...****************...
The next morning, Noelle woke up and opened the window of the room she had rented after returning from the church.
The sky was still somewhat dark, and the sunlight had not too manifested its existence either. However, Noelle had first woken up for two reasons.
The first reason was due to his own habits, while the other reason was the main reason why he hurriedly opened the window.
He sensed that there were many human presences observing him. They numbered about ten, or at least eleven. There might be more, and Noelle didn't notice it.
For a moment, Noelle was puzzled, but she instantly came to her senses and found the identity behind the scouts.
(After coming to pray, and making large donations, this is how they treated me. )
Noelle sighed and smiled wryly. Then, he returned and looked at himself through the large mirror.
The nightgown immediately changed into a formal uniform with a red scarf wrapped around her neck after black smoke appeared.
Noelle nodded and looked around. Other than a suitcase containing only a few of her belongings, Noelle did not carry anything at all. All the important things he had already stored well in his spatial warehouse.
After picking up her suitcase, Noelle immediately went out of the room and walked down the stairs. The room he had rented for this stay was on the second floor of a large inn. There are some fun amenities such as breakfast, lunch and free dinner, so Noelle doesn't mind spending a little more money on the room.
His figure who hurriedly came out of the inn was certainly a suspicious thing, but Noelle had indeed intentionally done that.
He had no intention of hiding from them from the start, so it would be best for him to directly establish an initial connection.
Noelle stood by the side of the road, waiting for the line of horse carriages to pass so she could cross the road.
However, just as Noelle was quietly waiting, the voice of a man called out to her from the side.
"Noah Ashrain's? "
Noelle subconsciously smiled, but she tried to hold back so that the expression was not too visible on her face.
"Yes. Can I assume you're from the church? "
Without even glancing at her in the slightest, Noelle realized that the man beside her was quite surprised. He then used《Clairvoyance》 for clearer observation.
"And? How do you know that? "
The man's tone became a little different. His voice sounded so threatening as his eyes glanced sharply at Noelle.
There was still no meaningful movement of the two, but the intensity that the two figures emitted was clearly quite striking. Even so, no one noticed it.
A few ordinary people began to gather and wait for the carriage as Noelle did, while the group that was with the man started to move carefully to take a safer position.
Noelle laughed a little. "Other times, remember to release the Goddess emblem before you try to meet someone while preserving your identity."
From his observations using《Clairvoyance》, Noelle easily discovered the existence of a small pin with a crescent moon engraving and several stars around it. Clearly, it was the emblem of the Church of the Goddess Zelica.
The pin stuck right in the pocket of the shirt the man was wearing next to him. In addition, everyone who followed him also had the same pin. It's just, they put it in a different place.
"Omong empty. This pin is the epitome of our loyalty. You should know that."
Noelle only smiled wryly and nodded a few times. He then looked straight ahead, then slowly walked across with the people around him.
The current of the horse carriage began to decline, so Noelle could cross by now. The man who was a delivery from the church also followed him, but he kept his position slightly behind Noelle.
"Pastor sent us. He wanted to ask about your intentions and goals" the man said without stopping his steps. She continued walking, with Noelle beside her.
"'I want to join you all', give my message to the Pastor. I've given him 'face' to trust me."
'The 'face' that Noelle was referring to here was Erwin's letter. Although Noelle did not know what she was writing, she was convinced that the message conveyed had a quite important nature. After all, the priest even sent out many agents to follow Noelle.
"just that? "
"Can I make another request? "
"Not really." Leaving those words behind, the man who had previously spoken to Noelle then vanished without anyone noticing it.
Noelle smiled wryly, then reached into her pocket for a moment. There, a piece of paper that looked like it had just been folded made it out.
On the paper, there was an address that the man had left behind. The location was not too far away, but it would take a long time if he just walked.
However, what made Noelle curious, was the place that used it.
"Is this address correct? "
The address the man gave us drove him to a bar, which looked quite luxurious. From the outside, Noelle only felt the presence of a few people inside, but that was because it was still very early in the morning. In fact, the bar was not yet open and still had a lid marker hanging on its door.
There was a black black board propped up against the wall, and it read 'Nautica Saloon' with fine white chalk.
" ……… "
After checking back and forth between the paper in her hand and the bar, Noelle finally sighed. He shook his head, then helplessly walked closer to the entrance.
Noelle knocked on the door several times, and she could clearly feel the movement from within. Someone is approaching from the other side of the door. Based on the sound of her light footsteps, Noelle concluded that she was a woman.
Before long, the door finally opened, and a girl of about 19 years of age appeared from the other side of the door.
The girl had beautiful hemp brown hair, braided one in a large shape, and let it dangle backwards like a rope.
"Do you need anything? " The girl tilted her head, clearly confused as to why Noelle had come to the bar at this early hour. All the officers besides him had not even come by now.
"I was asked to come here" Noelle said, handing over the address paper she was holding to the girl.
The girl simply received Noelle's paper, and watched her for a while. Shortly after, his expression suddenly changed.
His eyes were gleaming, and his face clearly looked extremely excited.
"Come in! I'll call the Captain now! "
The girl opened the door wide and let Noelle in, then she herself ran into the room behind the bar counter.
Noelle walked in and sat down on one of the chairs directly opposite the counter. After that, he began to observe his surroundings.
While still outside, Noelle managed to detect the presence of several people, but they all disappeared just after Noelle stepped into the bar.
There were only two possibilities for this; the first was that everyone whose presence Noelle managed to sense was somehow able to escape. Another possibility is the presence of a force field that blocks Noelle's detection.
