Asti Remembers the Past
When Asti first set foot in the courtyard of the campus where he now teaches, doubt and anxiety still melumuri all his feelings because he had just departed just capitalized with a large bag of determination and desire alone.
Asti stood in front of the University with a bag hanging on his left arm. Asti stared at the large building in front of him while wondering with himself. Will he be able to become a good lecturer at the University in Jakarta?
The university where he first taught this is not an ordinary University, but one of several favorite Universities in Jakarta. A gathering place for children of businessmen and children of the upper class in Jakarta. In fact, it is not only the choice of high school students in the Jakarta environment, but as the University of choice for prospective students from various provinces in Indonesia. So many high school students from various regions in Indonesia who aspire specifically to come to Jakarta to study at this University.
Can Asti become a lecturer who will be liked and appreciated by his students? Will he be teaching the students to listen to him speak? Especially if you remember his face like he never got old. They will assume Asti is a young lecturer who has not had much experience.
Because there are not many people who are fooled by the face of this baby face. Like her coworkers, many of them thought Asti was still a teenage girl. Though not up to two more years, his age will even be thirty years, already want a head of three.
But fortunately on the other side of his bath, there is still a lump of challenge that moves his steps to walk into the large and tall building in front of him. However, he must be able to show and prove that his decision to resign from the previous job was not wrong.
At least people who know the choice at this time, prefer to work and serve as a lecturer do not compare or judge from the side of his income. Because if it is seen in terms of income, anyone will surely recognize it as a moron, because of the small salary of lecturers.
But if anyone said so, Asti would not blame them. Because people who call her a stupid girl, have resigned from the company that pays her with a high salary that is true. Because a lot of people want to be in his position and want to have a salary like he got.
How many scholars are currently unemployed because of the difficulty of finding and getting a suitable job between their education and their income or salary. Asti should be a lucky person because he is paid a high salary. So with his current choice to become a lecturer! Maybe the moron will grow to be a quadratic moron.
But it all comes back to yourself, whatever the hell people want to say! Because our lives are our own choices, we are not other people. This choice that Asti has taken is a choice that he took with awareness and confidence. Asti has submitted a letter of application to resign from his previous job. Even though his parents somehow shook their heads because of his choice.
Even when he first admitted that he was resigning to his Father and Mother, Dad became enraged and looked devastated. Asti recalled the time it happened, the situation and conditions that suddenly turned into heat.
“Do you realize the consequences of your actions and choices?!" the first sentence that came out of his father's mouth, when Asti delivered his resignation.
''Aware what?'' The father who had just retired for several months replied firmly Asti's statement. When he found out his son resigned from the company that had guaranteed for his future. According to the Father being unemployed at a time when physically and mentally still healthy is very unpleasant. And now her daughter who had worked a great salary was just nice to come home with the news that she was out of her job.
“Of course aware Dad. I am also aware that I will not necessarily get a job as good as this again later. I realized that I had wasted a fortune from God. And also realize that there is a possibility for some time maybe I will be unemployed!" Asti answered his father in a slow tone so that his father was calmer.
“Nah, you know that!'' His father pressed his tone again.
Asti did not answer, he just kept silent while looking at his Mother who was sitting on the sofa staring at her Husband and Son in the living room of their house. Mother who has been a listener since then without saying one or two words. A situation that is already common occurs when a child makes a mistake and after that in the trial by his Father. Asti who was still staring at her mother as if to signal a request for help, to help her out of the trial period.
“Asti Your father spoke like that for worrying about your future!'' her Mother said in a voice that calmed the court situation between her Husband and Son. “You'll also know that Dad is retired. I certainly can't spoil you like I used to. So now you alone must find income for your needs!'' said Mother again.
Asti is indeed from a very spoiled little with her Dad. Whatever Asti wants Dad must work on it, because Asti is the only child of this married couple. But in this situation his father was really surprised to hear the resignation that had been done by his Son.
The hope of the Father is that Asti can be independent for now and in the future, because he has worked and earned enough fixed income for his personal needs later. There was a sense of calm in the heart of the Father. With the decision that Asti has taken without talking about it first with them makes the Father really disappointed.
Asti who knew very well that what his Father and Mother said was true, he took a slightly longer breath.
"Mother and Father always put an emphasis on indulgence in material things!'' sahut later.
“Trust me... It is all unimportant, I am now an adult! There are many other things that are more valuable. I promise to take responsibility for my own life. Mom and Dad are calm, don't worry. Just pray that I get another job that is not less good!” Asti tried to convince Father and Mother who were worried about the decision he had taken.
