20. The Village Next

Raina looked in all directions staring at the streets that Raina had never walked in her entire life.

Raina looked back at Saoda who was still stepping through the small road that was empty of big trees. Raina occasionally fell down while accidentally tripping her leg by a tree trunk blocking her steps.

Raina hugged her body so cold plus the sounds of animals such as dogs, owls and some other animals that putty alternately made Raina afraid.

Raina stopped her steps staring at Saoda who was seen crossing the river where the water flowed so clear and calm. At once Raina again astonished because this river is a river that limits the village where Raina lives and the next village which is said to be said this village is a village that has a lot of black magic.

Raina does not understand why Saoda went to that place and what purpose led her there with a black pouch and a black-haired chicken.

Raina turned her head left and right before she set foot one by one past several square stones to pass through this still calm river. Does this river have crocodiles? Even Raina just thought about hopefully she did not miss Saoda's trail which was a bit far away.

Bruaks

Raina fell into the wet grass after she decided to jump to the riverbank. He got up and rubbed his chest for a moment that felt tight and wet.

He looked up at Saoda who was no longer visible, making Raina run trying to find Saoda. I don't know where he went.

Raina ran small to the back of a not-so-big tree as she watched from a distance the figure of Saoda now seen standing in front of an old wooden house.

Saoda turned left and right with a face that was seen monitoring the situation around the house making Raina quickly squirted her body behind the tree trying to hide.

Raina peeked back to look at Saoda who was seen stepping closer to the house and knocking on him while occasionally his head turned to the left and right looking around him as if afraid that someone would see.

"What do you want Indo to do there?" raina whispered to herself.

Not long after the door of the old house opened showing the figure of an old man dressed in all black who was opening the door. They are seen talking but Raina can't hear because the distance is too far from Raina.

The old man stepped inside the house making Saoda turn left and right trying to make sure no one saw him until he decided to go inside and end up at that door now it is tightly closed.

Raina frowned in wonder. I don't know what Saoda had to do with the old man and what the chicken and the Saoda came for at midnight like this. Well, that's all that's now filling Raina's mind.

Raina sat for a moment as her mind tried to guess what was going on inside.

Raina shook her head slowly, this should not be allowed. Raina must know what they are doing in there and what purpose Saoda came to this house and met the old man.

Raina turned her head left and right trying to make sure no one in this place saw her. After feeling safe, Raina slowly approached the old house and leaned against the closed window.

Raina peeked at the small crack that was in the window that had been fragile at eating by the heat and rain. From here Raina could see the figure of Saoda sitting in front of the offerings and a container filled with burning embers.

Is he a shaman? Well, this is what came after Raina saw the offerings plus when she saw the old man in black clothes sprinkling incense that stung her smell, it could Raina kiss even when she was outside the house.

"How many people have you made prey to avenge your long-time enemies?" asking the man made Raina frown in wonder. What enemy did the old man say.

Raina thought for a moment, not even knowing that Saoda had enemies. Just get out of the house he rarely then how can he have enemies.

"Puang. I've killed ten people."

"Say one of them!"

"Istri and son of Puang Edi, Indo from the village chief, Bayang and Puang Bakri," he said.

Raina was so unexpected after hearing it, so it was true that the deaths of the people Raina knew were all the work of Saoda, her own grandmother who had raised her all along.

What makes Raina shocked and sad is the death of Grandma Shadow who is the Grandmother of Erni who is her own best friend which resulted in Erni now living alone and living alone. Raina does not think that Erni's grief all comes from Saoda.

What exactly is the reason Saoda does all this? What's their fault?

"I thank you very much for giving me the black magic to become Parakang, Puang Sampe."

The man named Puang Sampe smiled sinisterly then nodded slowly.

"You already know what the consequences are if you have been incarnated and followed the science of Parakang?"

"Yes, Puang," he replied while nodding and then he bowed as if he did not dare to look at the two eyes of Puang Sampe.

"Once you become Parakang then it remains Parakang. You could've let go and stopped being a parakang, but it wasn't easy."

"You remember! If you die and your enemies who you have written their names on paper are not all dead then one of your descendants should do it and continue your pending duty."

Saoda nodded.

"Do you have a replacement and prepare a person of your descent to replace you later?"

Saoda nodded although he looked doubtful making Raina frown in confusion.

"Who's your replacement?"

"He is my grandson, Puang. Her name is Raina" answered Saoda.

Like being struck by lightning after Raina heard him. What did Saoda say? Is this real or is Raina misheard? How is it possible with the establishment of Saoda makes him a candidate for Parakang, if later Saoda is not while the enemies of Saoda are not yet gone.

"Did your granddaughter know everything?"

"No, Puang. My granddaughter does not know all this even she does not know that I am a so-called figure Parakang it."

"But I'm sure that I can avenge myself against all my enemies until I die."

"How many enemies are you?"

"There's one, Puang."

"Who's the guy?"
