a wide smile the rest of the offerings to the little girl sitting next to him, the woman turned her head towards him. Lintang felt his heart crumple as the smile slowly narrowed, but it did not completely disappear.
Now, how should Lintang begin this peace mission?
...🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻...
Twenty minutes of sitting together, their chat only happened in the first five minutes. The rest was spent being silent, struggling with each other's thoughts which of course could not be guessed by the person next to him.
In the central area, street musicians are still performing. Songs by song continue to be played. From the happy, to the sad draining of tears. The girl who had originally occupied the Lintang sitting position had already left, brought over by Mas Abi with the lure of buying grilled sausages in the edge area across the street. Lintang and Anindia were left behind really just the two of them.
“Gue sorry.”
Again, the latitude was made at a loss for words. When he was the one who should have said that sentence, he was the first to get it. Indeed, he then wondered, how well the parents of Anindia educated him to be able to humbly apologize first, even though he was innocent?
“Stars that should be sorry.” When he said that, the eyes of the latitude had already dewy again. Just wait for the time until the dew is spilled, becoming a flood of tears that will be difficult to control. “Lintang has gone too far with Mbak Anin and Mas Abi. Latitude...” the sentence is not finished, hanging like a broken kite stuck in a high power cable. Too difficult to remove, but can not linger there.
“Lo is outrageous because until nerobos into my home yard with Mas Abi,” Anindia's speech was directly Lintang angguki. “But I also need to apologize equally lo because it has snapped lo like a human who has never been told how to discuss. I attach more importance to emotions, make mental lo down severe because I was angry in front of Mas Abi, who incidentally is the person who is again trying to lo deketin.”
After that long sentence, Lintang found Anindia taking a pause. The woman looked up, looking at the moon that was shining coyly as the black cloud almost swallowed her completely.
“Mas Abi says, emotions never solve everything.” The woman said again after a long pause. “Gue knows, but still can not control myself if there are things that run beyond my will. Just like any other human being on this earth, holding back emotions is something that is difficult for me, Lintang. Moreover, if it has something to do with Mas Abi.”
Lintang was silent listening. Even though he had so many things to say, in the end he still chose to shut up. Sentence after sentence the next Anindia said remained Latitude heed, he digested it well in his head while looking back at what mess he had made for the pair of brothers who loved each other.
Then at one point, Lintang began to understand, why Anindia looks antipathy. Not only to himself, but also to other women who tried to attract the attention of Mas Abi.
