chapter 1.

What the hell is that bastard?"

A question Madina who made her mother named Bu Puspa speechless stopped all activities,

Madina looked at her silent mother with a knife cutting vegetables in the kitchen.

"Mother why shut up, bastard what is Ma'am?"

The question he kept on sending to his mother because he wanted to know what he meant by the illegitimate child he always heard from all his friends and neighbors to Madina.

For a 5-year-old child of Madina's age, of course, a word she doesn't understand, which is why curiosity about what a bastard means always rushes through her mind.

Bu Puspa was seen holding back his tears that were about to drip.

"Who calls you an illegitimate child?"

Bu Puspa asked who the person who had called him an illegitimate child was.

Madina could not name one by one the people who had called her an illegitimate child, which was evidently some of her friends who ridiculed and insulted her with such a harsh name.

Of course, Bu Puspa was also unusual again with that insult to him from a long time ago.

But until now when Madina asked him that, he only asked back who called Madina an illegitimate child without explaining what it meant.

Bu Puspa just always said that in this world there is no such thing as an illegitimate child.

All children born into the world are born in a state of holiness, there is no such thing as an illegitimate child.

Bu Puspa just always told him not to care about everyone who insulted him as the bastard child.

Madina always followed her message.

But to this day, it feels like Madina's patience as a child who still does not know anything can not he bear anymore.

When a friend asked about Madina's father.

"Who is your father and where?"

Haikal asked one of Kindergarten's school friends at that time, Madina innocently replied that her father was her mother, Puspa's mother's name.

The corner of their lips lifted, and laughter all filled the classroom as if scoffing at fatherless Madina.

"Hahahaha Madina has no father, kasian deh "

Haikal continued insulting him then other friends also mocked and called Madina an illegitimate child.

"Barraggar.

Bastard son.

Madina doesn't have a father, an illegitimate son"

The word sounded like a melodious song for them to insult Madina until she was sad and crying.

I don't know who and where the name of the illegitimate child began and was thrown so that all his friends could say that to Madina.

The teacher who saw everything immediately broke up and dispersed all the friends who insulted Madina.

Finally the teacher tried to calm Madina who was crying.

"You don't cry Madina, you're a strong boy, you smile we're back in class"

Said Ms. Maya, the school teacher who has always been kind to her.

...

"Please explain ma'am, why do they call me an illegitimate child?"

Madina asked her mother again with a bit of force.

"What is an illegitimate child, ma'am.what?"

Madina kept asking until it made her mother angry and cry for the first time.

"Silent you Madina, that's enough, mother doesn't want you to ask again like this, so sleep, go to your room"

Bu Puspa replied in a high tone and told Madina to go to sleep immediately.

For the first time Madina answered all her mother's orders, and it made Bu Puspa again scold her.

"Madina, how insolent are you, how dare you deny mother's orders?dare you?"

It felt like Madina was afraid to see her mother's gaze which looked very angry at Madina for not following her.

Madina immediately ran to the room crying, so she fell asleep in tears that were still wetting her cheeks.

When Madina was closed, she felt very bad if her mother came and stroked her hair, Bu Puspa said if she loved Madina very much, Bu Puspa apologized for saying rude and scolding Madina until she cried.

"I'm sorry mommy, mom loves you so much, mom doesn't want you to be sad, forgive mommy dear"

Bu Puspa continued to caress Madina's hair and made her heart calm again with sholawat chants that Bu Puspa always sang before Madina slept.

A habit that his mother never forgot even though Madina is now asleep in anger, but Bu Puspa still does his habit by accompanying her to sleep with her sholawat.

***

Now Madina and Bu Puspa live together in a remote village in Tasikmalaya,

They had moved for several years, but every time they moved to settle in a village, always got into trouble, this is the umpteenth time they moved house.

And the problem is always the same, too,

The citizens always expelled them by force because they knew that Bu Puspa raised an illegitimate child, Madina.

"Essir Puspa from here, we don't want any stains on this village"

The expulsion that took place in Bandung before they moved to Tasikmalaya is so very much Madina remembers.

At that time Madina was still too small, so she did not understand what was happening.

A group of residents came to Bu Puspa's house with a very loud cry, he said,

"Essir Puspa"

The residents screamed in unison sounded so sinister in his heart.

Bu Puspa who was currently performing the epic after the prayer was immediately awakened by still wearing his face.

Bu Puspa looked outwards and began to panic,

"What is this?"

Bu Puspa told Madina to stay in the room, but she complied with all her mother's requests to remain silent in the room.

Mother also went out to meet the citizens who were rampaging to expel them.

"What are these mothers ?"

Bu Puspa tried to ask why they were so violent.

"Don't you pretend that you and your son are a stain in this village, get out of here, we don't want any black stain in this village"

Replied one of the residents to Bu Puspa, and all so hurt his heart.

Bu Puspa asked in his heart, why did they find out if Madina was an illegitimate child, where did they know, even though Bu Puspa had never met anyone who knew all his secrets after he left his parents' house in Sumedang, and that's also because of the eviction of citizens.

And at the same time both parents of Bu Puspa came to visit Madina and Bu Puspa, they saw Bu Puspa almost attacked with a large enough stone throw and would be fatal if it hit the head of Bu Puspa.

"Stop stop,"

Grandpa tried to stop the anger of the citizens who almost hurt Bu Puspa.

"I beg you to calm the mothers of the fathers, Puspa will leave here, I beg you to calm down"

Unexpectedly, Grandpa's reply so very much made Bu Puspa's heart hurt, why would grandfather agree if he would leave their village, and then he would leave, why is it so easy that grandfather succumbed to the rampage of the citizens without telling the truth if Madina was not an illegitimate child.

Grandpa pulled Puspa into the house, Grandma also closed the door and locked it.

But the action did not and Merta made the crowd of residents who wanted to expel Madina and Bu Puspa just disperse.

"Father why say it like that, Puspa will not leave here sir"

Resolute Bu Puspa to grandfather that he will not go anywhere even though the residents expelled him.

"You didn't see clearly, son, they almost hurt you, you could've gone even if you didn't agree to their request, realize son, come back home and leave the bastard"

The grandfather's answer again hurt Bu Puspa's heart.

Her tears trickled every time someone called Madina an illegitimate child.

"Enough sir, Puspa no longer wants to hear all that, Madina son of Puspa, he is not an illegitimate child"

Bu Puspa replied in disappointment to his father who still considers Madina as an illegitimate child, although he already knew the truth.

Grandma came to Madina's room and hugged Madina who looked very frightened.
