The American In Another World

The American In Another World
Chapter 18: The Republic of Louria

August 7, 1639

Jin Hark, Louria

Maus, Patagene, and Yamirei walked through the castle passage. Several groups of workers dispersed, cleaning blood from walls and repairing broken windows. Some groups have American contractors, who carry electrical equipment and strange devices. Others carried long cables, placing them around the castle for unknown purposes.

The three headed to the throne room, where they would meet a group of nobles that the Americans had gathered. As they walked, they discussed the recent events. Maus breaks the silence, “Say, where are General Miminel and General Pandor?”

Patagene replied, “They are still being held by the Americans and Qua Toynians. It seems that their question is longer than ours, because they have more involvement on the battlefield.”

“Sayang. I hope they come back soon; they are good people, ” Yamirei said.

“Many of our people are being tried for something they call 'war crimes' or 'human rights violations'. Many of those involved with the Game have been transferred to the authority of Qua Toynian,” Patagene explained.

Maus tilted his head, remembering something, “Oh, it reminds me, what happened to that creepy guy, what his name is.”.

“Adem?”

"Yes yes."

Patagene shrugged, “I heard she was caught hiding with the local authorities. The master turned around after learning of his identity, and he was immediately sent to Qua Toyne. I'm pretty sure he was tortured by the survivors of the Gym as we spoke.”

“I don't see any loss there,” Yamirei said. "The man is quite unsettling."

“Ya, indeed,” Patagene agrees. On the bright side, as this American said, Admiral Sharkun and the sailors who survived the Great Fleet are currently on their way back here. We still have a hundred thousand sailors and three thousand warships, so we don't have to worry about instability or piracy.”

Maus breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank you heaven! I will resign if I have to manage such a crisis. King Louria barely did the job herself! He forced his duty on me as he spent his days with women, or in his bathroom. Jesus, why is she always naked?”

Patagene and Yamirei laughed. They felt free while slacking off and complaining about their previous king. However, without a designated ruler, they would now have to hold a conference with other nobles and high leaders of Louria. Guided by Americans, the goal of the conference is to produce a Lourian governance plan going forward. When they entered the throne room, they found the room filled with tables and chairs. The top of the table is covered with glasses of wine and foreign food, but looks luxurious.

“I want to know what happened to that Wileman guy,” Yamirei wondered.

“Ah, I'm still here. I'll be going to Parpaldia in a few weeks. Just need to wrap some stuff here, ”said a voice behind them.

They turned around, a little surprised. “Then, I hope you succeed in your endeavors. And let me say, "Yamirei added," I have suspicions that you were a spy from the beginning.

"Oh?" ask Wileman.

“I didn't detect any mana from you. Whereas the average person, even in this part of the world, will have at least a few mana signatures, you have none at all. If you are going to be involved in such an activity, I suggest you resolve that issue. Maybe a little magical talisman could help?”

"That's interesting. Thank you for the advice, Mr. Yamirei. I wish I'd met again sometime, but I'm pretty busy. Maybe in a few months while I am on vacation, I will visit Jin Hark.”

"It would be fun" he replied.

As Wileman went to continue serving food, they complained about how much they would miss her cooking. They found a seat already booked and began to enjoy their meal while sharing gossip about the planned Republic.

August 8, 1639

Washington DC

"So, how's the conference going?" President Lee asked, his hands busy browsing through the tablet.

Steven stood next to his desk, giving his daily report. “Master, the conference went smoothly; we reached an agreement with the local nobility to form a republic, with the nobles holding temporary positions until the first election.

"Optional? How did that work? In such a medieval society, wasn't ninety percent of the population illiterate and uneducated?”

"Yes that's right. We reached an agreement to only allow educated residents and property owners to vote. They must pass a literacy test before being given a ballot.”

Lee rubbed his chin. “It seems that it is rather... unconstitutional.”

