ACT 2: Chapter 19 - Promises in the Past
"alright. We have arrived!" I plopped down on the grass, under a shady tree.
Tiredness ran through my body when I remembered what had happened.
I defeated a dragon at this age and level. I was scared when I thought about that. It's all because of magic.
Although I know that this is because I have a 3-fold increase, but in the eyes of others, I am only a 6-year-old boy!
How powerful is this magic. Come to think of it, I couldn't have done that without magic.
"More?" A small voice called out to me from the darkness. I didn't think about it too much.
I obviously lost in terms of the power of the dragon, if I get hit just once, I die. But what made me win from him?
("Yes. It was just magic that could reverse everything.")
("Magic power can make me turn the facts around.")
("Could make something impossible possible.")
("In conclusion, magic is what underlies all events in this world.")
"What's up, Ren?" Someone called me back. I feel like he's bothering me a little.
("If magic is something that underlies the whole world, something that reverses everything, makes something impossible possible, then what is my meaning? What is my meaning without magic?")
I closed my eyes with my right hand, which was quickly pulled again by someone.
"Rin?! What is?! Be aware!" It was the same voice as before.
("I. It has no meaning if it has no magic. Meaning, a human who has no magic in this world has no meaning? Is that what humans mean to this world?") I changed my left hand to close my eyes.
Something inside me started to rise. I don't know what it is, but it feels like burning my body.
("Then I am not.) My daydreams stopped.
"Wake, Ren! It's not funny!" My face was a little hot on my cheeks, but there was a strange woman in front of me.
His face was a little worried, and there was also a tear in the corner of his eyes.
"Eh? Wh why? This is?" I whispered slowly, looking to the right and left. I was in a daze, like a temporary loss of my memory.
"Rin! I suppose. I thought something happened to you! Huuumu! Don't play like that again! I'm really worried!" Someone was crying and hugging me tightly.
The wind blew slowly, again reminding me.
("Really. She's Syila.") I regained my senses when I saw Shila's short hair, from the wind that was blowing again like I was shouting a fragment of my memory.
I was happy, seeing him watching me. I'm happy too, when he worries about me.
It's just that I remember what I thought was "a dream.
"I'm nothing without magic." I finally said it slowly.
I don't want to lose someone who worries about me. But I don't want them to regret it either. I better tell Syila that I'm only human.
"Hey, Syila." I stroked her hair, asked her to get up.
"You are a good man. Besides, you are also very beautiful. But, I have something to say." I'm trying to do this is not too painful, at least for me.
Syila just lowered her head, then sat facing me with her face still hidden.
"You know, you're arguably amazing. And I want you to know this now. I don't want you to regret it either." I let out a breath.
"I'm just a human being. Therefore, it is better not to get involved with me anymore. You can tell Uncle Childe that we refused this engagement. I will also help you to break my relationship with me. Therefore, it's more ba..."
"No!" He hit my chest with both hands.
"Me, I'm fine with all this. I knew from the beginning that you are human. I've never met you, Ren. But I feel like I've been with you. I feel," she stopped.
"I feel like my destiny is with you. Besides, I also feel comfortable with you, feeling good when I'm with you. I know it's weird, because we just met but, but!" He brought his face closer to mine.
"I like you, Ren!" He screamed, making me realize. All this time, I was just chasing strength. I don't even know how terrifying this magical world is.
But I forgot something obvious in front of my eyes. I forgot my promise in the past, to have love in my heart.
Should I feel the pain of failing in meeting people's expectations once again? Should I betray their trust?
"Oy oy's. We're 6 years old, you know! Are you sure it'll last for the next few years?" I pushed my head back a little, made my body tilt because I couldn't move my legs.
"Yes! I-I'm sure it won't go away! If I'm with you, it'll get bigger, maybe." He said while closing his mouth, and putting on a face like thinking.
I just smiled hearing that. That was the thing I heard when I got to this world. I want to hear the voice of the person who accepts me for who I am, without looking down on me.
The first person to give it was my father, my mother, my brother and sister, in other words, my family. And the second person now is Syila.
"Thank you! Thank you!" I held her cheek, as tears flowed by my eyes. He who sees this becomes misbehaved, as if he does not know what to do.
I'm out of character. It seems like time to turn the situation around.
"Ah, okay. You got to!" I tried to laugh in a half-beegetar voice.
"He? Whatchu mean?" He tilted his head.
"Hehe. It was just a pura. You finally said it the first time, huh? I'm not the one who said it! You said you liked me, right? Did you forget?" I tried to tease him.
There was a pause of a few moments, before he exploded and turned like a tomato, jumping backwards while holding both of his cheeks.
It seems like he will die from embarrassment. I can only laugh seeing this.
"It looks like you remember, huh?" I started greeting him. Holding his shoulder.
"Yeah! Go you Ren! You're evil! You framed me! Nahattt! He kept shouting as he flicked his hand, telling me to leave.
"Aahaha! You really remember that, right?" I sat back, facing up. Seeing the fallen leaves being blown by the wind.
"You're evil, Ren! You cheated!" Syila was still shouting while covering her face. Well, this is a good sight, so I won't be changing it temporarily. But, this is the scene I want to protect.
At last. I found out what I trained my magic for. What is my power needed for. At least, I've kept one of my promises in my lifetime.
"Look at me now, Shino. I've learned it. A little." I smiled at the sky.
