Cambodian Ward

Cambodian Ward
Chapter 5 ~ Ningrum (2)

I was already in the front canteen, not far from the hospital gate waiting for Andra's arrival. To ask a lot of things about the Cambodian ward. At least I can compare Marni's story with the testimony of the person who served directly at the place.

Either Andra will assume me how, even though we just met and I agree to his invitation to meet in the cafeteria. The look in my eyes could not be separated from Andra who had just come and headed to the drink counter and ordered and approached the table where I was sitting.

“You ask what?” tanyakanya.

“How about you who told me first about ward ...”

“Next, not enough time.”

I just clucked at Andra's rejection, she herself who invited me to talk but refused to tell a story.

“I'm new to duty, about four months. Some say frangipani wards are creepy, there are even some myths as well. I need to know the truth of that story.”

“If you really want what? If you are wrong what will you do?”

“Yes nothing, at least I can be more careful.”

“Mitos what makes you curious? A haunted bed or a comatose patient figure? Or ngesot sister?” cecar Andra then chuckled.

“So really that story?”

“No, there may be something similar but in exaggeration. His name is also a chain message, always be more.”

I leaned closer to the table.

“You ever had a creepy incident there?” tanyaku.

Andra had not replied because her order of sweet iced tea came. After sipping some, he looked back at me.

“Mel, you will know for yourself how the Cambodian ward because I know you have an inner eye and can see those who are invisible,” said Andra Lirih.

Hahh, how did Andra know?

***

Two days ago on the morning shift, nothing strange happened. Strange even Andra's attitude that often mocked to be careful during the night shift even though saying that while laughing. It's fair that Andra knew I could see those who weren't seen, it turns out that she had a sixth sense.

Today I'm still one more shift with Andra. At two o'clock in the afternoon we were ready for duty and it would end at ten in the evening. I listened to Sister Dian's instructions and recently a patient died and was just taken down to the morgue.

We pray that today's task will be smooth and the patient's condition will improve, tucked into my prayer so that there will be no interaction from invisible beings.

“Amel, bed nine clear yes.”

I rushed to condition the nine-bed and had a chance to turn to Ningrum who was still closed. I took off the gloves, then went over to Ningrum's bed. I looked at Ningrum's face while bringing my face closer and ….

Plucci

“Aaa,” my shout.

“Why the hell?” ask Andra.

“Dia ... opened his eyes,” I told Andra who immediately checked Ningrum's condition, checked vital tools and made sure the medical equipment installed was functioning properly.

“Surely she opens her eyes?”

I nodded then shook my head slowly, of course I doubt whether what I saw was true or just a feeling. The sound of a medical machine from the ICU room, I and Andra called Sister Dian to immediately enter the room to help the doctor provide assistance according to the procedure.

Andra pointed at the pacemaker, I rushed to pick up and apply the gel and gave it to the doctor who tried to keep the patient alive. Twice using a pacemaker, but the patient's heartbeat did not return. The doctor finally mentioned the time of death.

“Andra, call his family,” said the doctor.

The equipment and cables attached to the patient's body I removed after disabling the machine so as not to sound, then conditioned the body to be carried.

“Inna lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji'uun,” I said slowly and pulled the blanket over the face of the corpse. She was a girl and looked so young, I even looked at her face

Today was uncomfortable, just a few hours on duty there were three patients who died. Indeed all three are in a critical state, there is still a feeling of sadness in the heart.

Me and the others took turns to rest, I happened to go to Maghrib. After performing the worship, I had time to eat provisions and drink coffee to eliminate drowsiness. My job is still a few hours away, of course it takes energy to get through it.

Ting

The elevator door opened, I stepped out of the elevator and walked towards the ward door. My hand was on the sensor to open the door but I stopped pressing it because I heard a crying sound. Although slow and soft but still sound clear.

I looked left and right, there was no one there. Even the patient's waiting family was only two people, it seemed to be out to buy food or clean up. I made sure the sound I heard was coming from the female toilet.

“Halo,” I said when I was in front of the toilet.

There was no answer, but still the sound of crying was even clearer. I opened the toilet door, at the end of the room there was someone facing the wall crying while covering his face with both hands.

“Mbak, why cry?” I asked who was already in the toilet but did not dare to approach.

The woman did not answer, still with her cries.

"Sir, is there a family in front? Let me call," I said.

Again the figure did not answer.

"Mr ...."

"Why should I?"

"meaning?" I asked after hearing the woman speak.

"Why should I die."

The woman stopped her crying and slowly looked back. I realized that the figure in front of me was very similar to the dead body in the ICU room.

"I don't want to die yet" said the figure.