“Given the constitutionality of this proposal centuries ago, along with the stability of the region, the governing body deems it necessary to follow this plan. I was reading one of the reports they sent us.”

“Ah,” says Lee, looking for the keyword 'Louria'. “OK, I found it. Yeah, it makes sense. We need to set up a school system before we expand voting rights. We need to make sure the population knows who they choose and why, lest demagogues emerge and persuade the masses. What else do we have?”

“We continue to work with contacts we met during our first visit to Esthirant. We now have a promising relationship with Mu and are planning a diplomatic mission to their homeland in a few weeks.”

Lee nodded, looking up from his tablet. “Hmm, that's great news. And what about Parpaldian?”

Steven sighed and read out his tablet. “Unfortunately, we seem to have encountered obstacles. A week ago, Director Kaios was forced to cancel her trip to the United States. He told us that his superiors and co-workers all doubted the existence of our nation as it is, instead of believing that we are the barbaric power or nation provided by Mu.

"Prepared by You?"

“He explained that Mu was the only mechanical civilization in Elysia, so the upper echelons of Parpaldia's leadership concluded that the Seventh Fleet was 'a squad sent by Mu, the, intended to wage a proxy war against the Parpaldian Empire'. We have given some communication equipment to Kaios and sent her some agents to monitor the situation, but it seems that Parpaldian is quite arrogant. Almost arrogant blindly to the point of ignorance.

"It's a shame" Lee said. “I don't believe the fleet and the air show are not enough. How blind are these people?”

“According to some agencies, fleets and air shows do have the desired effect on residents and traders who want and want to visit the United States. Big company they also hope to engage in trading with us.”

Something pops into Lee's head as he realizes the implications of such a relationship. “So, we have the support of the general public? Let's keep developing it. If one day their arrogant leader proves less than ideal for us, we could just turn their people against them. Introduce high-quality goods to their market, but do not flood it with cheap goods; we do not want local craftsmen to hate us. We want people to slowly love us; maybe some of our sweet delivery will work? Coca Cola, and so on.”

"I'll write it down, Mr. President," Steven said as he took notes on his tablet. “Besides Parpaldia, we also made some progress with Fenn and Gahara, yin and yang countries.”

“Ohh, yes I remember them both. The shape is quite strange,” he said.

“Both countries have approved our scientific survey. Also, interesting new details have emerged with Gahara.”

"Hm?"

“Our ships detect electromagnetic waves from their Wind Dragons.”

“Wind Dragon? Not wyvern?”

“More and more reasons to continue our stealth program, as if this Ravernal Empire threat is not enough.”.

“We have also been told by the Sword King Fenn that Parpaldia, out of nowhere, has decided to attend their military festival. This seemed very unusual for a civilized country, let alone a superpower, and thus many other civilized countries decided to attend as well. This can be a great opportunity to meet new countries.”

Lee raised his eyebrows. "Can be. I wonder what Parpaldia is planning.”.

“I'm not sure, but it would be a bad idea for them to attack Fenn while other civilized countries are watching. I hope they intend to hold a demonstration, the possibility of testing their new weapons against several targets as a show of strength.”

“Haha, two can play in that game,” Lee grinned. “They try to take a page from our book; let's show who the author is.” President Lee plans to boost the Parpaldians by holding a more lavish demonstration.

“Good, Mr. President. Continuing the report on international relations, we also made contact with the Kingdom of Topa, located between the Phillades and Grameus continents, north of Alaska.” He showed Topa a map on his tablet.

"It looks like a land bridge."

“True, Sir. The Topa people claim that the continent of Grameus is filled with demons and monsters, and that they are the guardians of the world.”

"really?"

Steven spun surveillance plane footage over Grameus, flipping his tablet to show President Lee. On the screen, there was an untouched fertile plain, stretching as far as the eye could see. The plane then flew over the forest, where smoke billowed from within. As the plane reaches the site of the fire, a camp is sighted, inhabited by goblins and pig-like orcs. Hovering over the flames were several bodies, which looked very human-like. "For God's sake... What are those people?!" President Lee pointed to the figure that was grilled on the fire.