(But ... Wouldn't that also not be beneficial to them? )
If they also could not sense the presence of others, then an intruder could easily enter without anyone noticing.
It took a whole minute for the girl to reappear. Noelle immediately stood up and was glued when she saw a man who had come with the girl.
The black line under his eyes looked a little thick, but it did not affect his appearance in the slightest. Instead, that black line made his gaze become sharper.
"Good morning, sorry for making you come this far."
The man graciously opened the conversation while raising his hand to shake hands, completely ignoring Noelle's astonished gaze directed at him.
"No problem, this is indeed the time where I used to wake up."
Noelle nodded and accepted the man's handshake, then sat back down with a faint smile on her face.
"Then, just go straight. Do you really want to join us? "
Just a moment after the two sat down, the man had already switched to another conversation. The girl who had already gone to the corner of the counter, seemed busy preparing two cups of coffee.
"Yes. I had a little doubt, but I made my decision. I want to join you guys."
(It doesn't mean you have the choice to reject me.)
Noelle already knew the recruitment system of members from every church-owned organization.
Once a person knows the existence of that organization, then they have no other choice but to join, or fully store this information for themselves.
Noelle had publicly acknowledged her intention to join the Lunatic Order, leaving the organization with no other choice.
The only thing they consider is Noelle's origins. His identity documents state his clear origins, but it is still unknown how he was able to make a connection with Erwin.
"Well, I don't think I need to mince words with you, considering you already know a lot. Come on, do you have any experience as an adventurer? "
"I have, but I didn't join the guild officially. I just go around and join the strangers."
"And that's how you know Erwin? "
Noelle nodded her head in a positive response.
He said 'not joining the guild officially' was not without help. It was to trick everyone, and make his history more gray.
If he only said that he had experience as an adventurer, it would lure the Lunatic Order's intelligence members to investigate. They would not find anything related to Noah Ashrain, so Noelle would be easily caught.
Conversely, if he says that he has never officially joined, then he will be safe from investigation. Of course, that doesn't mean he's completely safe.
Getting an answer from Noelle, the man nodded with a smile.
"I'm glad you took the initiative to join us. But, do you really not mind? Just remind me, once you get in, you won't be able to get out again, and your movements will become more limited. This gives us access to your personal life, and it is likely that some of your secrets will be revealed. Of course, we value each member's privacy more than anything."
"What would happen to me if I rebelled or tried to escape? "
The man smiled faintly while narrowing his eyes. The girl who had previously placed two cups of warm coffee right in front of the two.
"I'm sure you don't want to think about it."
Noelle lifted her cup and drank the hot coffee little by little. It's still morning, so arguably this is the perfect time for caffeine intake.
After she finished drinking a bit of her coffee, Noelle put the cup down again, and said, "Then tell me what the requirements are for joining."
...****************...
Hearing Noelle's request, the man inevitably smiled in satisfaction.
"The terms are not too complicated. You just need to sign a contract and a confidentiality agreement. After that, you can join us. Of course, the division where you are will be determined after I find out which one is worthy of you, but normally beginners will be placed in the investigation division."
Noelle did not really understand the structure of the members in the Lunatic Order organization, but it was not a problem because she could learn it at any time.
"All right, that's easy. When can I sign it? "
"Wait a minute, let me make it."
" ……… "
This organization is very rare for new members to arrive. They don't even have the supplies for contract letters and confidentiality warrants.
"Hehe, please ignore that. The captain doesn't really like a formal atmosphere, so he'll often find ways to ease the atmosphere."
The girl who greeted him had already returned and was sitting diagonally before him.
"By the way my name is Felice, you can call me by any name, but most people will call me Felis or Elis, so remember that."
"Alright, thanks for the service, Elis. You may already know, but my name is Noah Ashrain, greetings."
Felice smiled wryly at Noelle. He shook his head a few times, then said, "There's no need to be too formal here. You're older than me, so I should be the one to be polite. Besides, I don't really know your name yet. Anyway, I'm just a general staff member here."
"I'm sorry, but .. What does that have to do with it? "
"Yahh, a general staff like me is not so prioritized in terms of information dissemination. Before, I only got word that someone might join, without knowing the identity of the person in question, so I got ready early, busy picking coffee beans that were worth serving."
"Once, yes … "
After Felice's explanation, Noelle began to understand a little about the structure of the members.
The lowest tier members are referred to as general staff, while the others are more organized divisions.
As the name implies, the general staff is in charge of activities outside as well as within the organization.
"You must remember the losing Captain's name is Dolf. Ahh, he's coming."
Looking back, Felice quickly noticed Dolf's presence. He immediately stood up and ran small with the aim of getting away from Noelle.
Now it's Noelle's interview, so she can't interrupt, or Dolf will reprimand her.
Dolf returned with a few sheets of manually written paper with his beautiful writing model.
"There are only three documents you need to sign. The first is your contract letter, then there is a contract letter of agreement, and the last sheet is a statement of approval. Its function is the same as the contract letter, but it covers a whole that is not in the contract letter.
There was a lot written, but Noelle decided to just read it at a glance, then flip to a page that had a sheet full of writing. There, various rules are listed that Noelle must obey during activities as a member of the Lunatic Order.
Without spending much time reading, Noelle signed the three documents, then handed them to Dolf.
Dolf accepted it with pleasure, and the warm smile plastered there made the gloomy atmosphere around him change. "Congratulations, with this you've officially joined. You'll get your uniform and coat of arms later. For now, get ready to go to the dormitory where you're going to live."
"Well ... Wait, dorm? "
