Me and Andra were already busy with our duties, even though in question marks what was going to happen as Andra said while in the elevator. While Andra herself also did not know what would happen, she just felt it.
Deg
My heart beats faster when I enter my task area. The three beds were filled with patients, Ningrum in bed seven as well as the other two beds. I'm watching for medical devices attached to the patient's body. Every now and then I stare towards Ningrum, the woman is silent in unconsciousness.
“Amel,” call sister Dian who is already standing next to Ningrum.
I refused and went to him, for he was standing here on a nine-bed.
“Ningrum is likely to be taken home his family, again in consultation with doctor.”
“Yeah?”
“Hm, it's like a cost issue. It's been almost three months he's been in a coma.”
I looked at Ningrum, only God can help resuscitate the woman. I don't know why his spirit came to see me last night, which I obviously didn't want to get involved with any occult business.
“You were with Andra ya?”
“Iya Mbak.”
“He has a problem or what the hell. Looks bete, but the focus is still okay,” exclaimed sister Dian.
I said I didn't know, because I didn't know what was going on with Andra. The vision problem about the incident in the Cambodian ward, may make the man restless and there is no way this I told Sister Dian.
By late afternoon, I was panicking. The patient in the critical nine-bed, connected device reads. My doctor and sister Dian are busy providing assistance according to the procedure. At first glance I saw Andra was standing looking at us but did nothing.
Not long after, the patient died. After the doctor said the time of death, Sister Dian met the family of my patients and took care of the corpse by removing all the tools and covering with a blanket.
Slowly I cover from the legs and continue up to the chest and when it will cover the face, suddenly the two eyes of the corpse glared at me even with a shocked screech. The doctor who wrote something down in the patient's medical records document was not far from where I was approaching.
“Why you?”
I made sure the corpse's face was closed again.
“Oh, no pa-pa.”
“Hm, if you immediately contact the morgue to be taken immediately.”
“Good doc.”
Right now I'm in the toilet in the ward, there are only two cubicles and one sink. While washing her hands, Andra was already behind me.
“Astagfirullah. What is ngagetin aja.”
“Lo be careful yes, I think I will be in the ICU until night.”
“Andra, what will it actually be?”
“No idea, maybe it's just a feeling I doang,” said the man still standing behind me staring at the mirror tidying his hair. “Later tonight if it's done, wait for me.”
“Ndra, patient in bed nine died.”
“Udah fate, not because of his bed,” Andra said then patted me on the shoulder and left.
The Cambodian ward is getting busier, with the arrival of three new patients with unconscious conditions and critical patients in the ICU. Maybe this is what Andra means he will be busy, we received some patients salh the other placed again in bed nine. Every now and then I see a great deal it is definitely not human, but I ignore it. Try to be strong as Andra's advice.
Srek.
I flinch, stay focused on noting the condition of the patients I handle because soon change shifts.
Srek.
“Mbak.”
Deg.
It can't be a peer, because no one calls me Mbak but directly the name. Except for Sister Dian, she's a senior and we call her Ma'am. Who calls me as Ma'am.
My position is against the three beds of my work area. Could Ningrum? I slowly turned towards the seven-bed where the woman was lying. Sure enough, there was a figure of Ningrum standing beside his body that was still closed. The figure was staring at me.
I tried to stay calm even though my whole body was shaking. My lips quiver with prayer. Wait, Ningrum didn't scare me or say what he wanted. Ningrum's hand pointed in the other direction. I slowly turned to the direction Ningrum was pointing.
“Astagfirullah,” I said seeing a figure standing next to bed nine. The patient had just entered not long ago, was unconscious and heard a strong breath like a claustrophobic.
Not to lose the sense of surprise to see a large and creepy tall figure, I was again made astonished because one of the hands of the figure was holding the neck of the patient. Could that be what makes breathing difficult?"
“Go,” I said softly at the creature that still gripped the patient's neck in bed nine.
However, the creature did not shift one bit. The scripture I chanted to drive away the supernatural only made him growl and turn towards me. The sharp gaze that looked at me did not stop his hand that was still clutching the patient's neck.
The sound of a medical device indicating that the patient's heartbeat began to decline, made me aghast and shouted closer. Doctor and Sister Dian also take care of patients who have shown signs of death. We were still trying to help and the creature had already let go of his hand and even started to move away.
“Amel, enough,” said the doctor because I kept saying CPR and heart shock procedures. “We've tried and done our best.”
“But ...”
My breath gasped with both hands tremor hearing the doctor pronounce the time of death. My body's response says that the patient died not because of the time, but because of the creature.
“Amel, control yourself. Ward is busy, take care of this patient and immediately contact the morgue.”
I was silent, not realizing Andra had done what I had to do.
“Go to the sink and wash your face, be aware lo,” whispered Andra.
I'm still flinching.
“Amel, want to walk alone or ..”
I turned towards the sink. My steps stopped to see the creature was walking towards the door and beside it there was the spirit of the patient. The creature forced the spirit of a recently deceased patient.
It's logical I can't digest what I just saw. Could it be that the creature was a life-extracting angel or a life-extracting ghost. I don't know. This ward is indeed creepy for me who can see ‘they’. There's actually a secret to what's in this ward.
