Chapter 58
A Request
Roy drove his car as soon as the phone call closed.
I did not dare to ask for fear of disturbing his concentration who was driving in a state of panic. Even though Roy didn't tell me what he was talking about with Mas Fandi, I'm sure something happened to my co-worker who became my friend.
I began to feel anxious and pray that nothing would happen to Mbak Mira and Mas Fandi.
"You don't worry..." Said Roy who glanced at me.
He himself looked anxious but tried to calm himself. I'm getting scared of it, so imagine a no-no.
In front of the road looks a crowd of vehicles that run slowly and some even stop. I don't know why my heart is pounding with my fingertips that are starting to feel cold.
I began to panic when I saw the car I knew pulled over carelessly and looked like car body fragments scattered on the floor of the road. My heart seemed to fall on the spot when I saw Mas Fandi's panicked face and cried with his blood-splitting temple.
"Astagfirullah.., innalillah..." I was sad and surprised at once.
"Keep your heart." Roy said in a sad tone that immediately grasped my cold hand as soon as I knew I was panicking and scared.
"Keep your heart." Roy came back before we got out of the car.
I nodded even though my eyes were already glazed and dripping without asking.
"Oh Allah, Mas Fandi..."
My voice began to tremble at the sight I had just imagined turned out to be actually happening. And my steps immediately stopped with both hands shutting my mouth seeing Mbak Mira still trapped in a shaggy car.
My legs suddenly went limp, and I staggered backwards. I almost fell if Roy didn't catch me immediately.
"Go back to my car and calm down." Roy said as he rubbed my back, giving strength to my heart to accept the reality.
Roy quickly helped the people who were trying to get Mbak Mira out of the car. I could only look behind Roy's windshield with my mouth unceasingly praying for the safety of Mira and the baby in her stomach.
The fatal accident that I only saw on television news, or social media is now very clearly visible in my two eyes. The accident that hit my friends who almost made me faint in that place as well.
Ambulance cars along with Police cars came and immediately secured the location that began to cause congestion.
Many people stop to help but some make it to the openings of others for a content that makes money.
Some mobile phones appear to be pointing forward and up held by the owner. Whether it is to share information or add to the collection of content, which is clear their existence is quite disturbing because of the jostling to make the scope of people and officers who help become not free to move.
"BAAAMM!"
The sound of iron falling hit the road.
With the efforts of many people, Mas Fandi's car managed to pull back from the crush of the container that fell and hit the front of the car to the glass.
"Oh my God.., Mommy Mira!"
I almost screamed to see Mira's bloodied lunglai body cut into the Ambulance.
Mas Fandi entered the Ambulance, while Roy returned to his car and soon followed the Ambulance car that had begun to go far ahead.
I cried without a voice, my heart was so painful and bitter considering that the friend I had considered Brother himself was fighting against death.
My body trembled in tears as it was unable to withstand the heart-wrenching sadness. I can still endure being despised, or bullied and persecuted, but I am not strong enough to lose those I love.
"Look, I'm here." Said Roy while gently rubbing my head.
I know her heart must be sad just like what I feel. But his face trying to stay calm can not make my heart immediately calm because of the condition of Mbak Mira who still has not received help.
No one knows when it will happen. No one wants to get lost if only they can choose. But the destiny determined by the Almighty must be lived.
"Triiiing...! Trioing!"
"Who?" I asked when Roy still hasn't picked up the call.
"Fandi, he's video calling."
I also became confused. Wasn't Mas Fandi in the ambulance with Mira? Why did he make a video call?
"I'll pick up the phone first." Said Roy.
I nodded.
Roy pulled his car over on the side of the road and picked up the video call.
"Give me your phone to Indah, my wife wants to talk to her."
Without further ado and forgetting to say hello, Mas Fandi said that Mira wanted to talk to me.
Roy gave me his phone to hold. I picked it up and positioned the phone in the middle so Roy could see it too.
There on the screen, Mas Fandi's face was flooded with tears while gently rubbing the head of Mbak Mira's wife who was partly wet with blood.
I stiffened to look directly at Mira in such conditions. My chest rumbled with pain and saw the people I loved getting hurt in front of my eyes.
"I.. Indaad..."
Mira's slow voice barely sounded to me as soon as she saw my face on the video screen.
The voice that barely came out and forced myself to speak to me made me feel full, so that my heart was slashed to see his struggle with pain that I could not necessarily endure.
"I'm Ma'am..." I answered and wiped away the trail of tears that had condensed my vision to Mother Mira.
"A. I want k. ka. mu ber. promise one thing.., ber.sama Maaas.. Fandi."
Deg, man,
I don't know what Mira wants to say makes me tense and pounding. Is this a sign of a final request? No, Mira should be optimistic to be helped and healthy again.
"Darling...."
Mas Fandi seemed powerless to hold back his tears until his tears melted on his cheeks even without a sound.
"De. tell me.. Mas. Whatever yes. ng ter. so dive. matan babyi. And I.. Beautiful, marry.deng..ngan Mas Fanndii..."
Deg, man,
I'm speechless. My tears immediately stopped for a moment to hear the words of Mbak Mira who still sounded clear despite stammering. My tongue feels numb. Even my blood felt like it was getting an electric shock until I felt like I was having a heart sport.
"Darling, don't be like that." Mas Fandi said softly to his wife.
I'm sure Mas Fandi certainly did not expect Mbak Mira would say so, but he also could not insist because of Mbak Mira's condition is very concerned.
Then what should I do? How can I refuse the wish of a woman who might be his last wish?
There's no way I'm married to a best friend's husband who I consider my own brother. There's no way I'm getting married without a little love in my heart.
I glanced at Roy, who knew the man had a solution. But the man dropped his head on the round handlebar by firmly gripping the steering wheel of his car. It seems Roy can't get in the way even though he wants to.
"I. beg Indaaah..."
Again Mbak Mira asked with a heart-wrenching voice groan. My heart that was powerless to see such pain was truly in a dilemma.
God, what do I answer?