"We believe so, sir," Steven said solemnly.

“It looks like we found the right place to do weapons testing. What else did Topa say?”

“Currently, they are preparing another defense against the 'Demon Army' and their leader, Nosgorath. They have sent an envoy to ask for help from Parpaldia.”

"So so. Watch the situation.”

“I will pass it on to Ambassador Hendricks and his team. Also, to the west, we have made contact with the Altaras Kingdom. Ambassador Reiker will soon talk to their representatives.”

"alright. Is there anything else?"

“Pak, our facilities in Qua Toyne and Quila are now largely operational. We expect the first shipment of oil from Quila next week, along with rare metals from the mountains separating Qua Toyne and Quila. Seeds for exotic plants somehow grow well in Qua Toyne, as if the soil is suitable for plants in all climates. We are currently teaching the method of crop rotation to the locals. Some of our experts are thinking of introducing fertilizers, but it looks like the soil has built-in fertilizers.

"intriguing. Can we get some samples of their land?”

“Already, last week. It is currently being studied, although not much progress has been made. I doubt we can imitate it.”

"Shamefully. What about the Louria economy? As soon as we built and ran the republic, I wondered what the benefits were for them.

"We might consider their large population, sir."

President Lee is having a moment of awareness. "ah! They could be Chinese! Their land is not as special as Qua Toyne or Quila, but the population is special! Millions of unskilled workers work in factories. It will free more of our people for more high-tech industry.”.

“Good idea, Mr. President. I'll write a note.”

"Is there anything else for Rodenius?"

“We found a suitable launch location for our rocket, but we delayed it because there are several islands in the south, closer to the equator. We are currently sending diplomats and survey teams to a small island country south of Rodenius.”

"It's so good."

“Finally, we detected a strange radio signal coming from Louria. CIA sent Agent Wileman and his men to investigate.”

——

Somewhere in Jin Hark

Under the moonlight of night, several dark-clothed men crept through the shadows. Their target: a small house in one of the residential districts. Seemingly indistinguishable and insignificant, the house is unique in one respect: the presence of radio signals. The CIA agents moved forward, stopping when they heard the door open. They hid behind a row of bushes, completely invisible from the stairs of the house that led to the road. A man walked past them, unaware of the figures mingling in the darkness. One of them started following him.

Wileman followed the man as he walked into a local pub called Ye Dragon's Ale. He followed the man inside, who took his place at the bar and ordered a beer. Wileman grabbed the seat next to her. "I'll get what this guy gets," he said with a southern accent, pointing his thumb to the right.

The man beside Wileman spoke. “Accent interesting; you are definitely one of those new Americans.”

“I'm sure, man. Name's Wileman.”

“You can call me Vin.”

“Well, Vin. I hope the engine noise doesn't bother you too much. We're working hard to build this place to American standards, you know.

"I haven't noticed it yet."

“I guess you're local? Or maybe a traveling merchant?”

“Traders, actually. I am from Riem, Kingdom in the Third Civilization Region.”

“Interesting... what are you trading?”

“Ah, we trade some of our technology in exchange for resources, similar to the way Parpaldia runs its business.”

Two beers were placed in front of Wileman and Vin, and they gulped them down. “So,” says Wileman. "Are you all selling radios or something?"

Vin began to show signs of nervousness, such as heart palpitations and erratic breathing. Wileman, a trained agent, feels success. “T-no, radio? What'sthat?" Vin was trying to pretend he didn't know.

“Beating me,” Wileman shrugs. "Say, you think this beer tastes funny?"

"W-what?" Vin felt his vision turn black. “You—” Vin passed out and was captured by Wileman.

“Oh, buddy. I think you should lay off the drinks there. Come on, I'll take you home.”
